There is no way that keyboard player suggested the cover of this song. He did so well trying what is arguably the greatest solo ever on any instrument
They were all fucking great, extra points to the drummer for keeping that groove.
Worse part about it is that Corey at 16 was playing just as good as he is today. Prodigy I swear but keyboards were great as well as the whole band. They're going places in music 😉

This is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. I am a professional songwriter, music teacher, and saxophonist and I WISH I had that type of talent at their age. Fantastic job all around. Very impressed.

I'm impressed with everything, not just the music. These kids are playing on professional-level instruments and whoever mic'd and mixed this is also using professional-level gear. Holy lord does it sound amazing.

I was stressed out for my man on keys, then the solo came along and he took the wise route of adapting it rather than facing it head on and I felt so relieved for him. Great performance.

This is amazing on so many levels. The nervous look on the players face does not match confidence they exhibit in their playing. This is such an ambitious song choice and it doesn't seem like the audience understands or appreciates how hard this song is to pull off. The Drummer has great feel and keeps good time, doesn't let the rhythm fall apart in that solo section... the bass player, despite her stiff posture does a great job keeping it in the pocket and not rushing too much. The guitar player is right there with them and the horns are absolutely solid. But that keyboard player needs to be given serious credit for learning that solo. That's one of the most difficult solos to play in contemporary jazz music and he did a great tribute to Cory Henry by learning it. (Even just on the right hand). Bravo!

Yes indeed, I think it's mostly musicians that can understand what snarky did with this one, and for these kids to approach and understand it. Let alone attempt to play it(and succeed)in front of cameras. Totally badass.

Dude didn't learn the solo, he did a really good job of approximating it. Everything these guys have is incredible. Check Adam Neely's take on the Cory Henry solo.

@@everyonesaidmynamewasstupi3713 on any other song yes, I agree. But I'm always amazed when people can do Cory's lingus solo note for note. Kids did an amazing job, and I dug his solo too, with its echos of cory.
Familiar licks from the solo plus improvised stuff he's comfortable with. I see no problem with it. Cory Henry is one of the kind and this kid managed to play it well enough for my enjoyment.
Bass and drums are just killing it. Tight AF between the two of them, solid groove from the drummer and some tasty tone and fills from the bass player. Keys solo was on point. Unison horns for the outro were spot on. Anyone dissing HS kids for flaws in what is an outstanding performance need to wind it in. Could you do this at their age? Could you do this at *your* age?

Unfortunately it sounds like either the keyboard player or someone else prerecorded the bass part over the original bass players part. Some of the stuff she's playing doesn't line up with her fingers

Wow man. I am shocked at the keyboard solo--takes a lot to even REMOTELY touch Cory Henry. Absolutely incredible work. PS the engineering on this recording is incredible for a stage setup. Props to everyone involved.

the ewi solo caught me SOOO off guard lmfao. spectacular job overall. I don't expect anyone to be able to nail Corey Henry's "solo of all solos," but the rest of the song was spot on. Can't imagine how much time and effort went into this.

Great cover! I had a band high school; this is probably the equivalent my band covering RTF's 'Musicmagic'...and I know we would not have pulled that off this well. He'll, how many full formed adult musician would have even the courage to go at this song, let alone the ability? The negative critics here have way too much to say...I don't recognize any of their names as successes in the music industry. These young musicians are light years ahead of the musicians of their parent's generation...

OK, one of the finest performances I have ever seen. Kudos to each of these incredible musicians, their teacher, and the sound engineer. Bear in mind that these are kids, high school students, who are also balancing their musical pursuits with school work, families and other teenage pursuits and not professional, full time musicians. Blown away!

Ugh, how often I regret reading the comments. All those critiquing the drummer, keyboardist should be more original, etc. So utterly ridiculous unless you were reviewing a professional show that you paid tickets for. This is simply astounding for a HS ensemble.

Aside from the fact that you guys played amazingly, I love the fact that it’s a legitimate COVER of the song, not just playing it. You guys added your own stuff to it and made your own unique “Lingus”. 10/10 would Spain again.

Killer cover, drums, bass, keys, the horns are killer. Love how the keyboard players played a bit of Spain in there. Touching on Corey is no easy feast. Props to the drummer and bass player holding down while playing all the parts and of course the horns are smoking. Now go make some original tracks. ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽
