  • The game of Go is thousands of years old - and it is still loved and played by millions around the world. I wanted to try to build a fully-functioning smart board, which can read and replay a near-unlimited number of pro games! Please enjoy and if you have questions, let me know in the comments!

    It's so enjoyable to see someone that happy in front of his working project haha :) , as an ancient coder, i got it. Even more when you had the same idea and wanted to see some examples online haha ( want to do something like this ! ) ... and when i say like this.. it's, exactly that xD .. I bet the moment the logic gate worked felt great.
    Such a cool project.

    Awesome work! Before I got deep into it I thought you might light any LED with an AND gate, if the LED on a particular row-col was (1,1) you got light. But I'm not an electronics person, that's probably way harder to wire wire up on a 19x19 than I can imagine.

    Very late but some "AI Physical Board" searches brought me here :D exceptional, exceptional work. Except for my high-school electrotechnical excercises, i'm more on the software side of tech. Even in complete weakness, i love Go but play in person is hard around here. Still i would like to avoid grinding OGS or Katago with mouse & keyboard. Was wondering if something similar would be doable with cameras & image recognition, but still i would need some lasers to reveal next or suggested moves :D i'll think a bit about it. Very inspiring video

    Since I've watched this video I've been trying to figure out how you could go about detecting the pieces.
    You could probably have the board toplit and then put a photodetector in each cell, and if light is detected it assumes there's no stone and if the light is being blocked it assumes there is a stone.
    All the extra components would probably require a custom pcb though.
    If that works you could almost try and hook it up to OGS or something and try and have an online game using a physical board.

    Awesome project, I love Go! It also reminds me of Stuff Made Here video of the smart pool table (ua-cam.com/video/vsTTXYxydOE/v-deo.html) which had the side benefit of allowing hybrid physical/remote gameplay. Someone could play against you remotely with a minor code change to receive socket data for the next move rather than reading from the file. You mentioned using the scroll wheel to input a move, but a much more expensive/painful implementation could involve adding an array of optical sensors (or buttons or something) to detect where stone are on the board. My first though was simple photo resistors, etc. to see the light reflected from the stone above, but I think "cross talk" from adjacent stone might be an issue. I don't think traditional Go stones are magnetic, otherwise reed switches could work. Anyway, I loved seeing our process and it's an awesome result and with so much extra potential!

    • @izzitMichaela
      @izzitMichaela  3 роки тому

      thanks for the feedback! Yes, that would be such a cool but painstaking extension haha. the 361 points would make it a real challenge to get all those photoresistors/magnet sensors/whatever I used in the right spots. Perhaps magnet sensor lattices exist pre-built but they're probably so expensive XD Either way yeah! Maybe someday I can get skilled enough to expand on it! Glad you liked it!
