His monologue as he freed himself from that unbearable weight, struggling also under the weight of saving his aunt, are gripping and amazing even now. The mystique of Spider-Man and so many other characters were born in the mind and hands of Steve Ditko.
Tevya Smolka On a positive side, he left a lot of work behind. I was introduced to Ditko in the Batman Animated Series episode of The Creeper of all places back in the late 90s.
Steve Ditko has met with some people over the last few years of his life; the BBC wrlter\producer of In Search of Steve Ditko had met & talked with him at Ditko's studio.The producer was surprised at Ditko's sense of humor & his knowledge of the current industry.

As an over imaginative kid growing up in the 70's, nobody's work served to take me elsewhere in quite the same way that his did. It still has the same effect on me today that it did back then. You were one of a kind Mr. Ditko, RIP.

Writing this on New Years Eve 2018, it bothers me in hindsight looking back at the terrible events of the past year that when Steve Ditko died, every headline read "co-creator of Spider-Man", but when Stan Lee died, they read "creator of Spider-Man". In my opinion, a proper creator credit for Spider-Man would read "created by Steve Ditko with Stan Lee and Jack Kirby".
Spiderman's popularity and book sales grew significantly after Ditko left the book and was replaced by Romita Sr. So while maybe some Marvel fans may have been upset, ultimately people supported Peter Parker's evolution and direction the character was going in. Still though, Ditko is a legendary artist and will be missed. RIP Steve Ditko
Chris Sousa personally its the logical evolution. I mean 38 issues is a little over 3 years of this character that he eventually had to grew out of certain nerdy and timid characteristics. The issue is that comics have to evolve and reboot often (maybe not too often) or else you're stuck in the past and the future keeps coming and people will be in the future.
For sure, even when you look into it, there are plenty of things that carried over from Ditko's run onto others like the "Parker Luck" , women being attracted to him like Betty Brandt and his relationship with Aunt May. The real reason why Peter Parker was a better looking guy was purely because of Romita's art style, he was known for his romance books at the time. Characters do have to grow to some degree and the evolution that Peter Parker went through, (like you said) was a logical one, and one that was proven successful

Y'know, as much as I love Ditko's Spidey, my love of comics started in the early 70s with the Marvel monster reprints, and it's there and in his shit-ton of 50s/60s Charlton stories that you see how frigging inventive he was as a storyteller. I know Eisner was a strong influence on him and, boy, does it show. He eventually evolved into the 9-panel grid-which wasn't his invention; Kirby used it too-but with both men it wasn't until my adult years that I realized how good they were at what I call, for lack of a better word, "invisible" storytelling. Meaning you don't notice the panels themselves, just what's in them; and even then, while you can't help but notice how good the drawing is, you're not necessarily focusing on composition or how one panel leads to another or how well the page as a whole is designed because everything flows so seamlessly from one panel to the next that your eye is simply pulled along with no distractions to take you out of the story aside from "that's a cool Spidey pose" or "this dimension looks so weird." But aside from the things mentioned in the video, maybe the biggest innovation for me with the original Spider-Man is the sheer, non-stop, unabashed SOAP OPERA quality of the stories and characters. EVERYBODY had their moments. EVERYTHING that happened was connected to and led into other events. ALL the characters interacted with each other. You couldn't WAIT to see what was coming next because there were always multiple storylines going on with drama and action and humor and romance and you wanted to know how it was all gonna play out. I've never read or heard if either Lee or Ditko were soap fans, but given that Steve was basically not talking to Stan at the end and mailing in completed pages sight unseen-again mirroring Kirby and for much the same reasons-I can only assume the renowned recluse was sitting in front of his black-and-white TV watching the Guiding Light or As the World Turns while drawing what was happening next to good ol' Peter Parker or jolly Jonah Jameson or the poor, ailing, ever-concerned Aunt May. At least, that's my fantasy and I'm sticking to it.
If you are a fan, you should do your homage just like anyone else, good job. One under rated character was the Destructor for Atlas Seaboard, plus other work for that company like what he did on Tiger Man and Morlock 2000.
It's also widely believed Ditko created the "Red and Gold" color scheme for Iron Man and the more streamlined look which came from it. Another departure from Kirby's "Walking Tin Can" of the Mark I / Mark II armors.

Steve was my favorite artist, not the best, though definitely a figure I took inspiration from. His character designs were always a delight to behold,' his ideas were so imaginative; his dedication to his work was admirable; and his unclentching belief into his ideals, while annoying at times, created many great stories and character moments. I personally really love his Charlton work, with Ted Kord being my personal favorite character of all time. It really saddens me however how so many people are treating his passing, with many people not even recognizing the name, and misreading the name as Steve Rodgers. I'm not even kidding, people even made the "I don't wanna go" joke with him as the punchline. The worst offender was when a Popular UA-camr, who makes content about Spider-Man PS4, decided to post this on twitter "Even though the loss of Steve Ditko is a heartbreaking one, there is a bright side. #SpiderManPS4 officially releases in EXACTLY TWO MONTHS!!! Everyone in The **Classified** knows you'll do Steve proud ." essentailly turning the death of Steve Ditko into an advertisement for a game, while doesn't have any tangible affiliation with, he makes money off of speculation videos based around the game, and has created an entire community of people who seemingly will defended him through all, even situations like this where he used the the death of a Great Icon to sell a game. The person who said this did apologize, though it does represent how the general public, and even the comic community, take for granted the talent and work of Mr Ditko. To quote Ted Kord, "When you think of me, please remember to Smile", Bye Steve, Thanks for making me the man I am today.

Not sure if that's an actual Jack Kirby drawing / prototype of Spider-Man. I believe that is a artist concept of what they think it might have looked like I don't know if they're is one that exist. I know Steve ditko had some sketches that Jack Kirby had drawn of Spider-Man that gloves and more of a Captain America look and he threw them away he was actually quoted in later years as saying he regretted throwing them away.
Think of the character description being read in the complaint letter, then please re-think Spiderman Homecoming......"not my spiderman"..... Ditko rules!
