UPDATE: I have been blocked from Dan C's channel. To offer 100% transparency I created a new account on youtube to see if my recent comments were showing up on Dans channel and they are not. Folks most of my comments were calling dan out on him being "contradicting" and his "honesty". Since I have questioned him on HIS videos.. I am now blocked. He doesn't want people to read criticism towards his channel in the comment section. Dan knows he's not offering 100% truth and therefore doesn't want anybody to call him out on it. He also doesn't want other viewers to read my comments.

I feel compelled to leave a comment as I have virtually known Dan prior to him starting his channel several years back. He was very active in the beard community prior to starting his own channel as he commented on a lot of peoples videos. I’ll never forget Dan’s first intro video. He brought something new to the scene by including his wife and family in his videos. I knew at that point that he would be very successful. Dan was able to hit 1K subs pretty fast by pumping out videos, while also doing giveaways in almost all of his reviews. I had several beard company owners at the time reach out to me joking that he was the “giveaway king” and that his success was due to people just wanting free products. As his sub count grew and his videos progressed and got better, he started “Commands Corner” a weekly livestream featuring new companies each week with giveaways to attract viewers” Genius move by his part creating this. I also give him huge props for creating a basic logo that is now synonymous with his brand and used for various merchandise. I’ve got to give him huge props as Dan is a hard ass worker and out worked all of us other reviewers at the time to really set his channel apart from others. While Dan and I have not spoken in a while, we both live very busy lives with families and work so I’m not upset one bit by the lack of communication. I will say I’m not a huge fan of the out right asking for financial support and mentioning student dept and loans. I’m off the mindset you handle your business privately, work your ass off and the rest will take care of itself. Dan and I have completely different tastes in scent and beard products so I’ve never jumped on his recommendations. I know what I like and what works for my beard. At the end of the day, I don’t completely agree with how he does everything, but the dude is an incredibly hard worker, very knowledgeable and smart businessman. The biggest knock on him is that he is a University of Michigan graduate that doesn’t wear jeans, eat salads or drink coffee.
100% agree with what your saying. It's funny how others think I'm jealous or hating on him but I just said pretty much the same thing you just said , but in a different way. Lol an asshole way I guess. He does have many great attributes but some very negative ones also. I feel he would be bigger than scuba if he fixed those negative ones!!
Regarding the “carrier 101” videos, although I agree someone could go to google and perhaps find out this information I can’t see how you say this is useless. Sure, I could spend hours researching this, but Dan C. did that for me, wrapped it up in an educational and entertaining package, that I could view as I ate my popcorn and watched. That’s value added right there. Similarly he has gone out and read scholarly research studies, boiled that down into understandable bites, and presented it to us in an entertaining way. Again, there is value in that.
Yes I mentioned this towards the end actually. It is easier to be all in one spot. Again this is far from a bash on Dan c. Yes I don't like his methods and that's ok. He has many positive points and just as many negative ones. I am doing this series to point out both. Thanks so much for the comment and support on the video.
Sorry one more. Those studies he reads aren't that big a deal. I e taken the same classes and read the same articles he has and continue to do the same diligence to bring facts to my viewers. I just see it like this. There are people that sell cars that run well and last a lifetime and then there are people that sell lemons that break down on you after a couple months. Dan has become the women car salesman. I am one of the guys that has watched him pretty much since the beginning. There is more behind the scenes to him than his on screen persona
Dan C has been instrumental to my beard journey, and I greatly appreciate it. I've learned a ton from him and have found lots of products and practices that have been game changers for me because of him. I'll always take that to heart and I do still watch his videos. That being said, I started noticing a change when he started doing it full time. Couldn't even really put my finger on it, but something has felt kind of different. I'm not going to throw any shade or accusations or speculate on anything, but I've found myself watching some of his videos and just feeling that something's off in a way I can't really articulate. There seem to be extreme feelings in either direction, and I fell like I'm camping out in a less emotionally invested middle. He's put out tons of good information, and I still find myself rewatching older videos that I still find helpful, but there's been a noticable shift in my view. I'll always gladly accept his knowledge and anything I can learn, but it doesn't seem as genuine and personal anymore. I do think he genuinely loves it and is passionate about it and has made amazing advances in the industry because of that, but the business aspect has been coming to the forefront (which I understand; he's supporting his family) and I think it's taken away some of the magic that drew me to subscribe to a UA-cam channel (his was the first I was ever compelled to subscribe to).
Well you've opened your eyes a little to be honest. This video and series truly isn't to hate or bash any of these guys. I mean that. Dan is a good dude that I've known for years now, but he does do things that people just don't see. There is a lot of things that happen behind the closed doors and most will never know it unless someone speaks about it. I don't care he makes money either. I care how he does it. The snake oils, the lies, and controlling his friends by "if you associate with guys like me then I will block you out of the community " is messed up. Let me give you an experiment. Leave two comments on his channel questioning his video, teachings, or why he is pushing the company and see what happens to your account. I bet you will no longer be able to leave comments on his channel. Your freedom of speech and opinion will be no more. Those types of things are wrong especially since he offers freedom and safety on his channel. That's just one of dozens of examples I can give you of how he uses his popularity to control things behind closed doors.
I feel bad that I'm giving you the oxygen of publicity by commenting but I feel you come across like a little guy who wishes he did what Dan did. I have seen a few of Dan's videos but literally I don't recognise most of the criticism that you level at him. You don't give specific examples. You don't give links to what you are talking about. You're just blowing smoke.
I’ve enjoyed Dan C channel from time to time. He taught me a lot in the beginning and occasionally I’ll watch to see if I can learn something new. The only thing that made me question his content was where he promoted a product that was expensive to help grow your beard when we all know it’s your own body that determines that. Other than that, if the title grabs my attention then I’ll watch it. I wish him the best of luck since this is his only form of support for him and his family. I understand the pushing of affiliates. I don’t always like his collaborations, but there is some I do enjoy. Of course, this is all subjective. I admire his dedication and knowledge of the subject.
Dan is the man! He does this for a living, and is upfront about his affiliates. I see no problem with how he conducts his business, and will continue to support him and his channel. I don't see the biases that you do. To me he comes across as an honest guy that genuinely cares about his followers. You're sounding a little bit jealous honestly. I can't give you a thumbs up on this one, but I will say that I am impressed with your collection of beard oils!
If you watch the video I say many positive things about the guy. You don't see what you don't want to see! That's how it works. It's like ignoring homeless people. Not there if your not looking for em. Appreciate your opinion

