    Great! So nice to have all chords in 1 video :)
    There is also 1 nice trick for the 7th chords. Sometimes it's not that obvious what is the 7th step of the scale if you don't know the scale, let's say D major scale. To find the 7th for Dmaj7 just go 1 semitone to the left from D - and it's C# (So Dmaj7=D F# A C#).
    With minor 7th it's similar but with 2 semitones to the left. So From D, 2 semitones to the left is C (Dmin7=D F A C). Some time ago I created a video about it so feel free to check it out :)
    it's quite useful when you want to quickly find the 7th :)

    Thanks Lisa! But the missing bit of information is that it's the 3rd and 5th note FROM THE SCALE! For example, the first 3 notes in the scale of D are D (1), Fsharp (3) and A (5). If you flatten the 3rd to get D, F and A you now have D minor. I'm sure this is obvious to some, but if, like me, you made your first triad on C, then made your next on D (which will be D minor)... but you then tried to flatten it using the minor rule on the chart (ie flatten the 3rd) then it doesn't work! You have to know that when you get to the D you must now think of the notes in the scale of D.

    Hey Lisa and Pianote Team,
    Thanks again for another super helpful video!
    My question is about the fingering for the four note chords. Some shapes are really awkward to make, especially with stubby fingers. Is there a formula or do I just have to get my stretch on? Can some keys be played with the left hand? Like maybe the 1? I notice that the 1 is never flatted or sharped.

    This is possibly a really daft question, but are the chords the same for the left hand as they are for the right? I'm confused!

  • @debbielewis6479
    @debbielewis6479 2 роки тому +1

    Yes, I found this very helpful. I knew part of it, but you explained some of the chords that I never "bothered" with. But, I can see/hear from your lesson today how important it is to learn these other chords.
    It's amazing how much better a song sounds by just learning, for instance, the C7 chord. As an example, the song "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" sounds so much better with just that one chord change (in appropriate places in the song). Applying alternate chords can/does change the "feel" of a song.
    You are such a joy as a teacher; your enthusiasm is contagious. I'm new to your channel; just subscribed last week. Just as feedback to you, I stumbled onto your channel through a TikTok video. I'm planning to spend time going through your previous UA-cam and TikTok videos. Do you have another channel where you just play piano music instead of teaching the music?
    Hope you have a great weekend. 🙂

Now I’m hesitant. If it’s gonna go this fast, I’m gonna get lost. What should I do? This is why I failed out of most of my music classes in college. They were going so fast and I had no foundation of it all.
