      My mother's mother was a professional tailor, it came down in our family that "Glass cloths" or "Barkeeper's cloths" made of linen were the best pressing cloths. Also mamma said they were always rinsed out and hung up to dry, I guess to make sure starch didn't build up in them. But maybe it helps keep the fibers hydrated too.

      Oh.. thank you for sharing! 😍 I will have to try these out as pressing cloths.
      I also rinse my pressing cloths on the regular as I try to avoid to cause staining. Plus you get a neater press with lightly damp cloths too 😉

    I subscribed mainly because of how generous you are with credit to others where due. The confidence to collaborate is the mark of a true leader. Brava!

      I am so glad to have you here! 😊💖 I totally agree with you. As a creative person I think it's so important to credit fellow creative people. Of course some ideas do not have a clear origin and no idea is fully unique, but I found it extra important when both Leah & Evelyn inspired me AND I followed their tutorials step-by-step.

    For the washer you can make a washer stand. You take a block of wood and a piece of dowel. Just make sure your washer's fit over the dowel. 😁

    I was thinking of coating large metal washers with fancy nail polish to make my own weights for patterns; however, your idea of using fabric is better. I could make large fabric yo-yos to fit over the washers (and use shank buttons as centers to cover the holes in the yo-yos). Adding the buttons should make the yo-yo covered washers look more like fabric flowers. The nail polish should smooth any spurs left on the washers; and, nail polish should prevent the cut sides of the washers from rusting. Making yo-yos from my scrap fabric will help reduce my big scrap pile (and use up some of the buttons I have removed from garments through the years).

    isn't E Wood just wonderful to watch, i enjoy her videos as well, i also made my dress form, asked the man in my life how'd he'd feel about privacy , duct tape & trash bags lol. then used that form as a pattern to cut cheap screening mesh with coat hangers . stuffed & stitched , chose to make it a hang from the top form so it can be used for pants & is also sturdy enough from use of coat hangers to make heavier items

      She definitely is! 🥰 I love the idea of a hanging dress form - that might be something I will explore in the future! Thank you for sharing 😊

      Thank you! 😊💖 Me too! Of course certain things I leave to others, but when it comes to sewing I prefer making things over buying them.

    Why make a pressing cloth. Use a spare tea towel

    • @missmatti
      @missmatti  3 роки тому +3

      Good idea! I would just make sure the tea towel isn’t too thick because majority of my tea towels wouldn’t be suitable as pressing cloths.

    Does an ironing board cover count as a sewing tool? I can never find one at a store that I like, so I always make mine out of nicer fabric that is prettier and longer lasting than storebought.

    • @missmatti
      @missmatti  3 роки тому +5

      I would consider an ironing board cover as a helpful sewing tool. Majority of the tools in my video were all related to pressing 😅 anyway I fully with you! I never find any ironing board covers I like either.

    You are still buying; materials to make them. More expensive to make since you are buying labor tools to make them... Cheaper buying them already made, not buy labor materials to make them with.

      In some instances this might be true. But saving money is only one reason you might consider making instead of buying. The sustainability aspect is big for me as most of these things were made by upcycled materials or fabric scraps. Another reason might be to make the items just as you like them like my pressing board and tailor's ham for example. Personally, I also enjoy making things more than buying things - but of course if you prefer to buy them by all means do! These are just suggestions 😊

      Only saying. At one time you had bought all those materials so you can make things. You never get them for free. You are only using extras you still have not used yet. That's all
