    I’ve always been the type who gets overwhelmed if I schedule more than one thing per day. Even when I have a lunch date with a friend or a just a quick coffee with a friend, I never want to rush them to “get to the next person.” Also, as an introvert, I don’t have the energy to interact with more than one person in a day 😂 Thanks for sharing this concept with people 🤗💚

    Hoping to get this book! I decided in my teen years that I never wanted a smart phone and at 27 I still have my little dumb phone. I hated how addicted my peers seemed and how incapable they were to give me their undivided attention--my mother as well. My phone is intentionally annoying to use lol even having three little kids to care for at home everyday, I'd rather have the extra work of preparing before we leave the house. I have never had anything to stare at while waiting for my coffee at Starbucks, no screen to hide behind when I felt shy, nor a distraction when with a loved one. It's amazing how much phones contribute to the hurried and disconnected problem. Oddly enough people seem to be on a mission to get me to buy a smart phone, almost like they don't want to be the only one addicted or as if I'm missing something in my life. Honey, I don't miss a thing. ;)

    I use to be late all the time. I now arrive early or on time and can really enjoy the day. Planning the night before and staying ahead has been the key for me. Infusing my day with calm moments brings me peace.
    I do well to get up and go to bed the same time every day. All about protecting my circadian rhythm.
    I've been trying to go back to using my clothes line more and the dryer less. Using the clothesline allows for fresh air, excercies and I think about my grandmother as this was her only option.
    Great reminder about quality time over quantity time with others. Grandchildren are coming for a week. Dawn had mentioned something the other day that made me realize I need to be Martha before my company comes and be Mary while they are here.
    Thank you both. You are dear to me and I have grown so much listening to your godly wisdom.

    Now that my kids are ADULTS, I think I can tell everyone I got a few pieces of really bad advice when they were kids and one of the top ones was 'close the door, their room will always be a mess.' Cleaning, organizing, decluttering, I could have spent QUALITY and QUANTITY (😂) TIME with them.
    They know I LOVE them, but as a parent, one always thinks of the things one could have done... Diane and Dawn have nailed it: QUALITY and QUANTITY and LOVE ❤️

    A brilliant thing to do with when visiting with groceries is to put them in your friend/relatives fridge or freezer WITH YOUR CAR KEYS - that way you can not leave them behind! My sister learnt this when accidentally living in Queensland, Australia.

    When I go places and I need to drop my kids off with extended family or friends for care I try to leave time for a visit with them when I pick them up. I see it has “paying them back with my attention and friendship” for sweetly watching my kids for me. Doing this regularly as made for some lovely visits with people I frequently don’t see much cause we’re all so busy.

    • @cynthiafisher9907

      From the other person’s perspective, possibly....I have watched kids and it makes me much more stressed when the parents just hang around when they come to pick up the kids. I’ve had screaming meemies for hours(even though I love them) and I just want them to go home so I can have a break! Also, kids tend to display a lot more bad behaviors after the parents come back. I think you need to plan time with your kids when you get back because you left them. Take them to the park or out for ice cream. Just an opinion from the other side.

    • @kima260
      @kima260 2 роки тому +5

      @@cynthiafisher9907 I was thinking the EXACT same thing…. Then I saw YOUR comment. The LAST thing I’d want the other parent of the kids I was just watching to do is “HANG OUT” when she comes to pick them up. That’s happened to me, and I’m usually NOT HAPPY, I’m glad to have helped but PLEASE, at this point gather your children and just GO!! Sorry , not sorry 😣!! Visit with me another time (scheduled of course) maybe when NO kids are involved. Plz from a parent who’s been there, Heed this advice. 👍🏻

    This topic hits home. It's funny how I even slot in rest time on my schedule, and how can I grab ahold of everything on my carefully planned calendar and spend extra time perfecting all those necessary and so important tasks and leave my scheduled rest out, I will inadvertently fill it with something, anything but me. How can I place myself in the bottom of a barrel and meticulously start piling stuff on top of myself to a point of anxiety attacks. I know I am not alone. If I put myself anywhere near the top, I will be such a nicer more effective person. God gives each the same amount of time each day, I am the one that messes it up. Mom's, daughter's, wives, sisters... you are not alone, the struggles are real.

    Beautiful, Diana & Dawn !! How ironic that certain things that were supposedly made to make life easier ( like the light bulb) & buy more time , have just lead us on to a more frantic pace. And speaking of pre - clocks, Hawaiians had a really neat concept of time, according to general time blocks in a day.

