NOTE: The last timeline presented in the video is supposed to be the most extreme outcome for the shake of fun. As said earlier, I consider the first scenario the most likely outcome
I think that if north Japan attacked south Japan ww3 would have started. Both are too important to the Americans and soviets alike to let them fight without full direct intervention
Quagmire is the only real certainty in this scenario. China, DPRK&possibly others (Vietnam) could be dragged in. Consider the timeline, USSR's calamity in agriculture resulted in genocide (10's of M's of Ukrainians starved during the Holodmor). Even worse conditions would've spread across China&DPRK making them no more than cannon-fodder like soldiers from former Soviet Republics are currently being annihilated in Ukraine, Muscovites like Putin can hide from the result of his very "special military intervention😂?" Russia's running out of bare essentials like ball bearings they can't repair machines. 100s of miles of the train system they're 100% reliant on being shut down in sections daily. Assassination attempts improving...they blew up his body doubles ident'l limo in Moscow w Putin trailing by only a few cars last month😮❤! My apologies for rambling. As history has proven, the West would have such an enormous fin'l & military advantage it would be an epic bloodbath in the East. And yet again, world powers would re-draw borders for their own benefit w yrs of civil war b/w those forced to live amongst sworn enemies🤔...who were the idiot's that drew up Iraq😅? What if Spanish Loyalists in Peru managed to hold out and become a Dominion Style Government and kept the Spanish Monarchy after Spain became a Republic
Please make a video on this, I find the entire Middle Eastern theatre not really discussed often in alternate history. It would be amazing to see this topic put through the lens of your style of presentation, I find your videos very enjoyable. What if the Ottoman invasion of the Caucasus in WW1 was launched in spring and succeeded?
Hmm, though it sounds interesting at first, I don't really know how this would fundamentally change the outcome of the war or the post war borders of the region? What do you think could change in such a scenario?
Possibly the ottoman army retreating to eastern Azerbaijan, a independent Georgia, and Armenia, and could attempt to retake turkey, maybe the monarchy fleeing there
Thanks a lot for the comments man! I keep seeing you on not just my channel, but other fellow althist channels and it's really nice to see! It helps with the algorithm and motivates me to continue making videos, so thank you!
I would imagine that in this timeline the soviets would give north japan some of the kuril islands as a sign of goodwill. I also think that the war in japan wouldn't reflect the korea in otl as the video suggests. I believe that the south would be so strong that not even the soviet backed north would be able to push into tokyo or the highly populated and defensible central mountainous regions.
Don't think north japan will attack south like what north korea do. I think situation more like east and west Germany who remain static and more involved espionage conflicts
I absolutely love the idea but to be honest, I don't really know where I'd start with this Europe by that time was pretty much on the brink of an outbreak of another world war and just stopping it right before it was about to happen makes predicting into the future a whole lot more difficult
The german state was bankrupt in otl and only barely saved by czech and other foreign gold to repay debts for irresponsible and unsustainable spending. If germany stopped after the munich conference the economy would have entered a serious down spiral, causing extreme civil unrest, however I do not think that there would be any civil war or anything to the likes of which.
So Japan would take the place of Korea, with North Japan being a military dictatorship and South Japan being a wealth constitutional monarchy. If Japan remains divided, then would there be any effect on Vietnam? Could South Vietnam win the Vietnam War? Could we see a Beijing Pact and NPTO? How would the collapse of Communist regimes in Europe effect Asia?
Well, I don't really think the war in Vietnam was winnable for the US as guerilla wouldn't ever really stop Unless the US helps the French maintain control over their colony, which would be quite hypocritical for them to do, I don't see Vietnam going much differently, but it will most certainly have a much more radical impact on the US's mentality As for a Beijing pact, that is an interesting possibility, with China and Korea most definitely dominating the alliance, but NPTO is a stretch, considering that the only US ally in the region is South Japan (ROC/Taiwan doesn't count as the US wouldn't recognize them similar to our timeline) Generally this althist scenario has a lot of stuff to discuss which is why I picked it in the first place, I really enjoyed it
@@justagreekhistorian if operation downfall happened ww2 would much longer and Vietminh situation will be tricky for them because Japanese force in indochina will still in fighting mode
Niigata prefecture will become part of north japan because more likely for Soviet to landed on honshu from Niigata who more accessible than Aomori. Unlikely Soviet conquered entire Korea because they don't have much troops and resources to conquered whole peninsula in fact otl August storm when they tried to closed northern tip of Korea, they pretty much outnumbered and nearly annihilate by Japanese force there due to Stalin arrogance and underestimated Japanese forces. If Operation Downfall happened more likely Stalin choose to attack Japan at same time with US because Soviet actually bit reluctant to join pacific theater.
Eh that's also possible but I tried to make the video quite fun, and just saying "yeah guys, communist japan yay" is quite boring, so I did a best case scenario for the Soviets on that regard
Hmm interesting, I've never heard of such a division before The more common one is Communist North, Nationalist South, but Imperial North and Nationalist South is very interesting
@@justagreekhistorian tbh, as someone that's intrested in Chinese History I always wondered what implications would that bring. But then again, whether you want to make such a scenario or not is completely your choice
Well, if the Soviets go marching in there, it's not like the US can do anything about it and plus, the Americans would mostly want to focus on securing Japan rather than half of Korea