Yes, he definitely does. Sadly he does the bare minimum and gets the most praise. His content now is ignorant and a waste of time to be honest. For example, "how to brush your beard in the wind", or " how to eat with a beard". Lol I mean really.
Side note: NO ISSUES with anything you said except the part about Dan being a man and the example you used with children and those children/child looking up to their father. I know that you did not do that maliciously, BUT that part could have been left out. Just want to reiterate that I have no issues with ANYTHING else said, but that part. You could have let that slide, respectfully 🙏🏾👊🏾.
I don't really see a problem with being an advertiser and a reviewer as long as the person is up front about it. Dan's value to me is more in the informational and entertainment videos. The reviews are thorough, although to me, they're more paid commercials. I enjoy his educational videos and live stream. Dan helped me, unsolicited, no charge, at the beginning of my channel, which I appreciated. My suggestions would be to end the donation solicitations and the growth oil promotions. They both hurt his image, in my opinion. No channel is going to be perfect, but he's doing something right when you see the growth and views. I admire the guts it took to quit his job and follow his dream. I wish him the best.
Oh yeah I 100% agree like I said in the video there's many many great things about him and his channel I believe I said more positive than negative, but and I do mean a big butt it's kind of like the difference between a car salesman that doesn't legitimately and a guy that sells lemons to people. And when I say lemons I mean a lemon car. I have no issue with anyone making monetary gain in any form or fashion I've owned my own business for a decade at least up until a year ago when I decided to work for someone else and fully believe that you can run a business honestly and with good intentions and follow up with those good intentions instead of being dirty and fake
Success breeds enemies. As for myself, watching his videos in March of 2020 gave me motivation to grow and love my beard. Nobody is perfect of course, but I can see that he is committed to helping others on their beard journey. How he earns his money is his business and I do enjoy his content as I do with others in the beard community. Thank you for the video.
I don't think he has any enemies per se I wouldn't consider myself an enemy to him. And as I've mentioned many times and in this video as well I don't have an issue with really anything he's doing besides, how he makes the money. You could use this as an example, all of us reviewers/influencers are car salesman, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. It's the way some reviewers are selling lemons. As in selling something no matter what's wrong with it just to make the money that's where the issue is. Dan has many and I do mean many great qualities and has done a lot of things to better the whole hobby. I honestly think it's pretty cool that he's able to do this as a full-time job personally wouldn't do it but good on him for doing it. I think a lot of people don't understand the message that I'm trying to get across to him and everyone else. They misconstrue this video and many others like it as hating, being jealous, and whatever else you can come up with instead of what it actually is and that is trying to point out that it doesn't have to be all about the money at any cost. Make the money but make it the right way if that makes sense to you
So. I’ve been watching Dan C’s videos for a while now and have been a long time subscriber. Don’t go on his live streams much anymore though. I do enjoy his 12 days of beardsmas. I don’t know the ins and outs of how a lot of these affiliates and giveaways work to be honest but I have won on dans channel and it introduced me to companies I probably would have never bought from or allowed me to try them for free. Some of his recommendations I have loved, some not so much. Especially scent wise, we like two different things and that’s subjective. Finally I will say. I have reached out to Dan several times on IG and he’ has.ALWAYS responded, usually within 30 minutes. I don’t know Dan personally or had a conversation with him one on one but he’s always been nothing to nice to me! As far as how he makes his money. People should try to make a much money as they can and try to be as successful as they can. If people aren’t doing that, they lack ambition. If you make that money doing something you love, then you’ve hit a homerun.
The more brands you try the more you find out they all work different for your beard… What made me start questioning Dan was when he would put out a lengthy list of affiliate codes. Only a small handful of products work really well for me so I couldn’t imagine all of those working that great for him. It’s a bit unauthentic to claim they all work because he only wants a piece of the pie from every company he can get. And asking for money to pay off your loans while showing off your vacations and home is quite cringeworthy.
I definitely learned a lot from Dan and have nothing bad to say about the guy, the one thing I do agree with in this video is the “Contradictory” part but we all have on our beard journey brought a product that we thought was the best, to later say “This product is trash” and I’m never using it again.
Yes and I understand that. The thing is the contradiction with Dan is he does it for financial gain. Say a company doesn't want to work with him bc it cost $400-600 just to be Reviewed, Dan will drop them and say it isn't a good company or product. That's not good. No, he won't make a video saying that but will tell ppl that in messages and on live streams. That's just one tiny example of dozens I can give. I do like Dan, but he really went after me when I criticized the direction that Beardbrand is now taking. His response to me was actually unsettling, even though he says his channel is not an echo chamber. True, he will not delete your comments, but sometimes his responses are pretty scathing and sarcastic...almost ridiculing at times...didn't make me feel good.
I went back to the video and searched for your comment and the responses… yeah he definitely came off as a sarcastic Dick and then when you said you were unsure how to take his comment he said he’s 100% smiles. Dans low key a Dick. He doesn’t like it when people disagree with his viewpoints or his videos. I guess I’m a little sheltered or just have different thought process but I don’t think there’s anything negative I could ever say about Dan. So this video popping up on my feed was a shocker. Not gonna to say much more than that regarding the main topic of this video, so I’ll get to my actual question. What’s your issue with the new Beardbrand oil? I’m not sure I understand what you’re referring to specifically in the video. I have their old bottles and their brand new one. I don’t perceive any change at all in the oil, and I feel like I didn’t even see any changes in the ingredients list either. Correct me if I’m wrong on that. But as far as feel in beard, scent, ect, I never once have noticed anything so unless you’re strictly talking about the packaging (which is fair as it’s your opinion and totally subjective) I just don’t know what else would be “garbage” about it. Can you explain?
Have they always had glycerin in their oils??? Also I have had at least 75 other ppl agreeing how weak the scent has gotten. That's just the ones that reached out to me personally. I feel they had a huge brand with goodish products and now they are catering to the lower end of the market and in doing so they can't afford to sell the same quality at a dramatically lower price like this. The logistics don't add up. Also don't take me saying something is bad so personally. It's just a beard hobby my friend. My channel is about freedom to say what you want without the fear of being blocked from commenting and honesty. I've been around long enough to know a good amount about how all this works. My channel is newer and young but I've been acting in the community much longer. I know how the business side works and also how these reviewers work. I used to be close with them all. Just ask them

