I grew up driving a 1950 Ford 8N in Beeville, TX. A couple of precautions: 1. Never step off the back end of that tractor while the PTO is turning. My neighbor did just that while wearing blue jeans. Her jeans got caught in the PTO and crippled her for the rest of her life. 2. Never pull a car out of a ditch from the rear of the tractor - pull it from the front. Many people died when the tractor flipped over backwards and the steering wheel crushed them. I loved that old Ford 8N. I had it completed restored in the 1982 and it is still running today. Mine did too...1st thing he bought after getting rid of the horse...My dad rebuilt it, it went to my uncle in Manheim, Pa...and was later sold in the 1980's...still running somewhere. My uncle had John Deere (3 of them) - the 1st one still had a belt drive wheel on the side! Now THOSE were dangerous...live belts? 😂 Those old Ford's were good, and there was an adapter kit made to put a flathead V8 in it!
65 years ago, I bush-hogged with an 8N Ford. What I remember most, was the power takeoff was live, You could clutch it and the mower would keep pushing the tractor! After the mower pushed me through a bob wire fence at the end of the field, i learned to kick it out of gear and then try to brake. Memories!
That's MY tractor that you have. I mowed with mine for over 20 years. I had a "trim" mower with three blades and it worked great! The hardest part was turning around all the time.
OH and your universal joint at the PTO connection is pretty well shot, get a new universal in there before that comes completely apart. Put some oil on the push button lock for the PTO and some grease on all the moving parts, slip shaft and universal joint.

The seat was partially rusted out, so we used a feather pillow from one of the dorms to keep the tractor's seat from digging into the driver. I was the only farm boy on the crew, so the boss always put me on the tractor. One afternoon while mowing a rough section at fairly high speed, I hit a bump and bounced up off the seat. The pillow was right behind me. I landed on the seat but the pillow hit the ground...and I bush-hogged it! It looked like a white-out blizzard in July!
I believe the yellow flowers you have are brown eyed Susies. Your tractor is beautiful and it is nice to witness you using it. The older tractors are great because we can do most maintenance ourselves. I work with a 1978 John Deere. A beauty as well. Have a nice day!
I worked on a dairy farm back in 1966 when I was 14 years old and drove a Ford tractor just like that. I used to haul silage out to the cows with it. I had a full trailer of silage and accidentally let the clutch out too fast and popped a wheelie. Lesson learned.
We had a 49 Ford tractor back in the mid 50s. I said "had" becaue my older sister filled the gas tank up and forgot to put the gas cap back on. When she started it up, it caught fire. I am 71 now, and I can still remember my sister jumping off the seat, grabbing the pillow she was sitting on and beating the fire out. My dad bought a brand new Masey Ferguson diesel tractor after that little episode.
I don't remember but on one of my fords I had to use an override clutch on the PTO. If you didn't have it the brush hog if still moving would push the tractor even with the clutch in I. Love brush hog work. Enjoy.

I was an aircraft electrician in the Air Force for 8 years. They were super strict that no one without exception could wear any king of metal jewelry including wedding rings. They had some occasions were the electrician who forgot to remove his wedding ring got fried so badly that his heart exploded! Gold is a very good conductor of electricity! Safe is better than dead!

I love my Zero turn mower. I mow about 2.5 acres and it is so easy and relaxing. I also like bushhogging with my Case tractors. Have a '55 VAC and a '58 400B as well as 4 other old Case's that are pretty much retired. Kind of always wanted a Jubilee, just never found a deal that I couldn't pass up.
Also, I do find these type of videos relaxing. The before and after of the work done is nice. My back often hurts after hours on my old Farmall 140 but I still like it. Speaking of crops and pumpkins, I have a nice pumpkin vine with blooms from discarded seeds from where I carved out one last Halloween and hoping I might have a pumpkin from it this year. I did have a perfect pumpkin from carved out seeds many years ago. Gotta change the oil and filter in my Farmall for this season soon.
Nice video. I have a 1974 Farmall 140 and a 5 foot Woods Dixie Cutter M5 mower behind it on a fast hitch and use it to mow many acres during the season. Recently, had to replace one of the rear tires for the first time and cost around $400 but a shop came and did it.
We had a '53 Golden Jubilee and I loved that tractor. We used it for tree planting also so we changed the exhaust to come alongside the hood and straight up. . . . . should have come from the factory like that. The crappy part of mowing with it is the lack of live PTO.
Back in the sixties my Dad had four Jubilee’s ,each hooked up to different appliances to do custom plowing (Garden) tilling, hay cutting etc. so that when he came home from his day job he could just jump on his tractors and go. Or myself on one of the others. Before that he more or less got me started on two Massy Harris “ Pony “ tractors. Which I preferred because the mowing machine was underneath the engine which kept your neck looking forward all the time rather than trying to watch what was behind on the Ford. Don’t get me wrong, still love the old Fords. Loved the overdrive in them also from getting to job to job.
The Jubilee is special because it’s my birthday tractor. Me and the Jubilee were born in the same year. I’ve owned three 8Ns and one 9N, but I never had the opportunity to buy a Jubilee. Always wanted to buy one and rebuild it from the ground up. At my age, opportunities are getting more rare. Enjoy it, it’s a great small farm tractor. Add a rake and a baler to your bush hog and you can make money selling the high grass as food for cattle. Add some alfalfa to your fields and you can sell it as hay for horses.
Yeah, I remember this about 60 years ago on a 801 Ford bush hogging cotton stalks after picking the cotton with a one row cotton picker mounted on a 420 John Deere running in reverse, slow but still faster than picking by hand!!!

