    Since I promised to update you on the members per album, here it goes:
    During this album the members were Ryan Ross (lyricist, guitarist and some vocals), Brendon Urie (Main vocalist), Spencer Smith (Drums) and a new addition to the band Jon Walker (bassist). Jon replaced the previous bassist.
    Pretty.Odd is the album that marks the beginning of one of the biggest thing in Panic!. I'll tell you this because if you do these in order that will help you compare the other album.
    In 2009, lyricist and guitarist Ryan Ross and bassist Jon Walker split ways with the other two. This is something that you can notice in the other Panic! albums. It's quite evident in the next album (Vice and Virtues) due to lyrics sounding different and the sound. The departure of the 2 members is something you can look in to in the next albums.
    The split left Brendon Urie quite depressed for a long period in time.
    Also "fun" fact:
    Brendon Urie/Panic! haven't performed Northern Downpour since 2011. Ever since the spilt Brendon has not been able to perform it live without crying
    Also I'm pretty sure that guitarist Ryan Ross has mentioned that he wrote Northern Downpour for Brendon Urie and possibly Spencer Smith

      Rosa Murtonen Poor Brendon 🙁 Northern Downpour is my favorite song on the album, it's too bad they no longer play it live

    • @MFPReacts
      @MFPReacts  5 років тому +6

      Thank you so much for taking the time to write this up! Pretty sad story there 😔 I wonder what led to Ryan and Jon splitting from the band. In most cases, these things have to do with creative differences, but if so, I wonder what those differences are/were. The band’s music must mean a lot to Brendon for him to continue performing under the Panic! name

    • @rodan9769
      @rodan9769 5 років тому +18

      @@MFPReacts the official reason stated was creative differences as you said. I believe it was that Ryan and Jon wanted to continue with this kind of sound (as shown in their future band The Young Veins) and Spencer and Brendon wanted to do a different sound. There is a chance that there was a lot more to it a) Brendon's depression b) him and Spencer crying during Northern Downpour. I genuinely think that when they spilt, they split as friends (as much as they could) but the pressure of the industry and fans (some fans did really shitty things) caused them to rift so much to the level that Ryan wasn't at Brendon's wedding and I'm pretty sure not at Spencer's wedding either despite them being friends since the age of 5.
      Panic! is Brendon's baby even though he didn't create the band. Brendon has said that all the other dudes left but he never wanted to leave Panic!. Panic! is what he loves. Also I'm pretty sure there are legal issues that would come too.
      As of today they haven't really spoken about their relationship with each other. Brendon and Ryan seem to have an obvious rift in their relationship. Brendon and Ryan had been extremely close so it's rather sad to see them as not really friends anymore. I've heard that Ryan and Spencer do talk (I think Spencer's wife said something) which makes me glad since they were friends for so long. Jon is basically an adorable family dude who is supportive of legit everyone and continuously talks about Pretty.Odd.
      Talking about Jon, Jon recently found the lost demos of an album called "Cricket and Clover" which was written in between of Fever and Pretty.Odd in a cabin. In the middle of nowhere. Jon can't post these songs due to legal reasons but if he gets the pass on them, the fandom will explode even more then it did when he announced that he found these tracks.

      @@MFPReacts When writing and recording this album they wrote it in Vegas where they (Brendon, Spencer and Ryan) were from so when they wrote Nine In The Afternoon and said "back to the streets where we began" it is literally true, they had gone back to where it all started for them. When they wrote this song they were in the practice studio that had no windows and as Leslie said above they were high. They had no idea what time it was and Spencer commented that it felt like it was seven in the afternoon, that sparked the song idea and they changed it to nine in the afternoon because it worked better lyrically.
      This is the only song from Pretty. Odd. that Panic! has been playing in concert for the last few years. Here is a link to a recent live performance: ua-cam.com/video/h7OLrUuKjVY/v-deo.html

    This is a brilliant and thoughtful analysis. I love it. Pretty Odd is my fav Panic album and I’ve been a fan since 2006. This is their best album by far. Nothing comes close. This is PATD at their peak. Hitting on all cylinders. Such beautiful orchestration and lyricism. My fav song is She Had the World. I’d do anything to hear another album like this, for them to reunite.

    I'm absolutely in love with your analysis of this album - to hear a different point of view or interpretation of certain songs is so interesting and a worthwhile watch. It would be fantastic if you could continue as you've started with the rest of the albums, though I imagine the editing and time it must take to create these videos is hard work. Thanks so much for this upload! ♥️
    Probably one of the most focused and thoughtful reactors I've seen on UA-cam so far, English teacher material.