If that’s the feedback you’ve gotten on their scent, fair enough. I don’t perceive it, but if others have noticed it that’s fine. No way I can verify one way or not on that. As far as having glycerin in their products I mean I can’t say “always” because I don’t know. I can tell you that I have a couple bottles I bought in January 2021 and they do have glycerin as an ingredient. It was a gold line four vices I ordered direct and a white label lumberyard from target. So they have had it at least since then.

I love both your channels. I am not sure where the issue lies between you and Dan C. If he is considered an influencer then monetizing his clout shouldn't be the problem especially when he is at times ranking and bashing companies for their flaws equally. I have yet to see a review of his where he and his wife were not honest of their preferences. Now that asking for money thing? I honestly don't recall any of that. Not aware of a patreon page or gofundme to send money. If you don't take the advise its fine. If he recommends something that may not fly with me at the moment I have no problem voicing it to him and we can agree to disagree. He provides the information, do with it what you will. Honestly I support both of yall for the honesty, and transparency and most of all ya both look like cool cats to have a drink with and shoot the shit. Like in any friendship or trust, once you mix business with pleasure... I am turned off. But I fully support both of you for your insights and entertainment value. I occasionally watch Dans videos but once I caught him backtracking on the whole growth oil thing I figured out he was paid for his time and that is the difference between honesty and an out and out lie… I don’t want people’s money, I want their trust, that to me is waaayyy more valuable 🤛💯
I'm not exactly getting the point of this video. Beard information is purely subjective. I don't believe most of what I hear in beard videos. Beard guys tend to over think the process. You should probably shelf your jealousy and work on productive content.

No Dan C vids for me. I don't like the asking for money content saying he's so in debt w student loans while he's constantly posting vids while he's on vacation an cruises. Here's my two cents. Mostly on his decision to quit his former job. That's his personal business and I won't ever dissuade a man from pursuing his dreams. I left my previous job to pursue Ferocious full time in June 2021. I spent the next year planning/simplifying/and quite honestly, the time I was able to devote to Ferocious full time was absolutely priceless for future growth. Recently, I took a part time job at a big box store because it lets me still work on getting Ferocious products out to my customers but ALSO keeps me physically active AND provides killer medical and 401k benefits to support the family, because while Ferocious brings in a decent annual supplemental salary, it certainly doesn't pay enough to cover medical insurance AND salary. So my point is that Dan still has options and I commend him for taking the time off to give him time to structure his life's dream without the distraction of the full time job. He can always find a job in the future that provides reasonably priced insurance, some extra money and will still allow him to grow his UA-cam presence. And who knows if he'll stay in the beard community exclusively or maybe he'll branch out to bigger things on UA-cam. He certainly has the wits about him to do that! I agree that Dan is an influencer not a reviewer, and there's nothing wrong with that if it's acknowledged. He's certainly got a gift, and he's making it work for him. This is America, and he's running a business. Although Ferocious has never advertised on Dan's channel, I've always been impressed with him as a businessman.

