Hey CP - just ordered the set - thank you for the demo - seems like a great session whistle. I sent Big Whistle a note giving you credit for influencing the purchase - I hope they will keep sending you more whistles and we will be getting more demos. Aloha from Texas!

@@CutiepieTinWhistle Anytime. Just watched you Pachelbel vid. I know Irish music is generally heterophonic - harmony and counterpoint are not part of tradition. But it is nice to hear whistle duet arrangements - even if tune is not traditional. Maybe that would change the canon? Bouzouki also was once outside the canon...

I’ve owned a Syn high D for years now. Wonderful sounding whistles indeed. My only gripe is I can only get a good Cnat using 0XXX00. See me? See fussy? 😂. Nice review Stephanie.

My 4 body Syn was just delivered. Wow - what a great great whistle. I only tested D body but impressions are very positive - loud and STABLE in low register (does not overblow) and very smooth in high notes - sails to B with slightest resistance. I would say it is quite a bit louder and easier to play than my Killarney D. I am a beginner and it is possible that Killarney simply requires better technique. But it could be that larger bore on Syn and beveled holes (possible because walls are thicker) make it easier to avoid squeaks. I am very happy with this whistle - THANK YOU very much for the review.
PS. Also - BigWhistle sent it the day after it was ordered, packed it well and it arrived in Austin, TX in 10 days.

Thanks for a really useful review. That projecting rivet might have the very useful function of stopping the whistle rolling off your table!

Bought one and love it...High D, more fun than a recorder and still able to play medieval tunes for my recreation group

I've not tried the low! They're lovely little whistles though! So easy to play!

I have had a C, D, e flat set for probably 5 years, although I forget how easy they are to play and how good they sound. Thanks for reminding me.

The little pin in the mouthpiece stops the whistle from rolling away.

I don't like the bigger holes. Many accidentals happen as result when I play them. It's not worth it to me to just have the one head. I would rather pay extra and have the whole whistle built around what I am accustom to. Also, I think you're spot on about needing good breath control. That being said, I've seen people match up with these well and sound fantastic. It's kind of a preference thing. But, they aren't for me.

Great review! In terms of savings, I think a single head and four bodies is a good solution, but I have a bit of septicism because we know that there is a direct relationship between the internal diameter of the tube and the diameter of the finger holes, so in my opinion Whistle Eb would have too large a tube and finger diameter, while Whiste Sib would have too small diameters. I don't know if it's explained well, what I want to say is that to make 4 flutes with different tonalities, compromises have to be made, the fact remains that they are excellent whistles but with slightly different and not homogeneous characteristics. This on a theoretical level but on a practical level, we should try them.

The finger holes are slightly larger than average on the Eb, which I guess is to compensate somewhat for the note diameter, I presume the length of the whistle might differ to other Eb whistles too 😊 I do have another Eb, I'll check to see the differences! x

I'm lucky to have a set of Syn whistles. I'm not playing so much Celtic music nowadays, but I really like these whistles. I think I'll go dig them out. I was lusting after a D Oz whistle, but they are now out of production and prices for used are astronomical - if you can find them.

These sound nice, but not sure I would want a full set. Do you mind if I ask a question? Out of the Killarney and Lir High D, which do you prefer? These are the two I am leaning towards as a purchase.

    • @CutiepieTinWhistle
      @CutiepieTinWhistle  3 роки тому

I personally prefer the Lir, but a few people have had trouble purchasing from them lately, where whistles have not turned up months after the orders were placed, so if you do order a Lir, get one from fluteshop.eu, or another site that holds stock (rather than ordering direct from Lir).
I think syn whistles are available in smaller sets, and probably individually too 👍

@@CutiepieTinWhistle Thanks very much for the reply, and for the advice. I too like the sound of the Lir, I will check out fluteshop, cheers. Hope the recorder playing is going well.

@@CutiepieTinWhistle they are available in smaller sets, I have a set with D, C and Bb and love them. I particularly like how sweet the D sounds in the upper octave. the only gripe I have would be how little breath it takes to play the bottom Bb it's too easy to slip up to the second Bb. That being said these a cracking good whistles.
