Jeeze watched twice. TV must be crap
Love that thank you. Beat 60mins of video i have watched in a long time.. .
Every informative and funny at the same time .
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed. It will be great when we can all return to the trails after we get through this pandemic.
fantastic upload !! I walked the PW 40 years ago in 1979 when I was a 20 y o. what memories you bought back and it was fascinating to see the difference that time has made.dont worry I`m not a "things were better in my day" person.i think the modern GPS and Sat Nav technology are a good thing as it makes wild places more accessible and walking safer. The route changes are also huge.We went over Kinder Scout on day 1 and also had to navigate Black Moss and White Moss. Also there were no artificial paths ,but even then the erosion had become a problem . We did the whole thing in 14 days-not because we were in any way gung-ho but because we only go 2 weeks summer holiday! once again thanks
Glad it brought back some good memories for you, but you've still plenty of time to make more memories of course... so wheres your next long hike?
I did the same when I was 21 in 1973. Black Moss and White Moss were very difficult both for the erosion and the bog,s. We had passed an old guy of 65 who sunk up to his hips in the bog. Luckily we had only recently passed him so we saw what had happened we went back and pulled him out.
Thank you for posting your trip through the Pennine Way. You are very inspiring and you did a great job filming it.
+Dog Spiritus
Cheers. Glad you enjoyed it.
Top drawer!
I really enjoyed watching this. I'm going to start saving the pennies, to do the Pennine Way.
You will love it! Half the fun is the preparation, 48 percent is the drinking,, 2 percent is the carrying!
Enjoying these videos man, thanks for your hard work filming on this walk!
A great series of videos - thanks for them
Glad you like them!
My favourite walk, with my favourite music....Secret Garden.....Great video
Yeh I love the music. When I hear it all the memories of the walk comes back. The Pennine Way walk was one of the best things I have ever experienced....and Im saying that as someone who's seen Bowie live and held the European Cup after another LFC win!
@@PloddersLost years ago there was a book 'pubs on the pennine way'.....your walk reminded me of that🤣 few of them are closed now unfortunately.
There always the Ales Way
@@PloddersLost now that could be a good day's walk😉
Introducing...the Pennine Way pub crawl. Love it.
Is it that obvious, I thought Id hidden it well amongst the other footage.
Thanks Colin. Great video mate. Your knowledge of these landmarks is superb, especially Top Withens ;-)
I wouldnt say that, Id say by ability to bullshit on the hoof was ok though.
Great video -thank you so much! My Mum used to live in a house not 100yards from one small part of the Pennine Way. And Kinder Scout -love the place. My Dad used to take me up there when I was a nipper. He said it would "blow the cobwebs away" It certainly did :D Thanks for a good video! All the best.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Great upload, thanks for sharing. And as far as the watering holes go, definitely a man after my own heart!
Yes , whats the point of a hard walk if you cant have a pint?
@@PloddersLost Or Three! You'd like the Tatra mountains in Slovenia (maybe you've been) beautiful hikes and very very cheap beer €1.50 or thereabouts for a pint. Highly recommended. Very nice people too.
Just come across this video of yours. Excellent footage of part of your trip.Looking foreward to watching part 2 and 3
Cheers. Hope you enjoy the rest, although the PW is my favourite as it was the most painful.
Well done Colin, did the PW in 1981,13 day, weather was dreadful, met some great characters, the 2nd tank regiment were a good laugh...up the clarets, the Burnley ones
Its truly a great trail. Loved it.... best pub crawl Ive been on.
I revisited Dufton last October 2019, and still found the climb upto Cross fell a killer,as I near to retirement,I can feel the numerous long distance walks calling me,want to do the Pw again, but smaller ones 1st,Cleveland way,saw dean read, another you tube do it recently, then the coast to coast ,Wiltshire man Sandy, another you tuber,a bit so a character like you,do the walk, and then hopefully the PW,ps did you ever finish/revisit the cape wraith trail??
last time i was up at wessendon valley a couple of apache helicopters came down the valley was a nice sight!
Hi mate , just watching your videos now for first time, like your dry humour , I figure you are ex military maybe Royal Navy??? Good videos and I’m hoping to do this trail this year2022. Also lands end to john o groats in May by tourer bike , bike packing! Thanks for inspiration 👍🏻🙏🏻
Started watching your series,I did it back in 1990,youv'e brought it all back to life again mate,28 years & 2 new knees I wonder if I can manage it again, thanks from another Colin.