I agree with you 💯. Example. Dan always preaches to cold water rinse. One time I asked him about beard porosity and how different types of porosities take in oils or water better at different temperatures. He told me porosity was such a small factor it wouldn't make a difference. Which is complete BS. In his world it's his way or no way. That's the impression I get. Your also right about the products. He's just there to sell it to you and make money from it. Unfortunately a lot of the older channels are leaning towards paid reviews.
Drew, I am very much like you in my opinion of Dan C, at the start of by beard journey I watched his videos and did learn things from his wealth of knowledge. However, as time went on and as his channel grew due to his affiliation and associations, I lost interest. I personally don’t care for his channel or his delivery of information. If I have a question about an ingredient or a product I can do my research and find answers for myself. I also prefer your channel for the fact you shine a light on lesser known companies and you have introduced me to some real gems. On a final note in regards to Dan C, I don’t see him changing his ways due to success and the fact that UA-cam is his occupation. I will say that I enjoy this series and look forward to all of your future videos, no matter the subject. 🤓🤙❤️
I do wish I knew why he doesn't like Black Rebel Beard Co. They were the first company I started using that was more "mainstream" and Pedro basically has a cult following lol. I know he's done videos about his products in the past that were saying they were good but all I got from him when I asked recently was "I'm not a fan". I'm thinking they either had a disagreement or someone else he is affiliated with did.

I think with Dan you have to eat the meat and spit out the bones. He does have some good content. He no doubt has the most content of everyone. Much of it is repetitive. Some of it seems to be helpful. Just like some of his advice with products, you have to spit out the bones but I can see where many of his recommendations might lead someone down a path to a bigger company that's just not as good as the small batch companies. He has to be getting come kick back from those recommendations. I feel like you'd be able to respect his recommendations more if he would include smaller companies and not require everyone to pay him for a review but then again this is how he is making his living. So, with all that said, you have to consider that he is a paid reviewer. Take some of his knowledge and throw out what may not be super helpful because it could be tainted by what is influencing him. I wish Dan would open up to the smaller guys. He seems like a decent guy but I'm not one of his sycophants that will follow him as "my trusted teacher". What I've done since I've been into beards is I'll take what I can from him and ignore what I do not feel is helpful.
I should add... I'm not saying that Dan C is great for everyone or that guys who are more confident or established in their beard journeys should expect to learn much from him. However Dan does make bite size beard videos which work, with and anyone who is looking to start in their journey as I did, will find it an amazing resource. And like I said before. I'm kinda gutted that you can't let that be a thing.
He’s undeniably a great source for new beginners seeking information. He provides a great format for beginners, but eventually a lot those beginners will get gassed out of his recycled material and seek new areas for product recommendations, opinions and sources. Kentucky has just provided everyone a great video series here by showcasing pros and cons of specific channels. The community literally needs this new light/darkness shined upon various channels. In the end it’s for the individual to make up their mind if they want to keep following dan religiously.. or to look outside the norm of a salesman. Dan is almost reminding me of the Walmart brand of the beard community. You can get exactly what you need, but curiosity will creep up and you’ll eventually seek out where you can find better product.
Where to begin... Here we go. Dan C was a huge part of my early beard journey. I learned a lot from his videos and I USE to be a supporter of his. (Months ago). He's knowledgeable, well spoken and can really rally up a following. Similar to Jim Jones. His following loves the koolaid. Dan C is not a GOD. I've ordered many product recommendations from him. Most of which did not work for me. Some of his recommendations were decent. Although theres not a single company that he has recommended that I will go back to. My comments on his channel are absolutely negative, because I believe in pointing out what I think is BS, boring, recycled or contradicting. Some companies are catering to HIS wants and HIS needs. Dan C has a reason to push those companies now. But some companies need to think for themselves and not rely on Dan. Dans beard is not the same as everyones. Does anyone realize that Dan will make a video about a company and then never talk about them again? Why did he push them in the first place if he's never gonna talk about them again? Either that company stopped paying him or Dan isn't affiliated with them anymore. BOOM monetary gain at its finest. The positivity surrounding dan feels so negative. Just by the way his channel is revolved around money and by the way his fans flock him as if he's to be praised. It's quite odd. Dan your channel will continue to grow. Good job on that. Dang man I did read all of what you said, and i agree with a bunch of what you just stated. I've tried numerous companies he's affiliated with, and my goodness, the oils & butters are normally good or really really terrible. The bigger companies affiliated with him seem to be using cheaper carrier oils (prob bought in large quantities for max profit gaines) because it seems like every company I tried dried the hell outta my beard. Reached out tah 2 companies he's affiliated with when this happened and I never got an answer back, or a refund....nothing. Could I ask you what companies you'd recommend dude? I say sometimes because I’ve had bad beard days with his oil and good beard days. My favorite scent from black rebel is Hendrix which happens to be my favorite oil scent of all time lol. I aim to try blazing beards, anointed beard oil, bloom beards, jolly old fat man, beard shack and magnanimus. Oh and classic grooming and Nicholas beard works ivory majestic/prestige are good too. Hope that helps with some that I like and some I’m looking forward to trying. I still haven’t found my holy grail yet. Still searching for my FAV lol.

I watched this video expecting you to do what you do best: tell the truth. I honestly watched very few of his videos because I never was much for his reviews. When I had questions about a particular carrier ingredient, I just googled it and read a few articles. It's not hard to figure it out from there. When he backs questionable companies, it's obvious he's a paid advertiser and professional influencer than an honest reviewer.