If I went to buy a new tractor I'd buy the Kubota, they are tough, keep in mind people can destroy any brand, before Fiat bought Ford New Holland Kubota was going to be the owner, Deeres gotten sideways, I hope this helps and good luck!
Your tractor is the same year as me. I hope I still have as much life in me as that old tractor has in it. Back in the 70s I ran a 8N, and a 52 Massey Harris, they did their share of work, mostly fencing work, holes & posts. These days all I have is an off grid homestead, 70 acres, and a John Deer track loader. A nice new 1959, well not so new, and the solenoid crapped out last week. sucks, I use that to load the saw mill. Speaking of sawmills, that LT 40 sure looks sweet, good to see young folks getting it done. Bless you both, take care.

I used to use a cicle mower for that, they cut phenomenally good, the only thing I'd add is a frame topper to keep you from burnt too much all great👍👍👍
I love mowing, rototilling, and baling hay with vintage tractors. I just wish they had a two-stage clutch. When Bailey hay with an old tractor I had to keep double clutching every time I started out or else it would kill the engine.
I learned to drive a jubilee and later pulled a 3 blade shredder and spent many hours on my Saturdays twice a month all summer 30 acres and swampy in low corner .. A 6' rhino grader blade is as large as you want to go .
lift on the corner swing out & pick up the cut on the next it's a bit like the T20 I once had , great little tractor They have a tow fur-plough for them to the grown needs turning.
I have a finish mower on the back of my Jubilee. I don’t get it done as fast as a zero turn could, but, I’m doing it at a fraction of the price. Get that overrun clutch!
Hey Tyler and Brittany, you guys are doing a great job... always enjoy your videos. Tyler I've done very similar things as you do for over 50yrs. I have a nice little "Z" scar from a twistaflex watch band (45yrs ago) on my left wrist from an alternator positive to something... and a permanent ring scar (25yrs ago) when my wedding band caught on a ladder bracket after I finished strapping to my truck rack, jumped down and if it hadn't been for my tip toes touching the ground, I fear my finger would be gone. The ring went right to the bone and is now shape like a pear. The ring now hangs on a nail. Jewelry and working men don't go together! It only takes a split second when these accidents happen. My thoughts.
I spent many days on a 53 Jubelee and a 58 841 Powermaster. These were very tough old tractors. No trouble at all if you get rid of the 6 volt and go to a 12 volt system. We put 6500 hours on the Jubelee and over 8000 hrs on the 841 before trading them off without any major issues at all.
Man I bet that new mowed vegetation smells great ! When you're doing your maintenance on the tractor, you might want to grease up the universals on the PTO drive shaft.
Those u joints are doing a fair amount of wobbling. You might want to check them out, and make sure they are in good shape. You definitely don’t want it flying apart.
53 golden jubilee is a great tractor . we used ours for over 40 years . they have a live PTO . which means that the PTO keeps turning even with the clutch is depressed
Thanks for video. I was told jubile too fast for tiller. Dangerous to bushhog non limited PTO push you threw after clutch in. Looks like it does good. . I'm glade just bought one again thanks
The jubilee also known as the NAA doesn't have a two-stage clutch and it needs to have the overrunning clutch on the PTO shaft or else the mower will push the tractor when you try to stop unless you do some fancy clutching. It also did not have low gears unless it had a Sherman transmission installed into the bellhousing. That transmission turned the standard 4 X 1 into a 12 X 3 transmission.
Ford tractors do have a neutral safety switch that will not allow you to start the tractor unless you put the tractor in neutral. It will be a push button switch in front of the gear shift that has a mechanical device that will not allow you to push it all the way if the tractor's in gear. Unfortunately most of these were bypass by owners with a switch on a dash.
Yes, great safety feature and ours was NOT bypassed. It's a good thing because 12 year old me was standing in front of the rear tire, tractor in gear and my not so bright self pushing on the starter button wondering why it wouldn't crank... not my brightest moment.
