I drove a Super Dexta at the age of 13 across many many fields learnt how to plough but I still recall the mountains around me the smell the feeling of freedom !! Those were the days I look at the young today and what have they ??? They have everything but sadly they have nothing The world needs to change does it not ??
Modern machines cover the ground so quickly today that even fewer people experience what you are taking about. Modern machines also remove you from much of what is happening around you. That can be great on long days but yes I think we are all missing out on something. Thanks for the comment. Mike
Fantastic video lads, brings back warming memories of my grandad & dad farming. What a fantastic outfit the 35 & drill, it makes a fantastic job. Well done lad’s 👍
Nice to see again how we used to do it plus both my favourite tractors . Fordson Dexta and Massey Ferguson 35 . Have driven both types but basically the same with the same engine 3 cylinder Perkins engine.
In the 60s we had twins on the MF35 for harrowing in Germany. thr MF (1962) is still on the farm but only for driving the big manure pump. for working in the fields we use John Deere.
Self-sufficiency farming has given way to a reliance on supermarkets, the weekly shop, and imports which is all very well until the horrors of war reemerge and our reliance on inputs we no longer produce ourselves makes one feel naked.
Hi Mike - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. The MF 35 & 135 are the definitive tractors for use in the West of Ireland and are particularly ideal for working on the bog. Turf trailers called land drives are made using a tractor back end, the wheels of which are driven by the tractor PTO making the entire outfit a 4 wheel drive.
@@jstringerandsonsfarming Big Rodders again. I could take photos in a couple of weeks time when in Donegal but only know how to send them via email - I checked out your description but an email address isn't listed.
Great video! I have a Ferguson drill the same. Mine is missing the chain and bracket for height adjustment. Would you be able to get some measurements so I could make one up? Many thanks! T
Sorry it has taken a while. I went to my dads today and took some photos. It looks quite simple and I am sure you could make one easily and use the chain to get the length right. If you send me an email address I will forward you the photos. Mike
Thanks for the compliment. We are in East Yorkshire. It was a fun day and the dry weather we have had has just reduced the work load a bit giving us time to do it.
I don’t really know it definitely makes them knock for a second or two but if they won’t start and you need them it’s only a second or two and less wear on the starter I suppose.
Hi Beka I think it would be great to have a tractor if it makes life easier and you enjoy it but they are very expensive. I think my father is very lucky to have been able to build up his collection and have time to use them. We have really enjoyed using his machines and I have been impressed by how much he can produce with them so it can be productive and enjoyable. Some of the older machines are really good. When you look at some of the new small equipment I am not sure it is made to last. Hope it works for you.
I’ve a question. I’m dreaming about tractors all my life and now at the age of 28 years old guy I’m working my ass off in construction to save up and buy a compact tractor. I have approximately the same size field as you on the beginning of the video. Is it worth paying €6000 for just pure hobby and pleasure and maybe planting some corn or potatoes?
Yes it is a Fordson Dexter. The farm did own it then we gave it to the local cricket club then we bought it back a few years ago. So we have bought it twice and given it away once so far.
That takes me back to great times.. Thank you

Tje thing is a lot of these tractors are still used today never were parked. Work horses. Last forever with regular maintenance.
Great video lads lovely to see 👀 the old kit looking so well and doing a good job well done regards from N Ireland , what part of the UK is that ?

Easy start, a solution to a failing starter motor.

Awesome looking Dexta what year is it mines 59
Sorry for the slow reply. I remembered to ask my dad today the Dexta is a 58 and the 35 is a 61.
@J Stringer & sons farming thank you for the it's very important to keep the farming history alive.
My. 414 IH loves a sniff of ether to start do you think it does any harm ?..

Is the bigger Massey a 165?
I thank a 135 is about 34hp and a 165 about 58hp
Imt 539!
I’ve the same size land as yours in this video! Do you recommend I should buy a tractor? It’s my dream come true and I’m saving up every cent for it

Well if you have some land grow some food you can do that without machines. If you have machines that make life easier use them but food comes first.
Is that a Fordson