    • @lizzabbott
      @lizzabbott 2 роки тому

      As per my above comment, those time blocks had designated names , & qualities. And instead of someone saying , I’ll meet you at 1:30, they’d name the general 2 hour or so time period. No sweat if not there at a literal on - the - dot time. Perhaps the person waiting would be at a location where they could tend to duties anyway.
      Now ... to be fair ... those ppl in apt buildings may not come home til after office closes. So maybe thatz why they prefer their own p’age system. Or maybe they R exhausted or starving upon arriving home, & don’t want to small talk. Oh wow ! I recently went to dentist ( also got squeezed in) & I made a huge effort to get there on time ( & O succeeded). They didnt bring me in for a 1/2 hour ! I got annoyed, too. But thankfully stayed outwardly calm. Beautiful prayer & picture @ the end ! TY ! Liz

      The Son of God had to die to reconcile His Children bc sin had eternally separated us from God. All humans were doomed for eternal judgment of hell bc Our 1st parents Adam and Eve disobeyed God and his instruction in the garden. From the Old testament thru the New testament, there had to be a sacrifice of an animal in the temple which the people would spiritually place their sin onto the animal as a temporary sacrifice. But that was the problem, it didn't last...so they would work tirelessly giving animal sacrifice to the Lord. Then when Jesus was born, He was to be the one and only sufficient sacrifice to satisfy the wrath of God for our sins. Jesus only had to die 1x and it was complete from that day on. We get to live in that freedom and free gift if we choose the forgiveness and repent of our sins to the Lord Jesus only.

    "...love your neighbour as yourself" this last bit spoken by Jesus is often left out by religious people, took me 40odd years to realise, I need to be on my list and actually fill my own cup! Can't pour from an empty one as the saying goes.

    Yes Yes! I so rarely hear Christian women tell the truth about this fade of “self love”! It’s such a lie that’s wrapped in a pretty package. Love God and love your neighbor ❤️

    Ooh, this is so good. Thank you for sharing. I found myself feeling unloving toward my sweet baby as I was hurrying through laundry. 😩 Did he have to pull EvErYtHiNg out and make a bigger mess that I would then have to clean up?! But I did get the job done, and I feel so much better after it's done if Baby and I have taken our time and played through the job instead of hurrying.

    I am trying to do what you're saying take more time slow down like they say smell the coffee look at the flowers. Take time with people. I used to be a person that would fill my days with so much and I have a sibling but does that with her time and she wants me to be like that. I keep telling her it's okay to take a deep breath I'm not doing anything for a moment to savor that moment to savor. Many years ago I was challenged to sit down sit still pretend I was sitting on the Lord's lap for 5 minutes don't do anything but just sit back and chill like a child on a Daddy's lap. I remember that being the hardest thing I thought oh my goodness 5 minutes. But as I continually practice that I can sit for several minutes if I don't get it in a day I make sure in the evening I will shut everything down sit back and I'm just still to soak up his presents but the quiet the Stillness the peace. But I understand when you say we go somewhere and it's too many minutes and we're looking at our watches yep that's me and like you said it catches our emotions. I too have found it takes me part way through an appointment of where I might be at before I can just be more me and I feel so bad. So I'm thankful for what you share because it's awareness to be more intentional about if something takes a couple minutes longer it's okay. A dear friend who just passed away she was a pastor's wife of over 50 years she was like a second mom to me. She would always tell me slow down it's okay that that thing took a couple minutes you are going to survive what's important? And I'm so thankful for her wisdom and isn't it amazing the Lord took my friend to heaven but God is using you Diana and also Don in a different way to stretch me continually. I just want to say I thank you very much for what you shared. I to when my kids were really young sometimes I was so busy trying to accomplish so much we can't get those moments back. Be wise smell the coffee Savor the moment while you have them

    This was so good! I think the millennials picking up packages thing, it probably has to do with available hours. If the office is only open 8-5, and you work 8-5, it becomes difficult to pick the packages up. I know very few folks who are home between 7:30am and 5:30pm.

    "The Sleep Revolution" book was also impactful regarding how important sleep is. According to her, Thomas Edison thought sleep was useless and he wanted less of it.

    Just thinking, I loved the podcasts of you two. I listen to them when I'm in the car. Maybe you could transfer the sounds of your video to a podcast. You can read its purely to please me😅. But maybe others could find you there to. Just an idea, I know it's yet again more work for you . Just want some more of the positive talk around me😉. 🙏❤️

    Self care? I wasn't put here for me... I'm here for glorifying God, pointing others to Jesus, nurturing my children and lovingly supporting my husband. Nowhere in scripture is self care emphasized.
    This was a good one ❤️

    I'm a little late to the video but just incase you didn't know about it. John Mark Comer and Jefferson Bethke did an 11 part podcast series called Fight Hustle End Hurry that is pretty fantastic!