I'm sorry to hear that watching my series is forcing you to relive the 1990s. I'm still stuck in the 80s, especially my music tastes!
There's nowt wrong with 80's music mate,Atb keep putting one foot in front of the other,by the way your'e now big in Japan my son watching it,he lives in Tokyo.
Was the pun intended?...'Big in Japan', Alphaville 1984.
Thanks for the reply mate, great videos, you certainly know your 80s music,Atb Colin P.
Never commented on a youtube video before but I stumbled on your channel today and I've got to take my hat off to you mate. This really takes me back. Did the PW back in 1988 with my mate, we were 18 at the time, think we did it in 16 days. I live in Korea now but i miss the UK something rotten. These vids made me homesick but i love them. Film quality is great and your commentary is fantastic. Your nights stopping off for pints of beer is exactly the way I'd do it myself. Again, thanks mate. If i could buy you a pint, I would. Cheers!
Cheers glad you enjoy the vids. You must be able to explore the wildness of Korea all be it with out the same pubs at the end of the day, and maybe a few extra critters in and out of your tent.
We enjoy the odd wildcamp from time to time. It's lovely here too Korean mountains are mostly forested, very different from our grass covered mountains. I think my next visit home to the UK might include a Pennine Way trip. Anyway, thanks for your reply and all your effort with the vids.
No probs. As soon as I am able I will do some more walks and vids as theres nothing better that my wifes love to do other than watch me jibbering on about bugger all whilst Im lost on some hills.
love the drone shots. subbed
This is very well done - the HD quality of the GoPro and Plodder's dry narration - really enjoyed it...I originally planned to do the PW when I was about 18....I'm finally doing it this year...I'm a film-maker myself and plan to film it with a few cameras (and a small crew) - my angle would be to concentrate on interesting information relating to where I am latitudinally with regards to other places on the planet as well as our own British Cities etc. I've climbed all over the world but I still haven't done the PW yet. Well done, Plodder.
+crofton82
Cheers. You will really enjoy it , but make sure your small crew carry your back pack too. More fun that way. Sounds like a good angle you've got, problem for me with such an angle is that most of the time i wasn't sure where I was never mind anywhere else!
Enjoyed every minute ---- Thank you :)
Glad you enjoyed it. Its a great walk.
Very nice your channel! I'm using it to plan my hike in Pennine and to learn english using the movies in a mp3 audio. Cheers
Good luck with your hiking and learning English.
that was brill nice one some good tips for me and my mate tim when we do it next year thanks
+william spedding
yes i would like to know that what month did you walk it or did i miss that bit
+william spedding
Started on 1st June 2015
i have watched part one and two, and now i am looking forward to part three, i would like to know what tent and the solar charger you are using, i have a power monkey solar charger but its not reliable.
+midlands hammock camper
The tent I used was a Vango Tempest 200. Got it a Go Outdoor for £80. Excellent tent plenty of room weighs 2.9 kilos. Plenty of room inside for 2 peeps. and Large front porch for your wet kit and cooking etc. Carried a light ground sheet too to protect the base from sharp objects. You put the outer tent up first then climb in to put up the inner, which is great when its raining.
The charger is a PortaPow Version 2 rainproof 7W USB Solar Charge from Amazon £22. Brilliant piece of kit. Charges on dull days too. Charged my phone and Go pro whilst walking.
Loved the film, just beginning to do the research on the trail (did the C2C 2 years ago), did you run into many others doing the the full trail?
Yes there were a few other doing the full trail so I bumped into them occasionally at the pubs along the route. It was nice to chat and discuss the days walk etc. But mainly it was nice to have a pint with company. Enjoy your trip when you go.
Hi Colin I love your videos always makes me smile, I’m hoping I can do the PW this year but I’ve been told that the first campsite in Crowden is staying closed for the rest of the year, and the pub in Standedge is also closed it shut up before this CV19 came in. So It looks like I may have to wild camp for the first two stages. 😩 Do you remember any good spots just before Crowden and before or after Standedge.
Thanks Carl
Let me check it out see if I can remember anything for you.
I'm setting off soon to do it- I had already booked it months before CV19 but have had to book more nights B&B than intended as some of the campsites are not opening back up (The Diggle Hotel opens 4th July if that's any help?)
Anyway- here's hoping!