Ima be real. Most of my dresser is filled from oils he reviewed. Just the companies tho. Prob my only thing with him is his scent preferences , and his pushing of affiliates. Cause he has reviewed some great companies that are not affiliates but he don’t promote them. It’s not wrong. But hey. That’s him. I do rock with his Channel hard, do i buy every oil he reviewed ? No. Did i get rid of oils he reccommend that don’t work for me ? Yes. Even the top tier companies. Off his channel , i do prefer Artius man , bearded Mack & black rebel if i can keep only 3 companies. But other than that. It’s just all subjective. But even then i bought oils that you recommend that he didn’t review or other companies. Some worked. Some didn’t. Lucky me i got a best friend who is bearded and enjoy all the shit i give away. UPDATE: I have been blocked from Dan C's channel. To offer 100% transparency I created a new account on youtube to see if my recent comments were showing up on Dans channel and they are not. Folks most of my comments were calling dan out on him being "contradicting" and his "honesty". Since I have questioned him on HIS videos.. I am now blocked. He doesn't want people to read criticism towards his channel in the comment section. Dan knows he's not offering 100% truth and therefore doesn't want anybody to call him out on it. He also doesn't want other viewers to read my comments.

I feel compelled to leave a comment as I have virtually known Dan prior to him starting his channel several years back. He was very active in the beard community prior to starting his own channel as he commented on a lot of peoples videos. I’ll never forget Dan’s first intro video. He brought something new to the scene by including his wife and family in his videos. I knew at that point that he would be very successful.
Dan was able to hit 1K subs pretty fast by pumping out videos, while also doing giveaways in almost all of his reviews. I had several beard company owners at the time reach out to me joking that he was the “giveaway king” and that his success was due to people just wanting free products. As his sub count grew and his videos progressed and got better, he started “Commands Corner” a weekly livestream featuring new companies each week with giveaways to attract viewers” Genius move by his part creating this. I also give him huge props for creating a basic logo that is now synonymous with his brand and used for various merchandise.
I’ve got to give him huge props as Dan is a hard ass worker and out worked all of us other reviewers at the time to really set his channel apart from others.
While Dan and I have not spoken in a while, we both live very busy lives with families and work so I’m not upset one bit by the lack of communication. I will say I’m not a huge fan of the out right asking for financial support and mentioning student dept and loans. I’m off the mindset you handle your business privately, work your ass off and the rest will take care of itself. Dan and I have completely different tastes in scent and beard products so I’ve never jumped on his recommendations. I know what I like and what works for my beard.
At the end of the day, I don’t completely agree with how he does everything, but the dude is an incredibly hard worker, very knowledgeable and smart businessman. The biggest knock on him is that he is a University of Michigan graduate that doesn’t wear jeans, eat salads or drink coffee.
100% agree with what your saying. It's funny how others think I'm jealous or hating on him but I just said pretty much the same thing you just said , but in a different way. Regarding the “carrier 101” videos, although I agree someone could go to google and perhaps find out this information I can’t see how you say this is useless. Sure, I could spend hours researching this, but Dan C. did that for me, wrapped it up in an educational and entertaining package, that I could view as I ate my popcorn and watched. That’s value added right there.
Similarly he has gone out and read scholarly research studies, boiled that down into understandable bites, and presented it to us in an entertaining way. Again, there is value in that.
Yes I mentioned this towards the end actually. It is easier to be all in one spot. Again this is far from a bash on Dan c. Yes I don't like his methods and that's ok. He has many positive points and just as many negative ones. I am doing this series to point out both. Thanks so much for the comment and support on the video.
Sorry one more. Those studies he reads aren't that big a deal. I e taken the same classes and read the same articles he has and continue to do the same diligence to bring facts to my viewers. I just see it like this. There are people that sell cars that run well and last a lifetime and then there are people that sell lemons that break down on you after a couple months. Dan has become the women car salesman. I am one of the guys that has watched him pretty much since the beginning. There is more behind the scenes to him than his on screen persona
Dan C has been instrumental to my beard journey, and I greatly appreciate it. I've learned a ton from him and have found lots of products and practices that have been game changers for me because of him. I'll always take that to heart and I do still watch his videos. That being said, I started noticing a change when he started doing it full time. Couldn't even really put my finger on it, but something has felt kind of different. I'm not going to throw any shade or accusations or speculate on anything, but I've found myself watching some of his videos and just feeling that something's off in a way I can't really articulate. There seem to be extreme feelings in either direction, and I fell like I'm camping out in a less emotionally invested middle. He's put out tons of good information, and I still find myself rewatching older videos that I still find helpful, but there's been a noticable shift in my view. I'll always gladly accept his knowledge and anything I can learn, but it doesn't seem as genuine and personal anymore. I do think he genuinely loves it and is passionate about it and has made amazing advances in the industry because of that, but the business aspect has been coming to the forefront (which I understand; he's supporting his family) and I think it's taken away some of the magic that drew me to subscribe to a UA-cam channel (his was the first I was ever compelled to subscribe to).
Well you've opened your eyes a little to be honest. This video and series truly isn't to hate or bash any of these guys. I mean that. Dan is a good dude that I've known for years now, but he does do things that people just don't see. There is a lot of things that happen behind the closed doors and most will never know it unless someone speaks about it. I don't care he makes money either. I care how he does it. The snake oils, the lies, and controlling his friends by "if you associate with guys like me then I will block you out of the community " is messed up. Let me give you an experiment. Leave two comments on his channel questioning his video, teachings, or why he is pushing the company and see what happens to your account. I bet you will no longer be able to leave comments on his channel. Your freedom of speech and opinion will be no more. Those types of things are wrong especially since he offers freedom and safety on his channel. That's just one of dozens of examples I can give you of how he uses his popularity to control things behind closed doors.
I feel bad that I'm giving you the oxygen of publicity by commenting but I feel you come across like a little guy who wishes he did what Dan did. I have seen a few of Dan's videos but literally I don't recognise most of the criticism that you level at him. You don't give specific examples. You don't give links to what you are talking about. You're just blowing smoke.
I’ve enjoyed Dan C channel from time to time. He taught me a lot in the beginning and occasionally I’ll watch to see if I can learn something new. The only thing that made me question his content was where he promoted a product that was expensive to help grow your beard when we all know it’s your own body that determines that. Other than that, if the title grabs my attention then I’ll watch it. I wish him the best of luck since this is his only form of support for him and his family. I understand the pushing of affiliates. I don’t always like his collaborations, but there is some I do enjoy. Of course, this is all subjective. I admire his dedication and knowledge of the subject.