      Thank you for the kind words, I truly appreciate it! I have always found it fascinating how we can connect to art in different ways. Even on an individual-basis, we can try to enter the artists’ perspective, or we can try to explore how the art makes us feel and how we can relate what’s being said to our own experiences. With music, what’s particularly interesting to me is how the melodies add this extra layer of depth that significantly influences how we interpret what’s being said. However we choose to listen, or however we hear the songs, there’s so much to learn about ourselves, people, and perspectives outside of our own. I value that a lot, hence the format of these reaction videos. As such, it means a lot that you guys enjoy that aspect about them. Thanks again for the kind words 😊
      As for future album reactions, you guys seem to enjoy these, and I like the music, so I don’t see myself stopping here! Album reactions definitely take more time to do, so it’s mostly a matter of me having enough free time to both film it all, and put it all together. Of course another factor in the gap between album reactions is that not everyone has time to watch hour+ long videos, and others just dont like lengthy videos. For that reason, I try to make videos of various lengths, so that there’s something for everyone to enjoy 😀 But yeah, seeing as how I enjoyed the music and you guys seemed to like the reaction, I’ll be reacting to the next album!

    Yess, reaction to Pretty.Odd! It was awesome, I'm seriously amazed with how deep can you analyze lyrics. Thank you for your time and for providing us with such an awesome content.
    It's so awesome that you caught that dreamy thing about "Behind the sea"
    And about "Nine in the afternoon": yeah, they were really high a lot of time, but this song actually has concrete meaning. They went back to their old rehearsal space for this album("back to the place where we began"), they were feeling great and capable of doing everything after their success with the first album("a place where thoughts can bloom"), their friendship was stronger than ever - it's the song about feeling happy and like you've found the place where you belong, you know? Also that rehearsal space didn't have any windows, one day they were here for the very long time and someone said that it feels like seven in the afternoon :D so they changed it to nine and the song was born.
    This album is way more metaphorical than the previous one, cause Ryan Ross, the lyricist and the second singer here, was not happy with the fact that a lot of people managed to see through his lyrics in the first album and get to know him better than he wanted to - so this time he was being overly metaphorical to hide connections to real life better.)
    How do you find Ryan's voice, btw?)
    Thank you for this reaction again! Can't wait for the next one

    • @MFPReacts
      @MFPReacts  5 років тому +3

      It was truly my pleasure! 😊 Thanks for the kind words, as well as that backstory! Very interesting roots to this album. I wonder if people figuring Ryan out through lyrics, in tandem with the bands growing popularity, had something to do with his departure from the band. To answer your question about his voice, I was impressed, it had this old school aesthetic to it that I found pleasing. With that said, Brendon is an extremely talented and powerful vocalist from what I can tell from these 2 albums so far. Very versatile, and he’s got that distinctness to his voice that makes it easy to tell when he’s singing. I think Ryan’s voice complements that nicely, but Brendon’s voice overshadows Ryan’s if I’m thinking lead vocals. That’s not to take anything away from Ryan at all though.

    • @elaiine_n
      @elaiine_n 5 років тому +1

      Oh, thanks for your answer! Yeah, he totally can't match Brendon's voice, very few people nowadays can, but they sound so good together. Brendon is always playing with his voice a lot, going very high and being emotional, and Ryan's calm monotone doesn't compete with him but adds something else in the songs; my personal opinion is that he was the best choice for doing backing vocals for panic! ever)
      Brendon's voice is gonna grow SO much in the next albums, I bet you're gonna be impressed. Also if you find Ryan's vocals pleasing, I recommend the band they created with panic!'s ex-bassist after the split, The Young Veins. It's kinda old school and very good

    How you decipher the lyrics and songs is so vastly different from what I interpreted as I listen to this album as if I was watching a musical production about the protagonist who came back from a trip and the entire musical was a dream. And the person at the end of the mad as rabbits song was the antagonist who got a taste of their own medicine from the events that unfolded in the musical

      That’s actually really funny because, I’m not familiar enough with The Beatles music to refer to their lyrics or even tell you what a given song sounds like, but I grew up around some people who listened to them a lot. I think of the original versions of albums as the definitive versions. They tend to better encapsulate what the band is going for with the album as a whole. As such, I react to the original tracklist as they appear in Apple Music, as opposed to Deluxe Editions. I have nothing against bonus tracks, it’s just that I highly value the feel of an album, and changing the way the album ends by having the bonus tracks there tends to take away from that a bit. However, I am open to reacting to bonus songs as a bonus video, set apart from the actual album reaction, I feel that would be more fitting.

    Again, great video! Pretty Odd concludes the era of Ryan Ross. After this album, Brendon Urie had to take a bigger role in writing lyrics which makes the other albums different (imo, negatively but the changes of sound partially make up for that imo. Though not a fan of Death of a Bachelor and Death of a Bachelor v2 aka Pray for the Wicked). After the departure of Ryan Ross and Jon Walker, Urie and Smith released a track: "New Perspective". I think you should check it out, and use it as a segway into "Vices and Virtues" if you react to it (please do). Fun fact about me: my ranking of their albums are in the order they were released.
