- Kingdom Death Monster Lantern Year 4 of my first settlement. This is episode 6 of what I hope will be a complete play through. This episode involves fighting the Butcher, and the settlement phase of lantern year 5. This is a people of the lantern campaign. I have added other expansions to the game and will continue to do so to change up the game play or if someone requests it. This is a fight against a level 1 butcher. We spend some resources we saved from the last lantern year and have our first visit from the hooded knight. This is a crazy settlement phase.

LOL, right?! Those moments where you need to take a breath and mourn the very sucky thing that just happened in this game.
The fact that you got that lucky with drawing lantern hunger that much was insane everyone surviving with no severe injuries what a great fight every playthrough ive watched on this fight thus far has always been . . . Devastating good to it shown how its done lol yeah im gonna get destroyed when i get my set 😂😂😂

I know I don't need to say it but Lantern Hunger dooms the survivors so that 3 misses and a dodge would be 3 misses and a hit - oh you caught that

Enjoyed this (you did forget about infectious lunacy for the whole fight but that is both a blessing and a curse). My head hurts trying to figure out Bows and arrows for this game. From what I have gathered you do indeed use the range of the bow when firing an arrow but you wouldn't get the accuracy bonus from slowing the bow as the arrow has it's own accuracy, strength and damage stats? Also sounds like Poots is going to nerf the bow in future (bringing the damage down to 1)
That was a mistake. I address that in the next episode if I recall correctly. Word on the street is that the bow will be reduced to 1 Strength, you are correct. The way that I have always played it (and there is mixed opinion on this within the community) is that the bow does indeed have both ranges as you determine the range before the attack. This then gives the attack +4 accuracy. The wording of this reads +4 accuracy and not 4+ accuracy. The position of the + sign is important as that makes it not a bow modifier but an attack modifier. If it read 4+ accuracy then the arrow would not use the bow's new accuracy. This is important because the arrow itself is not a ranged weapon, and thus when you shoot an arrow while on a giant stone face you do not gain the "+2 range +2 accuracy". (Notice the placement of the + sign again here, it does not make the bow 2+ accuracy) Arrows will use range 9 because that is the range of the bow at the time. This then modifies the attack. You then use the weapon profile on the arrow to resolve the attack. (1/6/6) In this case, they are not deadly and do not benefit from bow specialization and mastery. This really should be a very simple thing to resolve on Twitter, but for some reason, he has never cleared this up. With the amount of in-house playtesting, you would also think the rules around bows and arrows would be very clean by now. I also hate the bow and arrow thing, I know there will be times this season where I accidentally apply deadly to the arrow, so that will happen. I can think of two times beyond this where I have to address it in the intro. This is a problem with playing a physical copy and not using app assistance. I track deadly by modifying my temporary sheets with counters. (I think by this point I have done the episode where I show how I solo track everything) Eventually, I figure out a better tracking method.
@@BraMithra told you bows make my head hurt, thanks for that detailed insight, I'll need to reference that in future. I agree that grey areas should be easily cleared up in a FAQ (I love Gloomhaven for the precise wording and that Isaac does tend to clear things up when required).

Sometimes it strangely gives you plot armor and helps your dice rolls.
My level 1 Butcher encounter was absolutely brutal!!! Your AI deck was much more forgiving. Lol. Good fight though.
I love the Butcher. I think it is a very good first nemesis as it acts as a pretty good learning experience. The first nemesis being a straightforward killing machine is a good design choice as it focuses more on the damage output that is possible from a monster, rather than some gimmick trait. It has low accuracy and really emphasizes power evasion and positioning has. With all that said, you are 100% correct, the deck can make the difficulty very swingy. Getting all the really strong cards back to back will overly show how much of a killing machine the Butcher can be.

On the hooded knight the blue lantern and the cloak is that from an expansion, maybe I have never been lucky enough but can't recall these items...
They are from Allison the Twilight Knight White Box. They make the event slightly better.

I do forget this, but hopefully, I correct the mistakes in the next episode. It has been a while since I did these episodes. I do not see another comment mentioning it, so you could have been the first to notice this. Great catch!
