The current game doesn’t feel like an mmorpg, it’s way too lonely. I would mind grinding with a party on a map together for increased bonuses and gains. Or party quests. It would give some alternative to the game. Also they should merge servers, no point in having 4..
I don't know about you but even as a non Assassin/Hermit player nothing represents classic MapleStory more than a set of ilbi throwing stars. They were like THE rare drop to dream of for sooooo long.
Current GMS is a very fun game, and I enjoy the visible progress that I make every day. The game right now definitely feels more like a game that rewards you much better for your time spent, but oldschool maple definitely had so many interesting skills that definited each of the limited classes, which ultimately led to some iconic metas that, although were basically all broken, were still all so memorable and good times. Or maybe, like everything, it might just be nostalgia. Nowadays, hectic action is favoured in games, but my experience with pre bb back in the day and recently with private servers makes me appreciate the juxtaposition of oldschool maple. Its more relaxed gameplay, bgm, 800x600 resolution, etc. truly gives me the feeling of home that gets me coming back to it once every while, and enjoy running around the map with no dailies on my mind, only quests to hand in. Nonetheless, simple or hectic, maple will always hold a special place in my heart for hopefully many more years to come!
I also think MapleStory has been fun to revisit after a 10 year hiatus. I first started on Bera when it was a brand new server. I think what would be a good change is for players to have a slight exp boost when in a map with another player even if they aren’t partied with them. In gold beach and the other low level theme dungeons, players can be in the same map fighting separate mobs. What if this was applied to all maps? Right now most players immediately cc when they see someone else. That’s something I think could change
The homogenized classes, the lack of incentives for party play, rare drops being moved from mobs to bosses, non-existent potion/meso management, etc are all good points I see when old MS is talked about. As someone who has always preferred classic but has given modern MS a fair shot, I can admit that I had some fun on GMS despite all those flaws. But after playing GMS for a year, I realized the things I hate about it the most are the damage inflation, the railroading of content towards the endgame, and the linearity of maps/mobs in general. None of which are unique problems to MS and sadly plague all old 2d korean MMOs that are still alive today (DFO, Latale, RO). Its sad that we must look to private servers to experience the version of these games at their best.
I still remember when grinding scarecrows and jesters from lol 55 or something But that being said from someone who tried playing up till pathfinder that it's really frustrating, I just want to grind past lvl 235 but to get the necessary upgrades to properly one hit monsters in designated areas is stupid hard Honestly if it weren't fore all the extra crap like legion and stuff that no one really like it would have been a lot easier to reach end game level grinding
my favorite memory was my first PQ, the idea of a bunch of players getting together to achieve a goal was very new to me at the time and was great, kpq specially, reaching the end and killing the king slime for the first time was great.
First time i saw maplestory was when my uncles would play it back in 2005 or 2006, when it was first released in NA. My uncle would let me play while he would go out with his friends and me being like 7 or 8 years old not knowing what to do just explored the whole map. I remember following a couple of players to sleepywood but on the way there i would die bc of the parkour and mixed golems. When my uncle would return back home he would get mad and scold me bc i was suppose to be leveling his character but instead had a whole adventure with strangers online xD
This is a great perspective. Seems like a lot of people vilify current or post big bang maple, when in reality it is much improved from old school in a lot of ways. My favorite part about old school maple is the old skill art styles and simplicity. Sure we have tons of huge flashy fun skills now, but the old Band of Thieves was my absolute favorite. And having a smaller effective range on most skills rather than being able to clear a map with a few clicks made every new skill with better range or mobbing feel more meaningful rather than reskin the gfx and add more damage. My ideal “old school maple” would lean heavily on the improvements/content made over time up to now, but bring back the old skill animations and cap at 4th job (maybe w/ hypers) lv200. Of course reworking the useless skills into more meaningful things (looking at you Endure), and general balancing, to add some flexibility while keeping the old identities.
I really miss the party quests cos that’s one of the best way to meet new friends and really interact with players. Just got back to maple now and honestly, I feel really lonely playing the game though it’s rewarding now. I miss the days where I’ll hang out with friends that I’ve never met in real life and just burn a lot of hours enjoying each other’s company.
As someone that just reinstalled Maplestory for the first time in 12 years probably my fondest memories were trying to train up my Page so I could hang out with my higher level friends more. I still remember my first time pre-Big Bang at around level 65 dodging my way down through Ludibrium to hang out with my I/L friend while she trained at Spirit Vikings.
