You skipped kansas. It's been high in Kansas consistently. And there was a mutation found in Kansas that makes h5n1 more transmissible recently. That would be something ironic considering the Spanish flu was likely born in Kansas in 1918
Up until Covid-19, most people didn't realize that know that the 1918 pandemic was called the Spanish flu because they were the only ones reporting on it. It was suppressed in the media of US and other countries fighting in WWI. They think the first known cases were in American soldiers in Kansas that were thereafter sent of to war.

Yeah, the biggest coup ever was having Spanish newspapers reporting about the 1918 pandemic so well, it became known as the Spanish Flu. Should definitely have been known as the Kansas Flu.
I will make this brief but I have been researching this. Check out the CDC wastewater tracker, select the data for upstate NY. Notice Oswego County with an above average amount of influenza A detection last 2 weeks. Next do a Google Trends search for the following criteria: search terms “flu, headache, fever, cough.” Time span: past 90 days. Location - start with NY, zoom to Oswego county on the map. You will see a rapid rise in those search terms/trends beginning in late April - early May 2024, after a relatively flat baseline in Feb, March, and most of April. Exactly the time the wastewater is showing samples for, in exactly the same region (Oswego NY). This implies, because of the search terms, that the flu being detected in the wastewater is in people and not livestock here!
This was very informative. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Thank you as always!
My pleasure!

Hey doc this is a little off topic but do you feel people in the south where it’s more sunny handle Covid and other respiratory viruses better than northerners? I was thinking about going back to school in NJ instead of SC but I have allergic asthma and had Covid 6 months ago. It was pretty rough and I ended up with post viral issues. I feel way better now but now I’m wondering if I’m better off staying in a sunny state? I’ve never seen my vitamin d above 25. Although I have not tested since I moved down here. Several months ago our city's wastewater treatment plant had a "break down". News reports were stating there was a mechanical system problem. However, it coincided with a lot of people having what we call "Stomach Flu". We were told to boil our water for 5 days until tests were conducted. According to officials, the low levels of water and severe cold weather had been the culprit. I'm not so sure, but it seemed this was a cover-up of sorts.
Can H5N1 come from a transmission of propane and propane accessories?
No.
Doctor,
Sorry if this is a silly question, but as we are very good at making pretty effective flu vaccines with traditional and safe methods, and the risk of pandemic avian flu is so high, why don't we include the current clade of H5N1 un the annual flu vaccine? Would it not work as well?

The big drop in the incidence of most respiratory tract viruses during the pandemic period when most people were wearing a mask is a good indication many of these viruses are transmitted through the air, rather than via droplets. Most medical practitioners are reluctant to accept this concept since it is not how they were taught when they were medical students.
Could also be droplet since much less contact opportunities as well.

So, the initial mutation drives the percentage of airborn/droplet transition to other species, importantly mammalian. What drove that first mutation? Can it be replicated in the lab? Can further mutations be derived from that process to infect a cluster of species? Will it turn up in a wet market in Wuhan China?
Point mutations occur frequently in RNA viruses.

So they can spray it out of a airplane ✈?
birdtrails
Why would anybody do that? It makes no sense.
_"So they can spray it out of a airplane"_
That would be difficult.
The dispensers would have to be tuned to produce the correct size droplets. Flying high at fast speeds would spread the product too far and in an uncontrolled manner. It would take a long while before it reached the ground, during which time it would be exposed to UV light which would degrade it.
Flying at 1,000 to 3,000 ft, would be better, but still much of the product would dry out and be degraded.
The yield would be extremely low.
It might be more effective to deliver the mink via small parachutes.
