I've seen a lot of Taika's movies, but The Search For The Wilderpeople is the only movie I've ever seen where at the end the whole crowded cinema audience gave it a standing ovation. It was an extraordinary experience to be a part of it.
He was never part of the old boys club, and was too far away to be noticed quickly. He had to make his name for himself with his sheer quality. This Jewish man from NZ has one of the most unique comedy styles in movie industry. Edgar Wright and Taika Waititi are my favorites. Also, loving your content. I hope the algorithm blesses you.
I want to see Taika Waititi movies based on Terry Pratchett books. They have exactly the same "comedy of the mundane" philosophy, and the same rare talent for combining humour with darkness and not losing either.
@@PentexProductions If New Zealand really only has two degrees of separation, then logically I must know someone who also knows Taika. I wish I knew who it was so I could lend them a Discworld book to leave lying around somewhere he'd find it.
Me neither, so glad it's been able to start filming in Australia. My next video is a bit of a follow up to this one, but looks at Ragnarok in more detail, so be sure to subscribe so you don't miss it!
A film with Adolf Hitler as the protagonist's imaginary friend elicits many of the same emotions as something far more serious like Schindler's List. The magic of filmmaking.
he’s a creative genius. his back catalog is amazing. but i think he’s had too many people say yes to him since rangnarok and this culminated in love and thunder feeling like disjointed fan service to himself.
Great video! I'm currently writing my first pilot episode for 5 part series. This video reminded me of some things that my script probably still needs adressing. Thanks! Keep it up!
I'll have to learn that Serious versus Solemn speech. Far too often people get upset that you're laughing and they aren't. Especially with problems that stem from disagreement. People get mad when they aren't right. But through comedy you can share different perspectives without triggering that anger. At least that's what I tell myself.
I've only seen Eagle vs Shark a few months ago since i recently discovered Jemaine Clement and binged all his his movies. It has become one of my favorite films and I dont think i've rewatched a movie so many times as i do with Eagle vs. Shark. It's really funny in it's own way and i love how the characters were written, the soundtrack is amazing too. Thank you for including it in your video! I don't really see much talk about the movie, and mostly it's just negative reviews. Appreciate this so much!
I do not find Taikas work "good" in any way.... I love Starwars... What I say isn't out of hatred... Hamfisted works really well to explain it, I don't want to watch the rest of the video. I wouldn't believe he directed Mando unless I literally was told. Not a fan.
If you're wondering why I don't talk much about Thor: Ragnarok in this video, it's because I do that here: ua-cam.com/video/hy28M1TCJ4M/v-deo.html
Maybe an update about post love and thunder taika

I was lucky enough to go to an early screening of it in NZ with him and Sam Neill for a Q and A - brilliant movie experience.
This is my favorite Director of all time. He's still so early in his career too.
Agreed, I'm so excited to see what he does next.

If anyone could make a Discworld movie, it'd be Taika.

Or Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy :D
Taika has a way of balancing his movies out. Can't wait for Thor Love and Thunder.

This didn't age well eh 🤣🤣
Came here from reddit after watching the rock/bond video. Subscribed! This channel slapps
Welcome to the channel!
Agreed
Quickly becoming one of my favorite video essay channels on all things film, television, and art
Thank you so much!
Ikr it's great
This is a great video! You perfectly put into words what makes his films so appealing and unique.
Thanks for watching!
I think that how he ties humour to deep/dark themes is much more closer to life than most Hollywood movies
Fantastic Analysis, Thank you so much for this video.
Thanks - I had always wanted to cover Taika's work, glad you enjoyed it.

Solemn*

Good luck for the series!
Beautifully crafted video ❤️

His films belong In a category all to themselves 🥳💓
3rd video watched. The Rock, Russian LOTR and this. Man hella good work.
Hey man! Your channel is awesome! Can't wait to see more.
I enjoyed what of his movies I have seen. Then he opened his mouth. he fits in to Hollywood just fine.
Not REALLY overnight!! I guess ALMOST is ok!! HAHA!! I LOVE Taika!!! Theres a friggin Concord in LotR!!
Long live Figwit!
11:06 it was funny scene but tbh i was so fkn scared. When she showed him her ID ohh man...this was scarier than some today's horrors
Such a good scene because the comedy doesn't cancel out the high stakes or tension. Brilliant writing and film-making.
Great video, keep it up.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Any defence of this director definitely evaporated with Love and Thunder. The broken clock is no longer right.
He's like the Steven Spielberg of this generation.
he can bring drama in jojo rabbit (eg death of scar-jo)... and many more
just proving that i was the 55th sub dont mind me
Welcome to the channel!
Taika Waititi, Edgar Wright, Steven Speilberg and Robert Zemeckis are my favourite directors
Eagle vs Shark was soo good. I didn't even think of who directed it when I saw it.
You're one of a lucky few people who has heard of it, let alone seen it!

Comment for thine algorithm
Much appreciated!
Great video
But...
Jojo rabbit jokes and humor is thousands better then Thor Ragnarok in my opinion
I agree Jojo Rabbit's humour is better - but I enjoy the humour in both films.
We were warned..... ;-(
