The theme of this medley was 'The Capitol Years' (though that can't be taken too literally - see asterixs) and quotes (not always literally) arrangements by Nelson Riddle, Billy May and others. I point to the original LPs being referenced.

Personally I prefer and get much enjoyment out of these purely instrumental arrangements. No disrespect to the vocalists.
Fathoming Fables Yes, I have to agree there with you on that. The vocalists are okay, but no match for the great ones from the fifties. The instrumental soloists are much more authentic sounding in that respect.

Vocalists are variable in quality. The less good ones can make you cringe.
The melody at 5'30 is Nature boy made famous by Nat King Cole now theres a singer and a half, imagined him and Wilson????

Beautiful! The arrangement of Come Rain or Come Shine was inspired by Nelson Riddle's score for Judy Garland's spectacular version. And the trombone in What's New took me back to Don Lusher's glory days with Ted Heath and his Music.

We have had some great trombonists over the years, Don Lusher, Roy Williams and up there with them, Gordon Campbell. Great technique and sound.