I don't really see a problem with being an advertiser and a reviewer as long as the person is up front about it. Dan's value to me is more in the informational and entertainment videos. The reviews are thorough, although to me, they're more paid commercials. I enjoy his educational videos and live stream. Dan helped me, unsolicited, no charge, at the beginning of my channel, which I appreciated. My suggestions would be to end the donation solicitations and the growth oil promotions. They both hurt his image, in my opinion. No channel is going to be perfect, but he's doing something right when you see the growth and views. I admire the guts it took to quit his job and follow his dream. I wish him the best.
Oh yeah I 100% agree like I said in the video there's many many great things about him and his channel I believe I said more positive than negative, but and I do mean a big butt it's kind of like the difference between a car salesman that doesn't legitimately and a guy that sells lemons to people. And when I say lemons I mean a lemon car. I have no issue with anyone making monetary gain in any form or fashion I've owned my own business for a decade at least up until a year ago when I decided to work for someone else and fully believe that you can run a business honestly and with good intentions and follow up with those good intentions instead of being dirty and fake
Success breeds enemies. As for myself, watching his videos in March of 2020 gave me motivation to grow and love my beard. Nobody is perfect of course, but I can see that he is committed to helping others on their beard journey. How he earns his money is his business and I do enjoy his content as I do with others in the beard community. Thank you for the video.
I don't think he has any enemies per se I wouldn't consider myself an enemy to him. And as I've mentioned many times and in this video as well I don't have an issue with really anything he's doing besides, how he makes the money. You could use this as an example, all of us reviewers/influencers are car salesman, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. It's the way some reviewers are selling lemons. As in selling something no matter what's wrong with it just to make the money that's where the issue is. Dan has many and I do mean many great qualities and has done a lot of things to better the whole hobby. I honestly think it's pretty cool that he's able to do this as a full-time job personally wouldn't do it but good on him for doing it. I think a lot of people don't understand the message that I'm trying to get across to him and everyone else. They misconstrue this video and many others like it as hating, being jealous, and whatever else you can come up with instead of what it actually is and that is trying to point out that it doesn't have to be all about the money at any cost. Make the money but make it the right way if that makes sense to you
So. I’ve been watching Dan C’s videos for a while now and have been a long time subscriber. Don’t go on his live streams much anymore though. I do enjoy his 12 days of beardsmas. I don’t know the ins and outs of how a lot of these affiliates and giveaways work to be honest but I have won on dans channel and it introduced me to companies I probably would have never bought from or allowed me to try them for free. Some of his recommendations I have loved, some not so much. Especially scent wise, we like two different things and that’s subjective. Finally I will say. I have reached out to Dan several times on IG and he’ has.ALWAYS responded, usually within 30 minutes. I don’t know Dan personally or had a conversation with him one on one but he’s always been nothing to nice to me! As far as how he makes his money. People should try to make a much money as they can and try to be as successful as they can. If people aren’t doing that, they lack ambition. If you make that money doing something you love, then you’ve hit a homerun.

What made me start questioning Dan was when he would put out a lengthy list of affiliate codes. Only a small handful of products work really well for me so I couldn’t imagine all of those working that great for him. It’s a bit unauthentic to claim they all work because he only wants a piece of the pie from every company he can get.
And asking for money to pay off your loans while showing off your vacations and home is quite cringeworthy.

I definitely learned a lot from Dan and have nothing bad to say about the guy, the one thing I do agree with in this video is the “Contradictory” part but we all have on our beard journey brought a product that we thought was the best, to later say “This product is trash” and I’m never using it again.

Say a company doesn't want to work with him bc it cost $400-600 just to be Reviewed, Dan will drop them and say it isn't a good company or product. That's not good. I do like Dan, but he really went after me when I criticized the direction that Beardbrand is now taking. His response to me was actually unsettling, even though he says his channel is not an echo chamber. True, he will not delete your comments, but sometimes his responses are pretty scathing and sarcastic...almost ridiculing at times...didn't make me feel good.