Hope you had a great time
Thanks for you videos ,They are a treat to watch, You where blessed with the weather,Ive walked the PW a few times and it was hit and miss with the weather ,But it was still lovely countryside to walk in,
Can i ask what is the name or where did you get the video for the introduction of each stage on your walk ,Its very good ,Better than a lot of PW videos,
Finally ive noticed a bit of a scouse twang am i right ?.
Regards,
+Billy Mills
Despite having lived away from my home City for over 20 years I still cant lose the freaking accent. Its probably just as well as it comes permanently attached to my humour which keeps me going on the most miserable of days.
The intro was from an old DVD I came across, which was given away free with 'Country Walking'.....10 years ago! No specific name just Pennine Way From The Air. But not the video one you can get from Aerial Britain
Thanks for your reply .I thought you were one of us .I think I have the Aerial Britain one but not as good as yours .Any way your videos are top notch .I'm just watch your C-Coast one now .
Best wishes .Keep up the walking and videos .Who know may bump into you one day on my walks
Billy

Coast to Coast was first ever long walk! 2012. The West Highland Way 2013, with the smattering of other small plods dotted around them, then The Pennine Way 2015. You will see the video quality change for PW and Blencathra, not necessarily the filming!
Yes my first long distance walk was also the Coast to Coast then Pennine Way, Then West Highland Way My last big walk was again in 2013 The Pennine Way. So hoping to do another long distance walk this year .Once you complete a big walk you cannot stop walking more long distance walks !!
Really enjoying your series, I agree with comment below, so much better than the BBC's.
Also which music is that playing at the beginning and throughout? Thanks.
+Oneleyness B
Glad you enjoyed them. You will really enjoy the walk. I still enjoy the odd glimpse at the films to remind me of how much fun it was ...at times.
Music Breacons and Big Sky
+Plodders Lost Thanks very much, Im sure I will.
Very enjoyable video, informative and easy to watch. Very clear footage, what was it filmed on if you don't mind me asking ?
It was filmed on a gopro hero 4. Easy to carry, not so easy to edit afterwards though. Theres cheaper cameras on the market that would do just as good a job.
Cheers Mate thanks
Is that Cove where some of Harry Potter was filmed ??
Yes but which film, I have no idea. I think I refer to it in one of my Plodding The Dales films.
what date did you do the walk and how many days? kiwis coiming to do PW.
I started at the begining of June and took a leisurely 18 days to do it. It can be done a lot quicker if you are time limited and not carrying a heavy back pack. Enjoy !
Plodders Lost we will take about the same time and planning July. Did you find you were walking in wet boots each day?
I think I mention on the video towards the last few days when I thought my boots would start getting wet due to the marshy type of terrain, but they held out ok (Leather Gortex lined). Light weight synthetic boots with seal skin type socks maybe the way to go as when my leather boots do get wet they weight alot and take ages to dry out. Enjoy the trip you'll love it. "Stick to the road, keep off the moors!" (Name the film).
@@PloddersLost i have goretex lined boots, so should be ok. "stick to the roads. keep off the moors??"
That was the advice given to a couple of walkers who wandered in to the Slaughtered Lamb Pub, by the locals, in the film "An American Werewolf in London". If you havent seen the movie you wont recognise the quote. Have fun.
Alun
Liked your version more than the BBC's. Thanks.
Alun thanks for feedback glad you enjoyed it. I cant seem to publish your comment on UA-cam or reply direct via Gmail. You may have hit private button when submitting so I've left your surname off this comment in case you didnt want to be public. Cheers Plodder
What month were you walking through Crowden for it to be freezing cold?
+Ciaran Guilfoyle
Yes June this year 2015. Believe me it was freezing, which I wasnt expecting. Think I was lucky with dry weather but it was a lot colder than usual. Think I mention trying to sleep with all my clothes on, and gloves and hat and still being too cold! Made the mistake of swapping my sleeping bag for a light weight one after a few days then swapping it back as soon as I could. Extra weight or extra cold? Go for the extra weight.
Any reason why the videos of PW can no longer be viewed?
John Ive just checked and they still play. It maybe that you are using an Apple device to view, or a mobile phone or tablet, sometimes the videos dont play well on those type of platforms, but if you go to the settings on you device in the you tube app you can view as 'desktop', and that lets you view as if you are watching on a desktop computer. If not try using your browser to find you tube website and again in the settings it gives you an option of request desktop site. Android and Apple use apps which present the websites slightly differently than windows and this often causes it not to play. Hope that helps.
Got to 51 minutes and you finally give the answer: June.
+Ciaran Guilfoyle what was that
