Thank you so much for posting this feature on Ripping Yarns. Lately I've been reminiscing - thinking back to 40 years ago where I'd be watching Ripping Yarns on PBS on a 13" B&W tv in my room while eating some Mexican fast food on a Sunday night. Good times
My favourite Pythons- and they were so much more than Pythons. One was also a squirrel, aardvark and platypus, the other a panda and Indian bullfrog. Bless em both. "Billy Meredith signed shorts"; great player was Billy Meredith, played in an FA Cup semi final aged 49.
My ex girlfriend used to compare me to Michael Palin in GG every Saturday when I came home :-) Such a great TV show, all episodes were superb. One of the first VHS videos I bought as a kid
Yes: do three more episodes with younger actors and Michael Palin and Terry Jones as old characters. I watched these when they came out and rewatching them they are still funny today
michael, your face is handsome and exciting, and I just love it, with or without the moustache! Why is Ripping Yarns "obscure" these days? People my age (19) never seem to have heard of it!
The crying grown man playing football was hilarious haha. You just dont see comedy like ripping yarns anymore. God knows what else we were deprived of after the bbc pulled the plug of that series. All of the pythons are hilarious!! Btw great upload.
mbloggo This is in fact one of the series the BBC never pulled the plug on. What happened was they had about 20 different ideas for episodes, once worked out only eight were consider viable, plus the pilot, which are the ones they made. After that they declined to make any more due to the lack of ideas. Exactly the same reason was why only 12 Fawlty Towers were made. The Pythons were smart enough to know not to flog it to death, scrabbling for ideas, and getting poor results 50 episodes later. That was their true genius. Make 9 textbook classic, not 120 mediocre efforts.
Because there were two writers, I believe Ripping Yarns was the closest to most Python of all the solo works, Fawlty Towers a close second then RWT - all classics in their own right!

BORING FACE?!?!?! whaaaaaaaat?? *outraged*
Palin+Jones=Love
Thanks for the upload, comedy connections looks like a great show! ;)
been watching this for thirty years plus.Still a classic
David Leland's speech as Mr Dainty is such a huge highlight, just never fails to make me laugh. Golden Gordon should be made into a musical!

Ripping Yarns was wonderful. :-D
I've seen Ripping Yarns so many times. Golden Gorden is my favourite. It was George Harrison's favourite so I am in good company.

Haha, 8-1, EIGHT BLOODY ONE and then throws a door, laughing myself to death. XD.

The BBC stopped the second series - insane, whatever the costs. Terry and Michael - two of the most talented men possible.

From "Golden Gordon" :-Gordon :" How's Vera?"
Cyril : "Not bad..... farting's stopped" Classic !
"Hello dad", dad throw's brick at son.
They did so few, I'd never seen any 'Do Not Adjust Your Set' till Y-Tube.
I think Michael was the best looking of the bunch and had a tremendous crush on him.