I cant really put my finger on it, but its the damage numbers for me, ever since i played as a kid, once a year id get that itch to see the damage number stack up and high, other games show your damage in the same way but theres just that satisfying feeling to it in maple thats seared into my brain from when id wake up at 6 am before school in first grade to grind with my buddy before school
I really do missing the exploring part of maplestory. I can’t name the amount of times I went to places I shouldn’t have been in old maplestory. Now the new areas are closed off until you hit a certain level and everything is time gated. It would be cool if you could walk to the higher level maps but not tp to them maybe? I also miss party play. The only party play is bosses but even that doesn’t require much coordination other than binding with bursts. I really like slime’s test but slime doesn’t provide good enough rewards to make it worth doing it with a large struggle party. CPQ is pretty much the only relevant pq now but that’s just standing there and holding down a key.
I remember getting my hands on hacked accounts and making sure to stay logged in the entire day just so I could play them after school, since I wasn't the only one who knew the login. Speaking of which, I miss the old login theme. It really should play on the world/channel/character select screen. I also remember some jamokers opening monster bags in town and seeing the mass grave of players just chilling.
It’s funny because a lot of people say they want old maplestory back. It’s right there you know. There’s a big private server called maple legends that is basically the 5 explorer classes. The thing is when you go back you realize all the cracks and boring bits you don’t miss like missing a ton if you are a warrior. The game was special but we liked it because it was a social vehicle to the internet and that was really special back then. With discord and all these other ways to talk online, mmos had to step up and become actual intricate games rather than just a way for people to talk while grinding. I love old maplestory but every time I try to play legends I end up leaving before I even get second job. Great memories as always though.
I reread what I said I gotta say it sounds a lot meaner than I meant for it. I absolutely adore classic maplestory it’s just that being an adult leaves me with less time to enjoy the old game. I will come back from time to time :)
The problem with old school private servers is that they still have the issues old maple had, instead of doing what jagex did with osrs and smoothing out all of the bad while keeping the identity of the game intact through custom content and quality of life that is in line with the older vision without powercreeping features. I have yet to see an old maple server do that except for maybe Yeou. Royals and legends still have the garbage old scrolling system, they still have poorly balanced classes, they still have FMA mage metas, they still have the same NL bossing meta, they still have the same awful drop tables, they still have HP washing. None of that is why people liked old school maple, yet it's predominant and nobody tries to alleviate those issues. People pretend these issues are what made old school maple what it was when that's wrong. People want an official old school server like what osrs has done, not a server that is exactly as it was in v.62 without any fixes or new content added to it. When you go back to an old school server, yes you realize how flawed it was on a fundamental level, but that can be fixed, and modern maple isn't a remedy to that because it's not the same at all. Nexon just won't do it and they probably can't anyway.
I miss the party play zones, it was a neat idea I remember staying for hours training at the entrance to von leon’s castle, also speaking of classic training spots, haunted mansion! I remember you got there like at level 30 for scarecrows and moved to jesters
LHC is unfortunately something I have less than fond memories of. Being a phantom HS slave while a party of almost all Kaisers rip the map apart in seconds. Jesters on the other hand, I loved that place! It got a bit...toxic/competitive at times and it was only a matter of time before someone's bishop came to KS you out for their friend but I enjoyed it regardless lol
I agree with almost all your sentiments. I too started shortly after bera was created, took a break played again when the Mercedes/phantom/resistance were added, and am playing again and having alot of fun. But i whole heartedly agree with the idea that all classes getting double/triple jumps is unexciting. I remember when demon slayer had glide/fly and it was insane. Then xenon got 2 flash jumps and i was equally mind blown. But by far the biggest point you made that i agree with is the HP/defense being worthless. I think this system needs a complete revamp. Warriors should have the most HP and defense and be able to tank critical hits, and/or provide the party with survivability. Mages should be weak defenders but have magic guard and utility to the party, thieves should have high chance to avoid but be relatively flimsy if not. Pirates should be somewhere between warriors and thieves. Archers should have puppets/deception to avoid hits. My biggest pet peeve in the live game is bosses only instakill its unfun IMO. I have 80k hp and it doesnt matter it, i can get a status effect that locks my character, cant be cleansed, and then i insta die. As a standard i think all warriors should just take 20% less from hits, thieves standard avoid should be 33%. Etc. Theres too many classes to balance individually i think ehat ever your class type is should have a passive combat boost that is obvious across all jobs. Also its a little sad that party buffs are largely non-existent, or are exclusive to mages now. I miss getting haste, hyper body, and rage and becoming a unstoppable force in old school MS. I think at a minimum all classes should have at least one party buff so that partying is more encouraged
AWESOME video! Right in the nostalgia. I miss grinding in the old slime tree at level 10. Miss the old ship rides to orbis. Miss grinding for pan lids and kfans in the hhg. Great video!
