There is so much feeling from just the opening melody. Mozart really tapped into something special when he wrote Lacrimosa.

Liszt is such a great arranger. While many often dislike the bombast present in his own compositions, I find that he is very tasteful with how he handles other composers work. A personal favorite of mine is his arrangement of Schubert's Ave Maria S. 558. It's very faithful to the original yet at the same time still requires extremely advanced skill with the piano to play properly. The melody is in the middle register and is traded between the hands, often overlapping with the accompaniment, as such requiring extreme skill to properly voice the piece and smoothly bring out the melody.
His arrangement of Beethoven’s symphonies are the best piano arrangements out there IMO.
I am just beginning to learn this piece. I am really impressed at how skillful yet manageable the piece is. It takes a lot of practice but it is doable. Phrasing however is a whole other level though :)

I also think his beethiven symphony transcriptions are not only excellent transcriptions but some of my favorite piano solo works.
Just listened to that ave maria - good suggestion never heard it before and excellent as well.
I feel like since liszt was also a celebrated and great conductor - not to mention his skills at the keyboard - he was uniquely placed to get the transcriptions right
me personally i like la campanella also i think thalburgs composition is better but this one is still good the only reason i came here was because i like the a-flat and a on the first measure idk why but it sounds so good

Sight reading is incredibly important.
Same here, I’m 20 now and started sight reading last summer. It was hard at the beginning because I was used to play by ear since I was 5. Sometimes I still have to count the notes from the bottom of each bar, but it gets easier! It’s way faster to actually read the music (if you start to get the hang of it). Don’t give up!

Amazing. I had sung this in the requiem and counted it, but having studied harp for awhile i looked at it with new eyes on your score. Amazing. You make good use of any instrument you use. This score would require several harpers, as we only use four fingers on each hand.

I want to learn lacrimosa but I dont know which is better the liszt version or the thalberg one?
I'm learning the Thalberg interpretation currently. my friend suggested me Thalberg because she was learning Liszt and she said its kinda hard. Thalberg goes easy on the fingers. He does rolled chords. and you'll need to stretch your fingers a lot too. Thalberg sounds thinner and easier than Liszt's arrangement, but it still is really good. In my opinion, you should definitely go for the Thalberg arrangement. It will be uncomfortable when you start to play but as you keep learning and making the piece better, you will really love playing Lacrimosa. All the best.
Doesn't the third chord at 2:42 need a G# in the right hand as opposed to G Natural because of the G# accidental after the first chord?

Lacrymosa is a part of Requiem in D minor K. 626 by Mozart. This arrangement of it for solo Piano was written by Liszt.

Wow! Never heard this before but I heard of it. To be honest I expected to hate it. I've never liked the heavy hands of Liszt. I feel bombarded by his work usually and while this has his trademark 12-finger styling I enjoyed this. It is a respectable interpretation of a delicate melody. Thank you for playing it.

I'd suggest you listen to his Benediction de Dieu dans la Solitude, his Romance or his Consolation No.3. Liszt is far from a simple heavy handed virtuoso.
