No one was a bigger fan of Roger's voice than Freddie--Roger was there every minute to back him up vocally if Freddie faltered, even as he kept on drumming.
As a huge Beatles fan I’m sure Roger loved the opportunity to sing it, and he did so with such feeling and beauty. I’ve always loved his voice. Good job Rog! Very moving!
Roger always had a SOULFUL voice. & one with real GUSTO in the top range ....I remember hearing him take the lead in 'Im in Love with my Car' Live and thinking 'This guys voice is FANTASTIC' !! ..... not just for backup vocals. He was such a critical component in Queen's sound. & his drumming like his voice could be both so subtle yet could also be so THERMONUCLEAR. (Paul)
I had a crap weekend and this. THIS. I always love when Jools just peforms with people who have earned the right to not bother with perfection and performance and just make music. It's like being in the company of old friends. This was beautiful, and it warmed my soul. Thank you BBC Music for always sharing this gorgeous clips with us.
Roger has been in bands since he was 7 years old, and was a choir boy even though he didn't want to do that, and he has always had complete self confidence performing on stage, so we can enjoy it without having to worry.
That´s how it´s done! Abolutely beautiful. No pitch correction necessary. Feeling turned up to eleven. You don‘t have to be a Queen fan to love this. Otherwise : Shove it! ;-)
Yes!! Easteregg discovered :-) I saw Roger ages ago in a tiny club with The Cross (first Tour) and talked to Josh. Roger walked 3 m away from. I will Never forget that. Do I sound like a Fan? Ok, guilty ;-)
Brian May was so frustrated with his parents when they wouldn't let him go to see The Beatles play live--to be a fan living in London but not see them because your parents didin't want you to associate with the kind of people who were in the audience. They were lucky he didn't rebel before he did.
Very true… who knows if he suffered from it in the past years with Queen about it… sure, he was in a band with a singer like Freddie… on the one hand he was aware of it, on the other he wanted to have more vocal space in Queen in my opinion
@@fabiogemma6945 That's why he had his own band on the side! He chose unknown musicians. Years later when they were commenting on the videos Brian said he thought Roger should have chosen other famous musicians and Roger said, "Now you tell me!" He said he and Brian are like brothers.
Roger was the lead singer of his own band for a long time before Smile, so he knew his choice well when he made it--remember that first Queen event that his mother booked had Roger's name on it because he was well known in that area whilie Queen was unknown. Amazingly little ego about Roger Taylor even at a young age considering all of his talents and looks. A special kind of person.
The best singer in Queen? Perhaps. The most consistent certainly. He could do every note live, and often did Fred's high parts for him. Incredible singer.
He was the lead in his teenage years--most boys didn't start being in bands at age 7, either. He didn't want to be a choir boy, but I bet that didn't hurt his voice either.
@@danb2TJ 1977 wasn't early enough ? :D He's done ten solo albums. There's a ton of great music in there that nobody outside of a tiny subsection of Queen fans knows about, and it's bloody unfortunate.

Absolute class from Roger Taylor and Jools,I am sure John would applaud.

Yes, we know him as a drummer of the legendary Queen.
Except its nothing to do with the beatles is it? It's a lennon solo song by which time he'd long moved on
Bryan ferry sings it well

Was written in 1968 with the working title of ‘Child of Nature’ when John was very much, a ‘Beatle’…
Old boy still got a great voice - always loved Roger's singing!
I'd love to hear him sing "Say It's Not True" again, and so many others.
The complete confidence of the old performers--Roger, since the age of 7--is as soothing as it is beautiful.
Magnificent Roger Taylor.
I've always loved Roger's voice. Even so... I was blown away by his singing when I got to see him on his solo tour in 2021. Like a fine wine!

Having a great voice was a given to be a member of Queen. Great song, well done Roger Taylor.
John Deacon has entered the chat... 😋
@@stephenmerton One day someone will track down an elusive recording of John singing.
@@lyndanosek9246 There is one... before they began to turn off his microphone. Happily he was a very good songwriter and killer bass player!

@stephenmerton Deacon has a perfectly good voice, he just couldn't harmonise like the other 3.

An unexpected gift.
Whenever two geniuses pay you such a top-notch tribute, that means you’re a genius to the umpteenth power! Thank God for The Beatles and Queen🙌🙌🙌

Oh My God! This is so beautiful! I love Queen and this song but didn’t think I’d ever hear Roger cover it, and perfectly as well.

The 2nd verse and chorus does it for me.timing and the silence after "i didn`t want to hurt you" it gets you
Wonderful perfomance Roger and Jools!!!!!👏👏👏😍

Sublime! La voz increíble de Roger con la música y letra de Lennon ❤
Funny thing that Roger had the voice to be the frontman of any other great rock band other than a certain Queen!

Surely the most underrated voice in the history of rock? Overshadowed (obvs) by the greatest voice in the history of rock.
Yes indeed.....His voice could have carried ANY rock band & not just put them on the map but risen them to the stratosphere (Paul)
Awsome roger❤🙏🏼

Roger Taylor's got such an amazing voice , he really has🤟
You can see in his face how much he misses the old days and things like that bring him joy. Great voice roger. Freddie would love that ❤
I've always truly admired Jools Holland's piano skills, absolutely amazing, underrated imo
Maravillosa versión, aplausos querido Roger Taylor
Freddie's vocal chops got all the attention (and rightfully so), but Roger woulda been the lead vocal in most bands, he's THAT good. 💯

He may not be able to hit the dog whistle high notes anymore but the ones he sings are beautiful
I loved Roger's singing since early Queen era, however, I also love John Lennon 's Jealous Guy, now he put my beloved altogether now, thanks to Roger.