We had a Jubilee that we used primarily as a loader tractor until about 1970. I was the unlucky one as a teenager who had to use that thing more than anyone else on the farm. Always seemed about 10 hp less when you were in the field than it was in the promotional literature lol. Hated that thing mostly because it was just too small for our needs. Our BIG tractors in those days were an 830 and a 930 Case, so we still needed that Ford to do actual work, not just puttering around. The lack of traction and power plus having to use pto adapters for everything and no proper drawbar made it difficult to like. It was a great day when the truck arrived in our yard with a brand new IH 574 loader tractor so I could finally roll that Jubilee out behind the barn and forget it existed! YMMV. Fun to watch the thing working in your yard though. Just happy I don't have to rely on it. ;-)
I usto drive one of those fixing fence on my pops farm. Our was grey and red and then grey and Ford blue. Still runs today. Super cool tractor. Brings back alot of memories.
Are you sure that it was not a Ford Ferguson or a Massey Ferguson? They look almost identical. When Henry Ford started putting the Ferguson 3-point hitch system on his tractors he called it the Ford Ferguson because he put the Harry Ferguson three point hitch system on it. That system is still used on nearly all tractors to this very day. Harry Ferguson went on to make his own tractors the little gray Fergie. At that time Henry Ford kept using his three-point hitch system without permission and got sued.
Hell were done by the end of October here. Cooler summers here though so you pick one or the other. It is easier to put on a coat than a AC unit so I'll take the colder winter every time.
You should get an old two row culivator that fits your fordson tractor, and when you plant your garden plant it so you can culivate your crop with the tractor and really be easy.
For trimming around those objects where you have to get up close try a weed wacker with a brush blade. You may have the control you need to get close up without risking running over anything with your tractor. Or you can just use an old push lawnmower.
I can’t remember whether or not the Ford Jubilee had a continuous power takeoff. If not you should run an o retire extension on the pto to keep the centripetal force stored up in the rotating. Push bog blade from shoving the tractor forward when you push in the clutch when you try to stop. I had a 52 JD A and a 49 G that had to have the override pto extension for safely running my bushhog.
That negative cable I’m thinking is for a positive ground. A lot of old tractors and vehicles had positive grounds. I believe your was originally 6 volt positive ground. If someone could chime in that’s knows for sure . I see your battery is a 12v so I’m guessing it was switched over.
Battery post not fitting. If you have a piece of 1/2" copper you can cut a slot in one side about an inch long. Then cut a 1/2" off the pipe. Now you have an adjustable sleeve that will fit over that skinny battery terminal and the ground clamp will tighten down on that. Won't wiggle off like the clamp that bottomed out on you.

Using a PTO "Overrunning coupler" (less than $50) will eliminate the dangerous mower pushing the tractor issue.

Wearing any kind of metal and being a mechanic is not a good idea I stopped when I was in my 20s my wedding ring got hot and that's the last I wore it

lift on the corner swing out & pick up the cut on the next it's a bit like the T20 I once had , great little tractor They have a tow fur-plough for them to the grown needs turning.
I have a finish mower on the back of my Jubilee. I don’t get it done as fast as a zero turn could, but, I’m doing it at a fraction of the price.

Hey Tyler and Brittany, you guys are doing a great job... always enjoy your videos. Tyler I've done very similar things as you do for over 50yrs. I have a nice little "Z" scar from a twistaflex watch band (45yrs ago) on my left wrist from an alternator positive to something... and a permanent ring scar (25yrs ago) when my wedding band caught on a ladder bracket after I finished strapping to my truck rack, jumped down and if it hadn't been for my tip toes touching the ground, I fear my finger would be gone. The ring went right to the bone and is now shape like a pear. The ring now hangs on a nail. Jewelry and working men don't go together! It only takes a split second when these accidents happen. My thoughts.
I spent many days on a 53 Jubelee and a 58 841 Powermaster. These were very tough old tractors. No trouble at all if you get rid of the 6 volt and go to a 12 volt system. We put 6500 hours on the Jubelee and over 8000 hrs on the 841 before trading them off without any major issues at all.

