I bought the 2016 R...having been an avid VW fan and owner for years, the tuning capabilities of what can be eeked out of these motors is unreal. It's a practical ride and will walk many a muscle cars out there.
Every time a review comes up, it reaffirms my decision to purchase the Golf R. What an amazing machine for great value. Check out some videos on my channel if you like the car!
DSG R slower then a STI manual? Did not see that coming. I understand the braking being better in the STI but acceleration I thought the DSG would trump most drivers in a stick.
Artiom Abreu absolutely!! The a3 clan has no sense of no art or style compared to germany's best seller. It has only crazy gizmos and stable awd, that's it.
Nah, the sleeper look is what attracts me to this fine machine, hood scoops, flared fenders, outrageous spoilers, that's for people who want attention.
Good call.. Shame they were a bit late. I needed to take delivery by August 1st and went with a 16 WRX Prem. Same story as with the Focus RS, not available when I was ready to buy.
something's up with the test model they had, or their measuring equipment wasn't calibrated properly...a stock MK7 R should run mid/mid-low 4's 0-60 and low 13's in the 1/4.
lynks8 Yeah that sounds about right, especially the DSG with it's very quick shifts. The golf r is definitely a sleeper, my brother owns the 2012 model and it never fails to impress.
***** For a car that would be over $600 a month car payment. I don't want to blend in. That is based off of one at $38K with a 5 year loan and not including interest. Would be exactly $633.33 a month.
I grew up in Germany and for me, Volkswagen is the most annoying Car brand in the world. The most people there drive a Volkswagen. Go to a road and take a look on oncoming cars. You standing there and...: ,,Volkswagen, Volkswagen, Volkswagen, Renault, Audi, Volkswagen, another Volkswagen, Opel, Volkswagen, Skoda, Porsche, Volkswagen..." This is really annoying.

Did you blow it up?
@@TheCarCrazyGuy seems so

+zed4me Same here!
Wow... seems impressive. I can see some former Subaru STI GR-chassis owners jumping into one of these.
AWESOME.... now bring the GTE over please!!! Or make the next e-Golf with a dual motor 'R' set up!
You had me at Teutonic snuggle

The track you were on looks like the Nurburgring in certain spots.
To me it looks nicer and cheaper than s3

Yes! Been waiting for this.
I got a 2014 Golf TDI that I bought 2 weeks ago. I should have waited a bit more and tried to get this one instead.
Damn, I didn't know the Golf R was this much of a beast. 37k though. That's up there a bit. Worth it I'd say, if you can afford it.
John Davis rules.
Amazing car
I might buy 1
Great car, just wish it looked a bit more aggressive.

I can imagine how fast it will run with a big turbo
When he says golf it sounds like he's saying goff.
I'd drive that...
Who'd ever think a vw would do zero to 60 under five seconds or cost close to 40k?
+David Van I know... Its just become so common
+David Van Its not a Golf.
37000 dollars is a bargain, you Americans get away lightly. these are €60k here in Ireland..about 67000 dollars!!!
+Alan B - Is America a bargain or is Ireland a ripoff?
America doesn't have high taxes on cars , to pay for free university and healthcare like Australia and Ireland
golf r is 49000aud in Australia in manual
Lambs everywhere wonder: How many lambs fit in it?
The Golf R have a 5 cylinder engine @ shoulda have Brembo brakes
Shame it's only offered with a DSG until next year. That immediately took it off my shopping list.
the '16s are already out now with the manual gearbox. many ppl have already purchased them

The DSG is so good. I just bought mine a week ago 2018,...the 6 speed is good, but the DSG is where it's at.
why so slow? 13.7 is not fast at all
You want slow drive a Mitsubishi Mirage lol 0-60 in ten years lol haha
I've seen it do 4.5 seconds 0-60 & 13.1 full stock

The track they tested on is more than 30 years old. It's all worn out.
Start prices at 23k
I'm happy with my GTI LOL
I would even like a stock golf as long as it sells similar to a civic in indonesia.....a stock golf brand new costs approx $46k.....
Just looks too plain.
Exactly. What's the incentive of this over the rs3
james hawkins Yeah, that's the point.
That's what I like! I think new cars has too much shape and looks like space ships. Germans cars looks much more refined. But that is my taste!
omar khan They are identical cars. It is no different from Buying a Ford Fusion or the suited up Lincoln MKZ. Luxury options my man.

I prefer million golf Rs than million RS3s
My GF loves my energy impact...
the body roll , wrx sti has none
On a real track 1/4 mile the golf r 2015 not faster than sti 2015.

Wait, the segment is named "silent but deadly?" Like a fart... just saying.
No thanks - I'd much rather have a BMW 2 series for significantly less money.
Why not put this into a cool looking sports sedan :-/ instead of this ugly mothers car I don't get that :((((
They did, it's called the Audi S3
The problem with this is the looks. It’s to bland for me
