@@unnamed6595 It’s not underrated. It’s just overlooked. Never seen anyone say it’s bad. People just don’t know about it. Remember renting it in the 80’s and it was always a solid choice to occupy you for a weekend.
I used to play this game with my grandpa when I was a kid. We called it "thumb smoke" because your thumbs were usually smoking by the time you finished it. Thanks for the good memories.
I found Mr. Arcus via Summoning Salt. You play a ton of great games from our childhood. I'm so glad I found this one. I've been looking for a decent playthrough of this game. It was one of my favorites as a kid. Thank you sir!
Yeah. Ninja Gaiden is his game where he holds the record. I'm not only impressed at him being the record holder for Ninja Gaiden but the sheer number of NES games he has beaten rather quickly nonetheless.
When i was i kid, i was turned off by the graphics of this game when i saw the box art. I didnt know there were horses in the game. I thought those were the characters' legs. Didn't play this until years later
Arcus is surely one of the best streamers what I have ever followed and i just hope you will never get retired from the games or I will start crying :D
Masterful....just masterful! I love your videos my man! You are one of the best speed runners I've ever seen. Gun smoke is near and dear to my heart. I've never gotten past level 5, but after watching this video, I'm confident that I can finish the entire game. Proper utilization of horses. That's what I picked up from this video. That's the key! Great job!
I loved this arcade game as a kid in the 80's! I can't even count the weeks I used my lunch money to go to the local arcade after school. Before school I would fill my back pack full of snacks to eat at lunch time. I was one of the first kids in my local arcade group to beat this game. Did so with $4.50 after I learned the patterns and enemy movements.
Hey bud this was the one game that drove me nuts playing as a kid still can't beat it. Plus I've watched several games over the past few days and dig the style mash mash mash clunk how ever you gotta do it keep it up. Watching you reminds me if my little cousins watching me play games. My first game was Bump N' Jump ! 👍👍
Always loved Western games, been playing Red Dead 2 and I remember playing this game when I was a child, had to take a look again for memories. Great run.
Awesome mustache, nice speedrun , and good game , i can never get pass the 3rd boss when i was a kid, so glad now i know how this game end ! Thanks for bringing back the nostalgia.
Watching Arcus play video games is like watching a pro guitar player, playing guitar. We can all pick up a guitar and strum the strings. Just like we can all pick up a controller and play a video game. It takes a true master to play games like Arcus plays them. It is through hard work and massive hours. No one picks these things up and are just this good at them. Sure there is a God given gift that can give someone an edge on skills in the world. I just don't like taking away from all the hard work and countless hours these people put into their craft! Video game playing at this level is a craft. It is a skill.
Yooooooo this game pissed me off so bad as a kid. Can't remember which boss I couldn't get past but I'll finally get to see the rest of the game 🙌 edit: after watching the run it was the chief at 11:09 I couldn't get past 🙄
@@Kwaj oh Capcom definitely won the war. Took over 30 years, but they did whwn Disney used the Moon Theme from the Ducktales game, in the new Ducktales show. As far as Konami goes, they almost had it, but they kinda cheated because they used a certain audio chip in their Japan released games, and I heard they put it in Bayou Billy. As much as I love Capcom, that first stage song in Bayou Billy, is still my overall favorite 8bit NES song, but I do find myself listening to more 8bit NES Capcom songs.
You represent Arizona very well my friend. Been watching you for years and always wondered if you were from Arizona or New Mexico. Had to be one or the other. And thanks for helping me dramatically improve my gaiden times.
First time I finished game using countinous pausing with start button. 6th level was especially hard because I couldn’t find WANTED. Bought it in the end. However now I also playing with game genie beacause fun 😀
Shooting straight forward in this game was such a pain. And could they have picked a more obnoxious background for the final battle? White bricks, when the bullets are white orbs?
What are the chances that I just finished watching the summoning salt commenting on your Ninja Gaiden speedrunning. Then I didn't even know you speed ran this and I just searched Gunsmoke speedrun and I see you! Goodshit
just did a 25.07 myself. Too many subweapon changes cost me, but I logged a deathless. Thought I beat you till I timed it. Back to the drawing board I guess.
Anyone know there is a game that looks like gun smoke but the main dude dresses in himation (ancient greece clothes) and he also wield ranged weapons? P/s: not PS1 Hercules
It's probably really hard to shave a whole minute off this game, as it auto-scrolls, so the only real gain you can get is from flawless boss tactics. It's more fun to speedrun games where you aren't forced to sit through long portions of auto-scrolling, nor is it particularly enthralling to watch, so few bother.
Finally the cowboy is playing a cowboy game, great run Arcus
I clicked on the vid only for this comment.
Good combination ndvmp
This is one of the most underrated nes games
Totally agree
Why???

I feel like all overhead shooters are. Twin Cobra is the best shooter on the NES and no one mentions it.
Isnt it the same game as Commando, just for cowboys?
I used to play this game with my grandpa when I was a kid. We called it "thumb smoke" because your thumbs were usually smoking by the time you finished it. Thanks for the good memories.
Lol. Luckily, i had controller with a rapid fire button.
I love that Ninjas were so much the thing in the 80s that they even put them in a game about the Old West :D
9:42 “We are on your side”
Then proceeds to price gouge you $20000 for a gun
Doesn’t even give you ammunition either

Always excited when I get a notification that you posted a run.

One of my favorite games growing up
This game really brings me back, great run!
I like the added humming and whistling to the music you did. Adds a nice soothing presence to the video and music.

The arcade is longer and more brutal than the nes version. I played a lot this game in the nes era
Thanks for reminding me again how much I stuck at nes games
You are the best Arcus. #1
Sad that I missed this live, thanks for uploading on youtube!
Aww yes, the Tucson stage. Where I live :). Great run!
Always loved Western games, been playing Red Dead 2 and I remember playing this game when I was a child, had to take a look again for memories. Great run.