The negative terminal is always smaller. It's how you differentiate between positive and negative if it's not marked.
Man I bet that new mowed vegetation smells great ! When you're doing your maintenance on the tractor, you might want to grease up the universals on the PTO drive shaft.
Those u joints are doing a fair amount of wobbling. You might want to check them out, and make sure they are in good shape. You definitely don’t want it flying apart.
53 golden jubilee is a great tractor . we used ours for over 40 years . they have a live PTO . which means that the PTO keeps turning even with the clutch is depressed
Thanks for video. I was told jubile too fast for tiller. Dangerous to bushhog non limited PTO push you threw after clutch in. Looks like it does good. . I'm glade just bought one again thanks
The jubilee also known as the NAA doesn't have a two-stage clutch and it needs to have the overrunning clutch on the PTO shaft or else the mower will push the tractor when you try to stop unless you do some fancy clutching.
It also did not have low gears unless it had a Sherman transmission installed into the bellhousing.
That transmission turned the standard 4 X 1 into a 12 X 3 transmission.

Ford tractors do have a neutral safety switch that will not allow you to start the tractor unless you put the tractor in neutral. It will be a push button switch in front of the gear shift that has a mechanical device that will not allow you to push it all the way if the tractor's in gear. Unfortunately most of these were bypass by owners with a switch on a dash.
Yes, great safety feature and ours was NOT bypassed. It's a good thing because 12 year old me was standing in front of the rear tire, tractor in gear and my not so bright self pushing on the starter button wondering why it wouldn't crank... not my brightest moment.
We had a Jubilee that we used primarily as a loader tractor until about 1970. I was the unlucky one as a teenager who had to use that thing more than anyone else on the farm. Always seemed about 10 hp less when you were in the field than it was in the promotional literature lol. Hated that thing mostly because it was just too small for our needs. Our BIG tractors in those days were an 830 and a 930 Case, so we still needed that Ford to do actual work, not just puttering around. The lack of traction and power plus having to use pto adapters for everything and no proper drawbar made it difficult to like. It was a great day when the truck arrived in our yard with a brand new IH 574 loader tractor so I could finally roll that Jubilee out behind the barn and forget it existed! YMMV. Fun to watch the thing working in your yard though. Just happy I don't have to rely on it. ;-)
You can turn a battery cable upside down if it won't grip the terminal or get battery shims, which is best to get a good solid full contact

I usto drive one of those fixing fence on my pops farm. Our was grey and red and then grey and Ford blue. Still runs today. Super cool tractor. Brings back alot of memories.
Are you sure that it was not a Ford Ferguson or a Massey Ferguson? They look almost identical.
When Henry Ford started putting the Ferguson 3-point hitch system on his tractors he called it the Ford Ferguson because he put the Harry Ferguson three point hitch system on it. That system is still used on nearly all tractors to this very day.
Harry Ferguson went on to make his own tractors the little gray Fergie.
At that time Henry Ford kept using his three-point hitch system without permission and got sued.

There is a special grease for these connectors that reduces corrosion and makes them last longer with less resistance.

Hell were done by the end of October here. Cooler summers here though so you pick one or the other. It is easier to put on a coat than a AC unit so I'll take the colder winter every time.
That old tractor does a good job and seems to run pretty good
You should get an old two row culivator that fits your fordson tractor, and when you plant your garden plant it so you can culivate your crop with the tractor and really be easy.
For trimming around those objects where you have to get up close try a weed wacker with a brush blade. You may have the control you need to get close up without risking running over anything with your tractor. Or you can just use an old push lawnmower.
That looks like so much fun!

I can’t remember whether or not the Ford Jubilee had a continuous power takeoff. If not you should run an o retire extension on the pto to keep the centripetal force stored up in the rotating. Push bog blade from shoving the tractor forward when you push in the clutch when you try to stop. I had a 52 JD A and a 49 G that had to have the override pto extension for safely running my bushhog.
That negative cable I’m thinking is for a positive ground. A lot of old tractors and vehicles had positive grounds. I believe your was originally 6 volt positive ground. If someone could chime in that’s knows for sure . I see your battery is a 12v so I’m guessing it was switched over.
Good equipment. Tractor seems 2 be a Dexta. We use Old Ferguson to work the canefields... I suppose it has crash gearbox.. I mean the Ford..
Yep, always disconnect the grnd wire first during removal and connect it to the battery last !
Battery post not fitting. If you have a piece of 1/2" copper you can cut a slot in one side about an inch long. Then cut a 1/2" off the pipe. Now you have an adjustable sleeve that will fit over that skinny battery terminal and the ground clamp will tighten down on that. Won't wiggle off like the clamp that bottomed out on you.

My granddad had a tractor like this. I learn to drive it and I was thing of else sometimes.
