If you play sanctuary backwards it says "I need more affection than you know", and they included it as lyrics in this cover!
That’s because in Japan they read from right to left . That was intended .

Wow. I finally get this song. The singer is giving an ultimatum: Participate in a mature relationship with me or it's over. I can't stand pretending to love you in that superficial way any more.
Weirdly enough that's almost the exact same message as Don't Think Twice. Basically, take this seriously or we're done.
That's also the message of "Simple and Clean"
Wow, Kingdom Hearts really was just a giant relationship metaphor the entire time, huh?
Think it like this:
Each song describes romance in different stages in life
Simple and Clean gives more of a childish "first love" vibe, in which romance is confusing and you hope that getting older will help you understand it better, tho', you still want to be with that person
Sanctuary seems to then be more like a teen love, or at least young adult, the transition from a superficial "I like you" to...well... "I need true emotion", also interesting how "I need more affection than you know" is backwards, probably a reference to how understanding each others feelings can be difficult sometimes, or that expressing those feelings is the difficult part...hell, maybe both
Then Don't Think Twice and Face My Fears both seems to deal with the same idea of letting all those previous apreensions fade away, the japanese version seems to be alude a way more to marriage in the lyrics, so maybe that's kinda of the closing of the story being told

Legit playing the game with this playing rn, sad this didn't make the game but we got this cover.
Some people did not like that Sora got in smash.Think about it.They were mad that one of the biggest crossover character got accepted in one of the biggest crossover games ever.

Sanctuary holds a very special place in my heart because kh2 was the first game in the series I played and I played it during my formative year. This cover takes me right back to those days. Amazing work!

Well, that's probably because "screamo" isn't rock. That's Metal. Keep in mind I'm not saying this is bad in any way, but you're implying that because people choose to make this song heavy, it's not well done. Just because it doesn't fit what you want, doesn't mean it's bad.

Bro. This lead singer is so talented. His vocal tone and pitch never falters or wavered once in this cover, not to mention his vibrato adlibs in the held notes he belts out are gorgeous! And he’s singing a cover for a FEMALE artist and can keep the same pitch and beautiful tone to boot is honestly astonishing. All this and also being a huge metal/rock fan, this blew my fucking mind when I heard it and I proceeded to listen to it like 10 times in a row it was so good lol. Amazing work and keep it up because this is how covers are done! Rock on! 🤟🏻🤟🏻

This is one of the best covers of Sanctuary I’ve seen. KH games always have an outstanding OST but KH2 has some of the best songs in the franchise
I like his voice, sanctuary or passion is a hard song to do. It's the closest than others. Has the right kind of emotion. Haven't seen a female vocalist cover really pull it off
There’s tons that pull it off and do the Japanese lyrics as well as the English lyrics still having the raw emotion poured into it.

I think this song is about an iffy relationship. The person the singer refers to is touch and go with the relationship, not being as serious as our singer. And now the singer is giving them an ultimatum, give me more love, more affection, or leave
It takes on something else entirely, and it's pretty amazing actually. The word sanctuary referring to what the singer envisions it to be, a perfect balance they want to achieve. They want their sanctuary from their lover. They express that they love them and want it to work with "In you and I there is a new land" "Fears and lies melt away" "Music will tie"
But something I notice about the difference between Utada's Sanctuary and Dusk's Sanctuary is that Utada's follows a sort of hidden want for the sanctuary, the reversed "I need more affection" and "I need true emotion" are signs of what Utada wants, they don't want to speak directly to their lover, they want it to come to them on their, but also because Utada is afraid to give the ultimatum so cleanly and clearly.
But Dusk isn't, Dusk says it outright, toward their lover. They don't like feeling one-sided, and they want their partner to know that, thus the guitar and the heavier drop, as well as the fact that the words are no longer reversed. The meaning is not hidden, or in the back of the mind, it is infront of you. Presented to you.
But for all I know this is unintended and they just wanted to sing one of our favorite kingdom hearts openings. But this is what I took from it. My two cents as it were.