Same here. Don't think I ever made it past the third stage.
Real Cowboy Vs. Bad Cowboys
Losing the horse always made me sad as a kid :(
Same. Takes a bullet for you, and the screen just pushes things along. Never enough time to mourn.

As a kid, I thought you had to buy the posters in some levels. I didn’t say I was a smart kid.
Hey look he is playing himself.
This game still stresses me out!
Basically sunset riders prequel.
Arcus playing with Arcus, I love your videos bro
Man I loved this game when I was a kid!!
crazy how these vids all look like they were filmed recently. even crazier how long arcus has been speedrunning nes games.
Not Lone Ranger. Marshal Matt Dillon from the TV show Gun Smoke. The Lone Ranger was something else.
Yooooooo this game pissed me off so bad as a kid. Can't remember which boss I couldn't get past but I'll finally get to see the rest of the game 🙌 edit: after watching the run it was the chief at 11:09 I couldn't get past 🙄
See, I woulda did a speedrun of this, but it's soundtrack is just too amazing for words.
(Capcom vs Konami: 8bit NES music war)

I'm from AZ and don't think I've ever seen a cowboy lol.
That was literally impossible, Game Genies are awesome. They shot 20K bullets in 360* and you didn't get hit once.
You have my respect! I can’t beat this game without a Game Genie!
First time I finished game using countinous pausing with start button. 6th level was especially hard because I couldn’t find WANTED. Bought it in the end. However now I also playing with game genie beacause fun 😀
Can’t help but imagine Arcus roaming the plains with six shooters on his waist.. Cross him and get speedran
I love this game, remember that I have never finished it. here he is speed running it like drinking a cup of coffee
Even though I never beat lvl3 I absolutely loved this game back in the day.
Excellent play through! That was great. Subbing now
This was my favorite game as a kid on the nes
Best in the West NES Game Ever!!! I always loved the song 🎵 ❤️ Joystick style was cool like 👍🏽 EXCELLENT WORK 💯
Also, a cowboy playing a game as a cowboy against other cowboys? It's like a subliminal game genie code.
The music and SFX are giving me bionic commando vibes.
Gunsmoke. Fuck yeah. I remember this one. Gotta find them wanted posters ASAP
and here we go!
I loved this game. Jackel was really cool to
One of the hardest games I've played. Finished it only on emulator with save state. :)
I've gotten to Level 4 and can't get through it. Great job!
Wow! If I remember this game back in the days means I'm OLD! I liked this game back when blockbuster barely started their business days!
One of my favorites - awesome game
Hicksville lmao so glad I remember this game
Arcus for President of the world
Gogo! "A good bzzt" :D I thought the bzzt was reserved for Ninja Gaiden bosses! Man, you are something else!
Arcus dresses like the game's protagonist, and looks like the shopkeep, minus the hat of course.
Read dead revolver (spiritual successor being read dead redemption) was initially made by capcom as a spiritual successor to this game.
considero gun Smoke um dos melhores jogos do nes
"That's A Good Bzzzzt--" *Andrew Dice Glay Interrupts* "OH!!~"
Loved this game of course I had the max controller with the turbo buttons
Man, it was easy to make money in the wild west.
"YOURE NUMBER 9! YOURE NUMBER 9!!"
How do you speedrun on a slow walking game lol
I want to see an R-Type speedrun!
Wow. This game was da bomb. Memories
動物と人を大切しろ!愛新持栄隊総館超久保田勉ゲーム新大臣!会社・行政改革大臣!安全・自殺対策大臣!仕事対策大臣!規制緩和大臣!地方活性化大臣!平和維持!
Shooting straight forward in this game was such a pain.

Such memories this game and its music bring back.
Love it, man!
just did a 25.07 myself. Too many subweapon changes cost me, but I logged a deathless. Thought I beat you till I timed it. Back to the drawing board I guess.
All the bullets stress me out. This gets harder to watch the further along you get!
This game was fun with the NES Max controller
Amazing the difference between these games back in the day was they were harder than Most Halos,Dooms and call of dutys.
I've never gotten past devil hawk, this gave me anxiety.
Красавчик, спасибо за видео!
Of course, Arcus would dominate this game...
Hicksville haha. I love my childhood.
what controller are you using
Anyone know there is a game that looks like gun smoke but the main dude dresses in himation (ancient greece clothes) and he also wield ranged weapons?
P/s: not PS1 Hercules
Driving me crazy! What is “Messer smash”?
Awesome! You play so well that the game looks easy, but it wasnt at all. Have you tried Ikari Warriors?
A B B A
I never beat this game
What do the cow skulls do in this game?
They reduce your walking speed and your guns’ range
Wow, why hasn't he come back to this? He has a real chance of challenging the WR. Less than a minute off.
It's probably really hard to shave a whole minute off this game, as it auto-scrolls, so the only real gain you can get is from flawless boss tactics.

That's a new world Record.
What was a good CLUNK
Have you ever played kid chameleon?
Loved this game :D
They have to make a movie
The mexico, Saludos Amigo;🤠🤠🐎🐎🐄🐄🥑🥑🕹🕹🎮🎮State of the Michoacán:⛲ You hare genius retro gámes. 🎠🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
Its you are in game!
Are you playing on an NES or an emulator?
Just needed one day of Rest! Just like God ! @sarix5
this game truly cowboy :) super fun and not easy
Reminds me of ikari warriors imho an underrated game also.
That game had lots of ports from arcade-version. NES-version is just insanely tedious while C64-version is actually fun.
Amazing :)
You look like the shop owner of this game.
Great job Kemosabe
This game SCREAMS Bionic Commando 😂