I really appreciate your good use of both visual and sound fx, did not expect it at all for a channel with literally 3 digit subscribers, also loved realising that the tiny racoon gif running on the bottom of the vid was aligned with the percentage of the vid played, good job dude, keep up the great MS content, we sure as heck need it :) Subscribed!
My favorite part of old maple, or even currently running classic private servers; is the fact that you actually run into people. I tried going back to official maple twice and the game feels so empty it's unreal. There are too few people spread throughout too many servers, and the map is way too big now, with all players just being crammed into the same meta maps that a new player will never run across. I hop on a private server with only 2k people, and I run into people everywhere. Groups of people in any major city hanging out.
the thing about the class differences is true, but what i really felt resonating with me is the rare drops part. I remember one day I killed monsters for about 6 hours straight in order to get the recipe for an Angelic Blessing ring, it physically hurt, but it was worth it because now its a memory I wont forget any time soon.
That Mushmom comment, so true xD Killing Pianus just to get your lvl 10 skill book so you could actually out points in to your hard earned 4th job skills xD I really miss the exploration part of old Maple.. the sense of wonder when you just went somewhere, saw all the cool mobs, heard the amazing BGM and then emerging to a place where (like Gobies) someone 3rd job or higher was hunting and you got that "OH MY GOD, SOOO COOOL! IMA MAKE A SNIPER AS WELLL! :O" ^___^ Had a char stuck in Omega sector because of exploring at lvl 31 xD
The exploration was peak! I don't even think I enjoyed exploring in WoW for the first time as much as Maple. Falling into the golem pit for the first time, finding Pig Beach, climbing El Nath to Werewolves/Lycans hoping you'll get a lucky drop. Loved it all
The game has really gotten better. MapleStory PreBigBang is one of those few things where yeah, it really is just nostalgia. Ive tried a Private Server for Pre Big Bang and the game felt so slow and the classes were so basic and boring. The active and social community MapleStory once had is truly what made Pre Big Bang a great time to play.
The thing I miss the most from old Maplestory is... less RNG systems that screw you over/less predatory monetization. But really I feel like the soul f the game shifted drastically with the addition of potentials/cubes... It no longer felt the same afterwards.
One thing that i miss is definitely more party play and social stuff, thank god i have an active and social guild now but before i was struggling to find friends in reboot. Also what i love in atm in current maple is the banger bgms in arcane river and grandis even the boss bgms too!
for sure discords are awesome to have but meeting new people through games is a whole different vibe that we as a community of gamers should bring back.@@RathGMS
Speaking of rare drops, I was sad when crimson keep was updated and you couldn't get special equipment (aka casual wear) from them. But I think you can get special equipment from Ninja castle samurai mobs....unless that too was changed from the update some months(years) ago.
Dang, I remember job advancing to a bandit just to get a dinky little 2-hit savage blow and it took 7 whole levels before it was better than double stab. I'm so glad that lv1 skills are automatically usable now, that was such a strange design choice to have SB be worse for that long.
The biggest thing keeping me from coming back to OG maple is the hassle and hell to deal with Legion, Link skills, and star power. This games power creep now is so crazy high you will feel so incredibly weak without spending atleast 500+ hours.
I miss the pqs alot, they were really fun with friends years ago. Me and 2 of my friends just came back to the game about 2 weeks ago and I wish leveling together was viable but it seems slower and just not incentivized any more
There exist some maps pre 200 where you can swing two people (especially at low legion levels) but unfortunately once you gain power and are on capable classes it does become less viable. It'd be nice if it were a consistent viable option but I don't want it to go back to the LHC days where it was mandatory.