What’s your issue with the new Beardbrand oil? I’m not sure I understand what you’re referring to specifically in the video. I have their old bottles and their brand new one. I don’t perceive any change at all in the oil, and I feel like I didn’t even see any changes in the ingredients list either. Correct me if I’m wrong on that. But as far as feel in beard, scent, ect, I never once have noticed anything so unless you’re strictly talking about the packaging (which is fair as it’s your opinion and totally subjective) I just don’t know what else would be “garbage” about it. Have they always had glycerin in their oils??? Also I have had at least 75 other ppl agreeing how weak the scent has gotten. That's just the ones that reached out to me personally. I feel they had a huge brand with goodish products and now they are catering to the lower end of the market and in doing so they can't afford to sell the same quality at a dramatically lower price like this. The logistics don't add up. Also don't take me saying something is bad so personally. It's just a beard hobby my friend. My channel is about freedom to say what you want without the fear of being blocked from commenting and honesty. I've been around long enough to know a good amount about how all this works. My channel is newer and young but I've been acting in the community much longer. I know how the business side works and also how these reviewers work. I used to be close with them all. Just ask them

If that’s the feedback you’ve gotten on their scent, fair enough. I don’t perceive it, but if others have noticed it that’s fine. No way I can verify one way or not on that. As far as having glycerin in their products I mean I can’t say “always” because I don’t know. I can tell you that I have a couple bottles I bought in January 2021 and they do have glycerin as an ingredient. It was a gold line four vices I ordered direct and a white label lumberyard from target. So they have had it at least since then.
And I’m not trying to defend them by any means. I was legitimately curious what you meant by them being garbage. They aren’t my favorite brand, but I still really like them and how it feels in my beard.
I love both your channels. I am not sure where the issue lies between you and Dan C. If he is considered an influencer then monetizing his clout shouldn't be the problem especially when he is at times ranking and bashing companies for their flaws equally. I have yet to see a review of his where he and his wife were not honest of their preferences. Now that asking for money thing? I honestly don't recall any of that. Not aware of a patreon page or gofundme to send money. If you don't take the advise its fine. If he recommends something that may not fly with me at the moment I have no problem voicing it to him and we can agree to disagree. He provides the information, do with it what you will. Honestly I support both of yall for the honesty, and transparency and most of all ya both look like cool cats to have a drink with and shoot the shit. I occasionally watch Dans videos but once I caught him backtracking on the whole growth oil thing I figured out he was paid for his time and that is the difference between honesty and an out and out lie… I don’t want people’s money, I want their trust, that to me is waaayyy more valuable 🤛💯
I'm not exactly getting the point of this video. Beard information is purely subjective. I don't believe most of what I hear in beard videos. Beard guys tend to over think the process. You should probably shelf your jealousy and work on productive content.

Here's my two cents. Mostly on his decision to quit his former job. That's his personal business and I won't ever dissuade a man from pursuing his dreams. I left my previous job to pursue Ferocious full time in June 2021. I spent the next year planning/simplifying/and quite honestly, the time I was able to devote to Ferocious full time was absolutely priceless for future growth. Recently, I took a part time job at a big box store because it lets me still work on getting Ferocious products out to my customers but ALSO keeps me physically active AND provides killer medical and 401k benefits to support the family, because while Ferocious brings in a decent annual supplemental salary, it certainly doesn't pay enough to cover medical insurance AND salary. So my point is that Dan still has options and I commend him for taking the time off to give him time to structure his life's dream without the distraction of the full time job. He can always find a job in the future that provides reasonably priced insurance, some extra money and will still allow him to grow his UA-cam presence. And who knows if he'll stay in the beard community exclusively or maybe he'll branch out to bigger things on UA-cam. He certainly has the wits about him to do that! I agree that Dan is an influencer not a reviewer, and there's nothing wrong with that if it's acknowledged. He's certainly got a gift, and he's making it work for him. This is America, and he's running a business. Although Ferocious has never advertised on Dan's channel, I've always been impressed with him as a businessman.

I agree with you 💯. Example. Dan always preaches to cold water rinse. One time I asked him about beard porosity and how different types of porosities take in oils or water better at different temperatures. He told me porosity was such a small factor it wouldn't make a difference. Which is complete BS. In his world it's his way or no way. That's the impression I get. Your also right about the products. He's just there to sell it to you and make money from it. Unfortunately a lot of the older channels are leaning towards paid reviews.
Drew, I am very much like you in my opinion of Dan C, at the start of by beard journey I watched his videos and did learn things from his wealth of knowledge. However, as time went on and as his channel grew due to his affiliation and associations, I lost interest. I personally don’t care for his channel or his delivery of information. If I have a question about an ingredient or a product I can do my research and find answers for myself. I also prefer your channel for the fact you shine a light on lesser known companies and you have introduced me to some real gems. On a final note in regards to Dan C, I don’t see him changing his ways due to success and the fact that UA-cam is his occupation. I will say that I enjoy this series and look forward to all of your future videos, no matter the subject. 🤓🤙❤️

I do wish I knew why he doesn't like Black Rebel Beard Co. They were the first company I started using that was more "mainstream" and Pedro basically has a cult following lol. I know he's done videos about his products in the past that were saying they were good but all I got from him when I asked recently was "I'm not a fan". I'm thinking they either had a disagreement or someone else he is affiliated with did.

I think with Dan you have to eat the meat and spit out the bones. He does have some good content. He no doubt has the most content of everyone. Much of it is repetitive. Some of it seems to be helpful. Just like some of his advice with products, you have to spit out the bones but I can see where many of his recommendations might lead someone down a path to a bigger company that's just not as good as the small batch companies. He has to be getting come kick back from those recommendations. I feel like you'd be able to respect his recommendations more if he would include smaller companies and not require everyone to pay him for a review but then again this is how he is making his living. So, with all that said, you have to consider that he is a paid reviewer. Take some of his knowledge and throw out what may not be super helpful because it could be tainted by what is influencing him. I wish Dan would open up to the smaller guys. He seems like a decent guy but I'm not one of his sycophants that will follow him as "my trusted teacher". What I've done since I've been into beards is I'll take what I can from him and ignore what I do not feel is helpful.
I should add... I'm not saying that Dan C is great for everyone or that guys who are more confident or established in their beard journeys should expect to learn much from him. However Dan does make bite size beard videos which work, with and anyone who is looking to start in their journey as I did, will find it an amazing resource. And like I said before. I'm kinda gutted that you can't let that be a thing.
He’s undeniably a great source for new beginners seeking information. He provides a great format for beginners, but eventually a lot those beginners will get gassed out of his recycled material and seek new areas for product recommendations, opinions and sources. Kentucky has just provided everyone a great video series here by showcasing pros and cons of specific channels. The community literally needs this new light/darkness shined upon various channels. In the end it’s for the individual to make up their mind if they want to keep following dan religiously.. or to look outside the norm of a salesman. Dan is almost reminding me of the Walmart brand of the beard community. You can get exactly what you need, but curiosity will creep up and you’ll eventually seek out where you can find better product.
Where to begin... Here we go. Dan C was a huge part of my early beard journey. I learned a lot from his videos and I USE to be a supporter of his. (Months ago). He's knowledgeable, well spoken and can really rally up a following. Similar to Jim Jones. His following loves the koolaid. Dan C is not a GOD.
I've ordered many product recommendations from him. Most of which did not work for me. Some of his recommendations were decent. Although theres not a single company that he has recommended that I will go back to. (Except he just started recommending some decent companies like LUX, but I think he's getting paid to recommend them now otherwise he wouldn't be pushing sales for LUX). His material is recycled which goes with the fact that he NEEDS to pump out videos for him to survive off of.
I believe Dan C has shunned me. I'll admit recently I've been calling Dan C out on some of his BS in his comment section. He began by responding to my comments, but has now stopped completely. He's told me I'm around the wrong crowd. Nah mate. My crowd is right here. Where my opinion is valued and my freedom of fucks are accepted. My comments on his channel are absolutely negative, because I believe in pointing out what I think is BS, boring, recycled or contradicting. Some companies are catering to HIS wants and HIS needs. Dan C has a reason to push those companies now. But some companies need to think for themselves and not rely on Dan. Dans beard is not the same as everyones.
Does anyone realize that Dan will make a video about a company and then never talk about them again? Why did he push them in the first place if he's never gonna talk about them again? Either that company stopped paying him or Dan isn't affiliated with them anymore. BOOM monetary gain at its finest.
The positivity surrounding dan feels so negative. Just by the way his channel is revolved around money and by the way his fans flock him as if he's to be praised. It's quite odd.

Dang man I did read all of what you said, and i agree with a bunch of what you just stated. I've tried numerous companies he's affiliated with, and my goodness, the oils & butters are normally good or really really terrible.
The bigger companies affiliated with him seem to be using cheaper carrier oils (prob bought in large quantities for max profit gaines) because it seems like every company I tried dried the hell outta my beard.
Reached out tah 2 companies he's affiliated with when this happened and I never got an answer back, or a refund....nothing.
Could I ask you what companies you'd recommend dude? Gonna be trying Crushers Creations, already like LUX. Peace ✌

I say sometimes because I’ve had bad beard days with his oil and good beard days. My favorite scent from black rebel is Hendrix which happens to be my favorite oil scent of all time lol. I aim to try blazing beards, anointed beard oil, bloom beards, jolly old fat man, beard shack and magnanimus. Oh and classic grooming and Nicholas beard works ivory majestic/prestige are good too. Hope that helps with some that I like and some I’m looking forward to trying. I still haven’t found my holy grail yet. Still searching for my FAV lol.

Yup, seen Dan do a lot of reviews of smaller batch companies, then never mention them again. I think he just got to big, along with wayyyyyyyyy to many affiliates. When that happens it seems even descent people seem to waver, and sacrifice honesty for money.

I watched this video expecting you to do what you do best: tell the truth. I honestly watched very few of his videos because I never was much for his reviews. When I had questions about a particular carrier ingredient, I just googled it and read a few articles. It's not hard to figure it out from there. When he backs questionable companies, it's obvious he's a paid advertiser and professional influencer than an honest reviewer.

Ima be real. Most of my dresser is filled from oils he reviewed. Just the companies tho. Prob my only thing with him is his scent preferences , and his pushing of affiliates. Cause he has reviewed some great companies that are not affiliates but he don’t promote them. It’s not wrong. But hey. That’s him. I do rock with his Channel hard, do i buy every oil he reviewed ? No. Did i get rid of oils he reccommend that don’t work for me ? Yes. Even the top tier companies. Off his channel , i do prefer Artius man , bearded Mack & black rebel if i can keep only 3 companies. But other than that. It’s just all subjective. But even then i bought oils that you recommend that he didn’t review or other companies. Some worked. Some didn’t. Lucky me i got a best friend who is bearded and enjoy all the shit i give away. I ran through his afflilate list and yes really only a few i will still wear and the top 2 is bearded Mack and Artius man. I honestly feel he should highlight the small guys. He should go back to that. And if a company drops him as a affiliate he will not talk about no more. I still watch his videos and support his channel. I just don’t like the biasness either.
