    The challenge I have with this is the time it takes- we play 4 balls almost always at WSGC and if you go through this process everyone says "YOU'RE SLOW!". If you play 2 balls and singles its just fine. I often skip the reading part altogether coz everyone is so concerned with pace of play, especially if you're in a group where other players have hit provisionals and searched in the trees. Not sure there is a fix for that !

      I know what you mean and I have felt the pressure to rush and ditch the process before but it never works out well 🤣. When I’ve practiced this routine it can be quick. Obviously I was taking my time here with Jamie there to help, so it would be quicker when I’m playing on the course.

      I'd say I'm twice as quick reading with AimPoint as others are using 'standard' green reading. But it does help to dial things in on the putting green before the round, and that's when I appear slower than everyone else who just putt 3 balls to a random hole.

    • @whaleshark2625
      @whaleshark2625 Місяць тому +1

      Just do all of your routine while others are getting ready to putt etc. No need to watch them putting. Hitting fewer putts will always be faster in the long run.

    Oh, now this I'm REALLY interested in Jess...
    When AimPoint first came 'in vogue' I went to see a coach (who is now a very well known UA-camr) talked through his system and then the price...£100 per lesson 😳 I'm a Tyke, we make Scots look generous, he must have been crazy 🤪 NO WAY was I going to pay that. I carried on just putting and reading lines with my eyes lol
    I'll enjoy this one 👍👍👍

    I don’t use AimPoint myself as I can barely trust my feet to get me around the course, but I found what Jamie was saying about using a line on the ball absolutely fascinating.

    Great stuff Jess. I generally only use the line if I believe a putt is straight, so mainly on short putts. For me it’s easier to line up and trust that it’s pointing in the right direction.

    Jess, Some time ago I watched YT Mark Crossfield trying to put watching the hole, not the ball.
    I started doing this 12 months ago and my distance control improved massively. On a 30 or 40 footer, I’m almost always with 2 or 3ft.
    The principle is so simple, when you throw a ball to someone 30ft away, you look at the person (or target), not your hand holding the ball. Your brain calculates very accurately how much to swing your arm to provide the required velocity.
    You don’t need to worry about the face striking the ball if you’ve set up/lined up properly, nothing is going to change there, so why watch it so intently ? Being focussed on the target gives you much better distance perception.
    However, to begin with, you will feel a bit insecure trying this and it’s easy to give up. You need to practice and stick with it for a couple of weeks.
    Combined with your Aimpoint skills, you’ll not regret trying the above method.
    I dare you….give it a go ! 😀

      Thank you for watching, Caroline! I’m ditching the line for sure. That was a key takeaway for me - the distance control of aiming for a foot behind the hole to save those short ones.

    Aim point works great for me and I totally trust it. Now I just practice hitting straight putts with a pelts putting aid and have a system of lag putting. Good putting makes a mediocre round great and a bad round mediocre.

    I like to walk to the hole, find the straight put. That tells me the break. Then stand behind the ball have a Quick Look. And take my shot. I think this takes roughly the same time as aim point. People who say it takes to long must just walk to there ball and take there shot. If that works for them that’s ok.

    You'll want to buy a digital spirit level now so that you can occasionally recalibrate your slope perception.

      @@jessratcliffegolf(Now I've watched the video!) I've seen him using the 10-20-30 measuring drill previously. Do you have the Tour Tempo app? Might help get consistent timing and therefore better distance control.
      Ref line on the ball, I've come to the conclusion that it only helps me when my aiming point is inside the hole so for short putts; once it is outside the hole I find it takes too long to get it pointed correctly.

    • @merkyr354
      @merkyr354 Місяць тому

      Just to add, if you have (or can borrow) a copy of Mark Brodie's Every Shot Counts, have a look at Table 7.1 on page 133 that shows the affect on slope on a putt - it is huge. (Unfortunately it is in degrees not percentage.) For example a 20 foot putt on a 2 degree (approx 3.5%) downhill slope on a Stimp 13 green needs to be hit the equivalent of an 8 (yes eight!) foot flat putt.

    Personally i think aim point should be banned.... It slows the game down so much. Especially when player's use it from inside 2 feet. Also if a lot of people are using it by the end of the round the space around the green looks horrible with all the spkike marks.xd

      @@jessratcliffegolf you must be the only one that is fast with it. because watching the lpga and pga tour a lot most of them are horrible slow at it. than you have over half the field doing it from within 10 feet , with all those spike marks made sure makes it hard to putt?