@@RathGMS yea exactly haha, i am gonna train at shaft 4 in edelstein around level 80 with my friend and see how that goes cuz it is one of the maps that gives 50% more when youre in a party
The sense of exploration definitely took a giant hit with things like the guide, easy to access teleport rocks and even just Pantheon/portals but man...I don't think I could go back, the QOL is just too nice.
I actually liked the slower pace. Lower level content used to matter. For example, I used to google quests to do that would reward gear or money that I would use for low level equipment. It used to take long enough to level that getting the gear was worth it. It used to be a literal journey to get to the place where you job advance. Some of my favorite memories included spending hours doing the prereq quests to do zakum and horntail and getting teams of several people together to beat it. It was kind of sad around the time I quit the game when those bosses could not only be beaten by 1 person, but beaten in mere seconds unless you get unlucky with the phys or magic shields.
I agree 100%. Just looking at the fotage in this video makes me cringe. Knowing that on another class it would look the same but the skill used would just be another colour.
really well made video, love the stance that you're speaking from. most of these videos just complain about how the game is easier now and how they miss the nostalgic aspects. we all miss things from old Maple, but times change and the game has to evolve for the times.
I actually enjoyed that the game was a lot harder, now it is only bosses that can show how good you are, but a big part of that is just about gear. Mobs was actaully dangerous, pots were expensive, traveling took time and mobs had exclusive drops. These things meant choosing your grind spot had a lot more impact and you could be lucky with drops, instead of now you just choose a map around your level and jump back and forth. I think this is some of the things that made PQs so special, since it was the easier alternative with decent exp and giving good rewards, even just potions was a useful reward.
i miss hidden streets they were always so cool usually they had some unique monster/drop or good xp or they just looked plain cool it was extra fun to investigate suspicious spots on maps hoping there would be one of them most have been taken out of the game though over time and even the ones left are near worthless since monster drops/xp are standardized and all the old maps have little time spent on them anyway also whos bright idea was it to reduce the boss timer to *just* enough so that its more of a DPS test then anything, bosses used to have timers that lasted far more then you needed , it was more important to have the will to win then the damage to succeed, I still remember seeing an old (2007?) video of a 3rd job white knight that solod horntail... in 11 and 1/2 hours, using apples the whole way
I played on and off after big bang. Maps were all empty so I thought game was dead. Playing the game at high level was truly lonely. On the off chance you encountered another person, one of you would quickly change channels because it wasn't efficient to train together. A mmorpg that discourages cooperation. The boss raids was controlled like organized crime. That's one thing I appreciate about newer games. There's no ****head who says who can and cannot join and when the raid will happen.
The only thing I miss is the sense of community and party play. Leveling together with players at Monster Carnival or Ludi PQ. Now people just log in and buy 2x exp coupons, use 10% exp potions, elven blessing, legion and other in game buffs and get to level 200 in a couple hours. Getting a level up doesn’t feel special anymore. On the other hand old maple was so frustrating, dying over and over again, hitting miss, doing low damage so your dps sucked and in turn your exp rate was shit, classes not having a mobbing skill and only hitting one monster at a time, potions being expensive, spamming Z, getting to level 30 took months if you didn’t have time to spend hours upon hours playing. Getting a class to 30 just to realize the 2nd job skills were shit and you don’t like the class. I feel like both eras have their flaws, but I can agree new school maple does have a better gameplay experience. You can relatively get to level 100 pretty fast without even knowing too much about the game and just sticking to quests. Things change and it’s hard to accept but Maple will never be like 2005-2008 ever again.
I'm not at my PC to give the exact names but the overall was from an event outfit selector coupon (it also gives big wings, horns and a big flat sword) and the cape is from surprise style boxes, it's called the Silver Wolf set.
I do also miss the "old maplestory" BUT what i dont get why people miss old maplestory is that they miss the concept of the old game. i tought the old concept was actually bad compare to today and after big bang. Back in the day, classes were wierdly built, Mages didnt need ANY accuracy, while a warrior was dependent on it! if a warrior didnt have the right amount dex at lvl 25-30 they couldnt hit monsters in KPQ or even monsters around the lvl 25, while other classes like mages and assassins could go easily skip 2nd stats and would miss out on anything, they would actually benefit on it more and get even more dmg. AND also some other thing i DONT MISS with old ms is HOW you unlock some 4th job skills! like Bishops, u needed to do horntail preq to get Genesis, Crossbow masters needed to have another archer with them to enter a dungeon in order to get the skill snipe. And warriors would need a mage to get Stance. There were A LOT of these stuff to do in order to unlock skills. SOME were realy annoying such as stance and snipe wich are important skills, but it was so hard sometimes to find someone to help you with it! And if you didnt have any NX (real life money) put in the game, you wouldnt been able to get your voice out with Smega to ask multiple characters, you could only ask in FM or in the guild... IN MY OPINION there are more negativ factors with old ms than positivs
I agree. There were good and bad aspects but people tend to focus on the good alone. It's also possible, and highly likely that many people didn't play long enough or grind to a high enough level to experience the actual flaws of the game. Either way I had fun then and I still have fun now.
Current maple is lonely. No one trains together. No one talks to each other. The combat across every class demolishes an entire map from level 30 and up. This is the definition of todays world. Instant gratification.
Rare drops, while I do love the idea of them... it's very difficult to implement them without being seen as essential that they're infuriating or rare but worthless (in the context of Reboot at least). Please excuse my wall of text, but the mention of rare drops from mobs reminded me of a bygone time, that wasn't that long ago for the playerbase in actuality. On topic of rare but worthless: You can still do the quest line that allows explorers to gain a specific Cygnus Knight skill. These skills are basically worthless but the drops required to get the skill are ridiculously rare. So achievement hunters do have options to go after extremely rare drops that have come with a "status" or are completely cosmetic. There are also certain rare "anvil" items which have no use except for their cosmetic look. Certain anvil items are extremely rare, discontinued, or both. On topic of relevant rare drops: Less than ~3 years ago, droplets were the rare item you speak of. They've since made droplets purchasable via meso & event coins, but prior to that they were a drop that gate kept most of the content in the game. I'm a Reboot player and the power level of the game back then basically relied on a player having an Arcane Weapon to participate in endgame content. And back then it required 240 droplets + 24 boss droplets to even purchase. With maxed out drop rate AND kill rates of 40k+ mobs an hour... you realistically saw 1 per hour. For reference, you'll clear at most 18k mobs per hour with current maps in the Arcane River in Reboot. To get anymore than 1 per hour was rare and it wasn't uncommon to go multiple grind sessions dry. So you were looking at a ~240+ hour grind just to have a weapon that would open the doors to more content, not to mention the weapon being a status symbol by itself. Even in regular servers, these droplets were worth quite a lot and were the "rare bonus" you'd get, but I don't think people want that system back as it made acquiring gear extremely frustrating due to the rarity of said drops and how badly gear was sought after. I do love rare drops, the feeling of getting pitched boss is incredible, but ask nearly any endgame player about their luck and it won't be long before one vents about how it's an infuriating system. The issues are only made more abundant with the current enhancement systems, but I digress... The point being that rarity and relevant to progression are a nasty mix and do not bode well for player attitude towards that system/element/item. I don't believe there is a feasible way to implement rare drops that have value to progression without causing frustration. Cosmetic rare drops would probably be a viable solution to this, as a well designed cosmetic could incite that passion to go hunt for it. I've spent my fair amount of time hunting rare items to anvil over my gear, but again that's a niche aspect of the game and not everyone becomes a collector.
Whenever someone says "I want OSMS" what they're trying to say is they want to cherry pick features from the game's history and trim the fat. There's a lot of feature bloat in the game right now, and that also means there's a lot of functionally unused content. When is the last time you went to pet park? Free Market is useless now. The minigame zone is barren. Any boss under level 200 will never see an actual party against it. When is the last time you even went to Perion, even? There's just so much.
Idk how you could enjoy current state of maple. I really try to but the amount of tedious things that they really have no excuse not to fix turns me off. How are they going to make legion a necessity and yet make alt characters such a chore? Boss pre quests… unskippable content that’s incredibly boring to replay… annoying pop up quests that you have to click on to get rid of (maple houses at lvl 200). It’s inexcusable for me. It’s the reason I’ll never support the game. They resort to shady tactics like forcing us to do mind numbing things in order to up player time spent in game to increase first glance value for stock holders and investors. Do you ever wonder why one of the dailies in maplestory is to just sit in place for 30 minutes? Because it looks good for player time. I’ll never respect a game that does something like that. Every time I come back to the game because a new event is out or something, I can only bare it for a couple of days before I’m bombarded with the reasons I stopped playing. It practically forces you to have an unhealthy relationship with it. And I don’t have time in my life for unhealthy relationships with anything. Video games, people, etc. I’m not going to be playing a game that worsens my quality of life. That is what they’re trying to get you hooked on. A game that literally makes your life worse. A game that could’ve improved your life, connected you to people all across the world in fun and unique ways, taught meaningful stories and lessons, gave you a healthy break in your day, etc, if all they didn’t care about was money and ways to addict you to it. When I look at maplestory, I genuinely see something that could’ve been beautiful rotting to its core because of people that just want money. Wasted potential. A leech sucking off of people that are desperately looking for a distraction from their day to day. Idk how I could enjoy that.
miss the pq in ludi. The one where you would beat the other team to defeat the most monsters. HIgher level players would always win. And seeing a lvl 40 to 50 would mean instant loss for you lol. Also lvl 80 ppl were like celebs. lvl 100 plus were gods lol
new maplestory is someone with epilepsy's worst nightmare. also maplestory isn't the only one that suffers from this, but when you have such high damage output it feels like the numbers just blur together and become meaningless. same with some currency inflation in certain games
9:05 that’s cap bro. Getting Savage Blow at level 30 was the biggest let down for me. It only hit twice at level 1 and I think dealt less damage than Double Stab. You had to get level 21 Savage Blow before it hit 6 times I think.
Yeah it’s becoming a bit embarrassing whenever I talk about old maple on the server. The weird reality is that old maple wasn’t there for that long compared to new maple lol 😅
I disagree. Everything you listed made old MS better. Yes, the grind was truly a GRIND... but... the mechanics of needing to grind to level in itself is pretty stupid and grinding still exists today. The only thing is... it's easier to grind now because everyone has full-map attacks. Which... IMO, is a negative. Old MS was good, they simply screwed up the 3rd job stuff because it made everything into a grind. With 3rd job, they started focusing more on creating new classes and upgrading items instead of opening up new areas and monsters and adding more party quests. They also needed to fix the party EXP share mechanics. BUT, even with those deficiencies, I still think old MS was better. New MS gives you hypermobility and full map attacks to everyone which is just... dumb
the biggest problem is that the world is big but feels so empty. I see now and then other players but they are like npc's. its more like a story mode game than an mmorpg. We need more event to do with other players. something like pvp was also cool backthan with bigbang but with the current classes it is impossible I think. another thing is 1-200 is useless. backthan level 10,30,50 all levels had their own special things and I didn't mind to stay level 50 for weeks. Items backthan also had more meaning. now when I drop a 30level wep I can use it until 100 cause the dealing damage is no problem anymore. Party leveling was cool with the lionheart castle
MS used to be a MMORPG. Now it is just an ordinary ORPG. You can solo all the content and people don't feel motivated to party play because there's no direct advantage on that. It's sad that they could make the game better just giving better rewards for party playing but instead they only wish to make it a lonely experience.
Millennials made old Maplestory fun. We were the last gen that grew up outside, so we still had a sense of working together (working in parties). Gen Z wouldn’t last playing without looking at those crazy attack numbers. Maplestory had to revolutionize due to the low attention span of Gen Z.
no one in this types of videos talk about the whole Free Market experience which is kind of disappointing. back then MapleStory wasn't just a game it was super unique! a huge World. now its just like any other game or even worse. MapleStory died when they decided to make it a Solo Game. was fun tho and if they ever gonna make an Official Classic MapleStory i would jump right in with no second thought and i'm sure it will end up being more successful then the correct version.
Me personally, I don't miss it at all. While I was a FM goblin and spent LOADS of time there getting rich off flipping and searching for stuff I had no concept of solo self found or rather no trading limitations in games. And now that I've experienced it I never want to go back.
@@RathGMS FM experience goes right along with a lot of the old things we miss. It's all nostalgia and the impact it had on us as kids first discovering what felt like a truly massive online community. I remember pumping hours into Basil Market auctions before eventually spending real money on an FM stall. Again, it was memorable but there's no way in hell I would want to go through that now. I play reboot so I get the "solo game" comment but I also interact with people every day. I even had an organic experience of meeting someone around lv50-60 and we found each other again when we had both grinded to 120 or so a couple days later. We've been progressing together ever since. Maple is still Maple but it's modernized itself to be a real playable version of the clunky mess we all grew to love.
No disrespect but i will have to disagree that the game has changed for the better. You can literally play the game for a few days/weeks and level up so fast alone its ridiculous. Old school MS was special in the way where you needed other jobs/a party in order to get things done. Every class was unique and needed in different ways. Todays MS feels empty and boring imo.
I hate modern maple gameplay and aesthetic so much that I haven't been able to come back since kaiser. It's just too flashy, everyone is insanely fast and the skill effects bloat up the screen. Everyone having skills with insane range and crazy vertical mobility makes all of the classes feel like "do-all" samey crap, you're basically flying across the screen by lv30. Old maple maps were designed in a way that made it better to grind in a party simply because of the layout and spawn rate, and many of them encouraged you to discover shortcuts to somewhat get around the slow pace. You couldn't keep the spawn rate up by yourself so it was better to have other players come in and take a platform for themselves, now you don't need that anymore because of the mobility, aoe, and conveniently designed maps. I miss how humble and simple the old animations, skill effects, armor design and cash shop clothes were. Now everything seems like it was made for people with severe ADHD and I can't get into it no matter how much I try. Too many radical changes, it's barely the same game anymore. It just has a similar art style but even the art style was changed. Basically nothing they've added in the past 8 years hs been faithful to the original idea of the game. Instead of fixing the serious problems old maple had they just constantly revamped and rehashed everything until it no longer resembled what it once was. Imo the post big bang era up to around the chaos or even the red patch were peak maple for me.
The current game doesn’t feel like an mmorpg, it’s way too lonely. I would mind grinding with a party on a map together for increased bonuses and gains. Or party quests. It would give some alternative to the game. Also they should merge servers, no point in having 4..
I miss the old Maple Anniversary event drops. There was no better feeling than grinding for hours to get a Maple item drop!
I don't know about you but even as a non Assassin/Hermit player nothing represents classic MapleStory more than a set of ilbi throwing stars. They were like THE rare drop to dream of for sooooo long.
For me it’s the +8-12 WG or Zakum helm in 2007.
Oh man. I never did find a panlid. Sooooo many green mushrooms
Dexless Thieves was the craziest thing we had back in the days lol. Sauna robes and snow shoes
I still remember when grinding scarecrows and jesters from lol 55 or something
But that being said from someone who tried playing up till pathfinder that it's really frustrating, I just want to grind past lvl 235 but to get the necessary upgrades to properly one hit monsters in designated areas is stupid hard
Honestly if it weren't fore all the extra crap like legion and stuff that no one really like it would have been a lot easier to reach end game level grinding
my favorite memory was my first PQ, the idea of a bunch of players getting together to achieve a goal was very new to me at the time and was great, kpq specially, reaching the end and killing the king slime for the first time was great.
CPQ is pretty much the only relevant pq now but that’s just standing there and holding down a key.
things I miss:
the game being fun
everyone else having fun
the simple world we lived in
i dont have time to play pc maplestory anymore, im so glad they have maplestory on mobile it helps with this nostalgia
Favorite memory was ice throne in memplemas or going to scarecrows to grind on a bishop and everyone wanting a HH carry
@@Goresmog that’s so true wow you said it perfectly
Xenon imo has the best most fun mobility. Double flash jump, double diagonal jump and it can literally fly.
I really appreciate your good use of both visual and sound fx, did not expect it at all for a channel with literally 3 digit subscribers, also loved realising that the tiny racoon gif running on the bottom of the vid was aligned with the percentage of the vid played, good job dude, keep up the great MS content, we sure as heck need it :)

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words!
With the jump dash kills our favorite mounts.
Thinking about training at TJs sends chills down my spine hahah. Spend many hours there. PQs were a unique part of a game
Kerning pq, Ludi pq, Monster carnaval were all fire. to bad stuff like that isnt around anymore..
That Mushmom comment, so true xD Killing Pianus just to get your lvl 10 skill book so you could actually out points in to your hard earned 4th job skills xD
I really miss the exploration part of old Maple.. the sense of wonder when you just went somewhere, saw all the cool mobs, heard the amazing BGM and then emerging to a place where (like Gobies) someone 3rd job or higher was hunting and you got that "OH MY GOD, SOOO COOOL!
It no longer felt the same afterwards.
i remember being like 8 and having a full strength theif because in my mind strength and power were synonymous and who wouldnt want to do more damage
My very first character (magician) had strength so I could level easier in Maple Island...People told me to do it and I trusted them lol
One thing that i miss is definitely more party play and social stuff, thank god i have an active and social guild now but before i was struggling to find friends in reboot.
Also what i love in atm in current maple is the banger bgms in arcane river and grandis even the boss bgms too!
That's true, but I honestly feel this loss in just about every MMO. Socializing has more or less moved outside of the games and into Discord.
for sure discords are awesome to have but meeting new people through games is a whole different vibe that we as a community of gamers should bring back.@@RathGMS
Speaking of rare drops, I was sad when crimson keep was updated and you couldn't get special equipment (aka casual wear) from them. But I think you can get special equipment from Ninja castle samurai mobs....unless that too was changed from the update some months(years) ago.
I think something like this is still around but I never went there to try for myself.
Started on Broa here when pirate first came out. I don’t miss the grind, but the fun of meeting people and exploring was the best.
The sense of exploration definitely took a giant hit with things like the guide, easy to access teleport rocks and even just Pantheon/portals but man...I don't think I could go back, the QOL is just too nice.
@@RathGMS I agree, everything just feels and looks better lol
@@LHH404 It's disgusting and it's barely maple, just some other game wearing it's skin as a suit.
really well made video, love the stance that you're speaking from. most of these videos just complain about how the game is easier now and how they miss the nostalgic aspects. we all miss things from old Maple, but times change and the game has to evolve for the times.
I think this is some of the things that made PQs so special, since it was the easier alternative with decent exp and giving good rewards, even just potions was a useful reward.
i miss hidden streets they were always so cool
usually they had some unique monster/drop or good xp or they just looked plain cool
it was extra fun to investigate suspicious spots on maps hoping there would be one of them
most have been taken out of the game though over time and even the ones left are near worthless since monster drops/xp are standardized and all the old maps have little time spent on them anyway
also whos bright idea was it to reduce the boss timer to *just* enough so that its more of a DPS test then anything, bosses used to have timers that lasted far more then you needed , it was more important to have the will to win then the damage to succeed, I still remember seeing an old (2007?) video of a 3rd job white knight that solod horntail... in 11 and 1/2 hours, using apples the whole way
I had a DK on Windia, best days of my life
Small thing, cernium and above maps don't do 1 damage. I've definitely died more than I care to admit on my way to 285. I love odium ebosses
Maybe not right away but I gotta imagine just like with Arcane Force it becomes 1 again.
@@RathGMS Nah, it stays at 100% damage dealt to the player even with max sac bonus
I miss old maplestory... so much
The only thing I miss is the sense of community and party play.
I'm playing a Bucc and I love the look of the Bucc you showed near the beginning. What was he wearing?
The game at its core might be better, but what good is a game that is finally got better, when there's no one left to play it with 😢
Current maple is lonely.
On topic of rare but worthless:
You can still do the quest line that allows explorers to gain a specific Cygnus Knight skill.
On topic of relevant rare drops:
Less than ~3 years ago, droplets were the rare item you speak of.
Getting summoning sacks from quests and using them to kill players XD
Bonus points if you find a high level afk player and you kill him with those
THE GOAT CONTENT CREATOR AXIOM TO THE MOON 🚀🌑
i play mapleroyals here and there and i remember it being much harder lol, its still hard dont get me wrong
My Kanna used to be 400K HP now is 350K
Probably in the minority but i personally miss the ui. I always loved the prebb ui lol
9:05 that’s cap bro. Getting Savage Blow at level 30 was the biggest let down for me. It only hit twice at level 1 and I think dealt less damage than Double Stab. You had to get level 21 Savage Blow before it hit 6 times I think.
I miss the mooncake PQ
The player numbers says otherwise.
It's sad that they could make the game better just giving better rewards for party playing but instead they only wish to make it a lonely experience.
panlid 😃
Millennials made old Maplestory fun. We were the last gen that grew up outside, so we still had a sense of working together (working in parties). Gen Z wouldn’t last playing without looking at those crazy attack numbers. Maplestory had to revolutionize due to the low attention span of Gen Z.
Maple should make a old school version .. new maple sucks
no one in this types of videos talk about the whole Free Market experience which is kind of disappointing. back then MapleStory wasn't just a game it was super unique! a huge World. now its just like any other game or even worse.
Takes longer to get to 300 in modern ms than it ever took to get to 200 in classic
