    This is an excellent "light touch" approach thanks Matti!
    I use Apple Photos on my iMac, with a DXO Optics Pro extension for optical lens corrections, "smart lighting" to help with heavy shadows and "clear view" for de-haze.
    The RAW workflow you demonstrate in this video works really well for Apple Photos too.

    Great video showing that RAW is not that complicated. I’m an avid RAW shooter since many years. A lot of decisions can be taken later on when “developing” the pictures.

    Hi Matti! Here’s Rafael, from Spain. Nice, simple and kind video, as always you do, and not only for beginners. I agree, the color balance is a basic adjust, for any kind of photography. Anyway, your tutorial is perfect in all aspects. Is hard to see a great photographer so wise and humble in his explanations. Anyone is free to do his way. In fact, photography is experiment and trial, but you have to preview the final result. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Always a pleasure to see your videos!

    The sky in the edited beach shot is more cyan. This may be less "authentic", but looks better.

    In my experience, it is good to be a little conservative when processing RAW. For the final perfecting, you can use layers. It gives you also better options for local adjustments.

    Hi Matti,
    Thank you for producing these very informative and straightforward videos, I have been struggling with processing my RAW photographs, I do not have Lightroom but do have Nikon NX Studio. My question is can the Simple Raw Workflow be tailored to be used with Nikon NX Studio? Many thanks Tony Green.

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  2 роки тому

      Thanks for watching. I don't know how Nikon Nx Studio works, but if has some sort of adjustments for highlights, midtones, contrast, shadows etc. I would imagine you can adapt my workflow to it.

    Hi Matti!! Good tips, for sure. Please do give some advice on color grading and add also some advanced tips also.
    Personally, I try to get 90% of the image in camera, I shoot RAW+JPEG all the time but I find myself using the JPEGs almost all the time, but that is mainly because I hate editing RAWs.
    But its like you said, if the shooter is happy all is good!!
    All the best to you guys, and keep it up!!

    Great tips on processing raw images Matti... will try out these cues...wonder why with today's AI cameras jpeg are not fine tuned to get the best SOOC image...looks like mobile cameras perform better in this area.

    “If you are happy, I am happy.” Excellent advice! Still, I would encourage those who think they only want JPG to set the camera to raw+jpg and save the raw files for a rainy day: just in case! Disk storage is cheap.

    You don't increase texture or sharpness? I'm just an amateur photographer, but i feel the raw are usually soft

    • @mattisulanto
      @mattisulanto  2 роки тому +2

      The amount of sharpening depends on the final use of the photo and the default LR setting is pretty good for general use.

    Monty, thanks for your post processing guide. You have taken the mystery out of the process. I have an Olympus PenF it will shoot and save the raw data; however, that data must be processed in the camera. I really didn’t know where to start. The PenF has the editor in the camera. No other software or computer is available or required. I am anxious to look at how that feature works. I think the PenF has been overlooked, and shunned by some because they don’t know how to use the internal editor. I am anxious to try it. Thanks again!

    Shooting in RAW is the same as cooking.
    Many love to cook at home as they have developed great cooking skills and want full control over the creation of their food. Of course, a good home cook attracts praises and some housewives even want to be seen as highly competent housewives.
    But there are also many who dont give a damn about cooking. Its too time consuming. They would rather eat “fully prepared food” out there and explore all the great options (recipes, film sims etc). Simple, fun, no fuss, no muss.
    Imo, if shooting in RAW is to enable artistic enhancement and manipulation of the image (reality) into disreality, then its up to the photographer. Many brides in bridal photos dont even look real. Disreality is great in attracting praises.
    But if the aim of shooting RAW is to provide an avenue to RESCUE problematic images caused by technical limitations (eg: shadows too dark, highlights too bright etc) then…that is PATHETIC😂 because its so sad that all these images from over-priced premium cameras must still be rescued/corrected by sending them to a PC or equivalent😂
    Thats ridiculous.
    If Im using a little Lumix pocket camera, and its images must be rescued via shooting in RAW, then I agree..because im using a cheap camera. I cant expect much from it.
    But if im using a new Sony A7SIII or other more expensive high end mirrorless or DSLR cameras, then its preposterous that images from such over-priced pieces of cleverly compromised products must still be rescued by the PC😂😂
