    They just had to give it glowing red eyes, didn't they.

      @MikeTrieu 8 років тому +4

      Yeah, I really don't know what functional use they'd have for those LEDs. It seems like it's just there for aesthetics, as is this choice of music for the video and the complete lack of explanation of what they want this robot to achieve. Pure marketing fluff piece.

      +Mike Trieu (MegasChara) It's for researching the ocean floor instead of having expensive submarines n stuff

      +Eric Lucas because red LEDs are much more standout against blue water background.

    • @tripkebab

      My guess is its because red light is less disruptive to life accustomed to dark environments and assuming there is a camera mounted on the front they need to illuminate whatever they may be looking at. Remeber this could be used at great depth where it gets pretty dark. I doubt infared night vision works underwater due to reflections on all the particals floating round in the water.

    I like how they are starting to give character to their builds. Faces etc. It makes people connect faster.

    It will be interesting to see what this device can be used for when it can become fully untethered.

      +TheChristmasCreeper The idea is that they'll develop these robots to live on the seafloor,
      cleaning and keeping check on undersea equipment and performing simple
      tasks like tightening loose valves with their clamp-like mouths.

      It won’t ever become untethered if it was built to go down to places like oil rigs the designers would know radio/rc waves even at low frequency could not penetrate that deep
