After working on the Cadillac in Ian's shop, Ian Roussel was feeling the need to change up some stuff in his Full Custom Garage. He fabbed the passenger door to prove the concept. What do you think?
There are no rules in car customization, and if there was a rule it would be to go as far outside of the box as your fabrication skills can take you. Ian envisioned a simple and radical solution to this style of door opening. He walks himself and Jamie through the process, with pretty satisfying results. This is only the beginning. The backstory...
Ian has decided to lower this VW Beetle 6 inches to get it to the ground and start radically modifying this beat up 1968 VW Beetle, but like most things that were once going to find the fate of the crusher, he once again proves you can do some amazing things in your garage with some imagination, fearlessness and a willingness to make mistakes as you create. 🥴
His fascination stems from the seemingly limitless customization opportunities for this vehicle. Join Ian on a wild ride through his mind 👽 as he envisions then fabricates his most radical ideas to date.
Ian worked and studied at a bronze casting foundry as a young man, where he learned to create models, armatures, molds and finished sculptural artwork in all mediums and finishes. Ian is fascinated by the artistic process of sculpture. He brings this knowledge to his car customizations, to his TV show audience, and now he brings it to you, his growing UA-cam audience.

Very creative show -- pluss at the end of your custom work your cars actually hit the road ! I have allso watched Bad Chad custom … But all he dose is to fill his new shed with with cars that never get to be driven !
I do not like Bad Chad. I tried to watch it, BUT. So, no more B C for me...
I prefer both they both do there own thing I don't sit and compare
Not defending Chad's coathanger welds, hockey tape seam sealer, or foil tape holding card board door panels.
But, Canada's vehicle inspection is very strict not like the US or California especially. We here can just take paperwork down and get it registered.
I kind of like bad Chad because of his creativeness, but I will be honest that sometimes the outcome of some of his vehicles are a little bit weird, but I suppose that is in the eye of the beholder. Take care of yourself.

Having watched you work on your projects over the years, I think this presentation here on the tubes is the best yet. You give us the impression that you wing a lot of the design But I'm really impressed by the production of each video clip. I think it's just as good, if not better, than when you had a full production company behind you. The editing is spot on and concise in what is being shown. It's not often we get to see great content with the production so good, we don't even notice it. Awesome sauce, to you two. And thanks.

On the door opening... instead of grease cut groove in both sides with ball bearing to roll. Like a bearing delay or roller delay on a MP5 (firearm)
Jamie, your filming is amazing. You follow Ian around with such grace sometimes not even knowing where he is going and then back again. Ian Your fabrications are all one offs and one of a kind. Going to a car show with one of these. Get ready to be swarmed.

The soundtrack is so fitting. Just a great vibe and not distracting from the work itself, it’s going to be another great success
A trick I learned. Order some 1" neodymian magnets with countersink screw holes in the middle. Put a 1-1/2" screw through the center and double-nut it. (this serves as a handle). Use them to hold two pieces of sheet metal parallel to each other. Works really good. The screw makes them very easy to put on and take off.....just sayin.

Surf music always works when working on the VW, Jamie. Great choice on your part. I can almost hear the surf!
That door looks light enough, but instead of the sliders you have now, how about some heavy duty industrial full extension drawer glides? They would roll out super smooth.
I absolutely love that hinge design! One thing though, I think it would help a lot if you used bearings instead of metal on metal contact for the "hinge arm" im gonna call it.

I am a carpenter by trade. I do everything tho I'm a general. But I grew up doing this stuff as a kid my dad had a race car in the 9os. And I was always in the shop. We also had a mechanic shop when I was younger that burnt down when I was just a kid
