    😀 This was so fun to do this refashion with you Matilda! I adore the way you played with the pleats and ruffles to create this wonderful no waste refashion, it's such an inspiring creation! ❤

      Yay, thank you! 😍 I totally I agree I had so much fun doing this refashion with you too! 💖Btw I have been thinking that my sleeves and your back reminds me of details on 19th century gowns.

      @@missmatti - the slipped clip "failure" was really the challenge's greatest victory. You showed us how to overcome with grace very real mistakes that happen. Brava, ladies!!!

    Your blouse is stunning, award winning. I would proudly make and wear such a top.
    I am in Texas, USA and last winter we had a historic freeze. While confined to our ranch house I deconstructed and refashioned two pairs of my husband's work jeans to fit me. I unpicked every seam, saved everything, and reused all of it including the zipper, belt loops, button, even some of the thread. I wear them regularly and am so proud of them. The challenge of a refashion is actually more rewarding than cutting up yardage from the fabric shop.
    Congratulations to both you and Evelyn for your garments and your encouragement 🧵.

      First of all thank you for all your kind words! 🥰 I heard about your historic freeze. When i was in Texas in February 2018 there was a cold spell as well. I had looked forward to enjoy a bit of warmer climate than the Canadian winter, but no! Haha... all the Texans were so apologetic to me 😄
      But I understood last winter was way worse and I am glad you could entertain yourself refashioning your husbands old work jeans and reuse as much of the material as possible! Well done! 👍🏻

    The gathering technique to make the back and front pieces smaller is brilliant!

    Well done, hon. I wore a lot of similar pieces in the eighties, you really captured the fun we had refashioning our handmedown pieces back in the day.

      Thank you! Glad you liked it! 😄 There were definitely some similar blouses & shirts to this one in the 80s and I must have sub-concisely been thinking about them whilst making this refashion. 😛

    I watched both of your and Evelyn's videos. You are both so inspiring. I was truly excited to see Miss Mattie uses a Jenome sewing machine. I have a Jenome I love.

    I think you both won. Two different styled beautiful blouses from men's (buttons down, long sleeved) shirts. Wonderful. No one ever told me to baste stitch gathers in small sections before (to make gathering easier and more even). Both of the remakes in this event turned out beautiful (and fit their designer/maker very well). As I said in my comments after watching Evelyn's video, "This was more fun than watching a University of Kentucky basketball game." Thank you for making this so much fun and educational.
    Here, many piecers and sewers are dropping their loose threads and very small scraps into pillow cases. When the pillow cases are full enough they are sewen closed and given to "No Kill" animal shelters (to be used as beding for dogs(. I put mine out (in the spring) for the wild birds to use in making their nest. To me, it is fun to watch the little piles of threads and scraps disappear over time.

    • @leannwhite620
      @leannwhite620 3 роки тому +1

      And find them later in an open nest or end of year birdhouse clean out! I do this with pet hair brush wads poked into a spiral metal holder made from scrap wire twisted together.

    • @missmatti
      @missmatti  3 роки тому +3

      Thank you! I am so glad you liked both of our refashions 💖 I loved your comment under Evelyn's video! My friend said also you left the best comment 😄
      I have heard about people using fabric scraps & thread tails to make dog beds in animal shelter, but I have never thought of the bird nesting idea! I bet it is fun to watch the scrap pile slowly disappear 😁

    I’m a subscriber to Evelyn Wood’s channel and I saw 👀 her post and I am glad that u guys made this challenge u both did AMAZING 🤩 I am definitely subscribing to ur channel as well right now I’m in the middle of making me a dress for my birthday in 13 days but celebrating it on my brothers birthday on the 10th so I need to finish it first because I’m disabled and have severe carpal tunnel and arthritis pain so it takes me 5xs longer to do a project but when I’m done I’m definitely going to try to do the challenge thank you

    • @missmatti
      @missmatti  3 роки тому +1

      Yay! 🤩 Thank you! 😊Good luck making your birthday dress! I can imagine it being tough sewing with both carpal tunnel and arthritis pain. But as you probably already know work a little every day and take breaks often. I have suffered from carpal tunnel before (so frustrating when you just want to make!) and I found it helps with stretches and hand massage (+ taking breaks often.)

    Well done! So clever to reuse those little offcuts for making ruffle trims for the cuffs and collar. You have really taken refashioning to the next level. Super inspiring! I'm going to watch Evelyn's video now, and go and get my copy of "the art of manipulating fabric" from the bookshelf. I'm also looking forward to the next video, because I'm working on a floor pillow (full of scraps!) too! 😁

      Thanks so much! 😊You will definitely not regret checking out Evelyn's video. 😉 I was so amazed seeing what she did to her shirt! I am looking forward to seeing what you will create with your shirts, as well as how your floor pillows will turn out! 😄Btw, I will have to chat with you about the floor pillow construction ideas that I have.

    Love the outcome of both creations! It was fun to watch the different processes. I really like how you made your own labels. Can you tell me what you use to make your vinyl labels and what type of heat transfer vinyl you use? I'm a new fan!

    • @missmatti

      Glad you enjoyed it! 🤩❤️ Of course, I got a mix of different brands of HTV in my stash. Some of them are Cricut-brand and some of them are not and I bought all of those from Amazon. I think the ones I used for this label is from a brand called VVIViD V2 - which is a good brand of HTV if you ask me.

    I like the way, you played around with pleats and ruffles. Cute way, to make a typical men's shirt more feminine looking. I do think though, the very wide arms and boxy torso together overwhelm your slender figure a little. Although I guess, you could always just wear it with a belt, if you wanted to. I could also see this cropped even shorter and maybe ending with some sort of tie situation. But that's the fun thing with refashions, every project gives you new ideas for the next one...

    • @missmatti
      @missmatti  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! They are all great ideas! 😄As you say one idea can lead to another especially when refashioning! I have found a lot of zero waste designs tend to be on the wider side like this shirt. I guess it is because you often need to work with squares to not waste any fabric. I am planning to look into making less boxy zero waste designs in the future - that will be another design challenge for sure! 😉

    Your work is technical and clear. Good job. You use a word incorrectly the same way as many native English speakers. The word is unpick. Un means not, so unpick means not pick. I think it comes from using the word undo, which is correct.
