The men and women of that generation were all amazing people. The women learned to handle life on their own due to being without the men who were away. They farmed farms, drove them old trucks, and worked at so many jobs in the war industries. And of course, we know what the guys were doing in all aspects of the jobs needed to fight a war. And we didn't hear much about it from any of them. They just said they were doing what needed done. Grand people as far as I am concerned.
Morris was considered by the Navy as physically 'too big' to fly fighters. After being turned down several times as a fighter pilot, he went to his uncle-in-law, Commander David McCampbell, imploring him for the chance to fly fighters. McCampbell said "Give me a letter." He flew the F6F Hellcat off the aircraft carrier USS Essex with Fighter Squadron 15 (VF-15), the famed "McCampbell Heroes." (Wikipedia). He was awarded 4 Distinguished Flying Cross medals while serving. Resting in Arlington National Cemetery.
Usually, people went to their connections to get out of going into Combat, this is why this man is part of the Greatest Generation, May God Bless him and those like him who saved the World from Nazi rule. RIP Sir
Back when PTSD was called shell shocked and the cure was to suck it up and keep fighting. These men saw some of the most horrendous things known to man and kept on fighting. RIP Wayne. Died way to young.
He died on the flight deck of a ship, which was the greatest place for him. My daddy was in the Navy for 23 years and he died on a cruise at sea, where his heart was. He died of a massive heart attack, but that man love to see Survey in Vietnam. We received a Purple Heart master chief petty officer, Kirk he has been gone for 27 years and I miss him like it was yesterday I was only 32 when I lost my daddy no 833 one of those ages but what a way to gojust like this sucked. Thank you for your service, sir Fairwinds and following seas
When men were men!! We owe so many thanks to this generation. I'm proud that my Dad was one of them. They were heroic beyond description, but their humility his it well.
Definitely a member of the greatest generation. Not the Battle of Britain but Churchill's quote still applies, "'Never in the field of human conflict was so much been owed by so many to so few."
RIP Wayne 😢 🙏 🪦 vaya con Dios y en paz descansen, thank you for your service to this country. 🙏 😢He deserved a better life than being relegated to a minor ticket.
this is a repost. Wayne's roles did NOT dry up! He was a Kubrick film not long before he died and was in like 10 movies the year he died, thats why he probably died. Too much work.
If he was flying an F6F Hellcat he was NOT among the first WWII aces. The F4F Wildcat pilots had a crazy amount of aces long before the Hellcat was produced.
Jimmy Stewart, like Wayne, and so many others, suffered terribly, from what we now call, P. T. S. D. He was able to use his acting career, as a catharsis, to help him deal with it.
The generation of " Talk little , do much " . Thank you for our freedoms !
He was considered Too Big, Yet He Flew 57 Missions,
God Bless His Soul

True. He acted with Jane Wyman, who was known as the BJ queen of Hollywood who then married Ronald Reagan who escaped the war by doing movies.

Dr. Joel Wallach, author of Dead Doctors Don't Lie, says PTSD is a vitamins and minerals deficiency.

@ what’s your point? Raegan was an actor before his political career.

I love Wayne Morris. Had no idea he fought in WWII. What a wonderful young man.
He wss a personal friend of David McCampbell Capt USN MOH. He died visiting the Capt as he was the CO of the "Bonnie Dick"
If he was flying an F6F Hellcat he was NOT among the first WWII aces.
The F4F Wildcat pilots had a crazy amount of aces long before the Hellcat was produced.
Sad, and such a short life.

The good always die young. Take it from 74 yrs old guy who has personally witnessed this saying. Not true 100% but enough times to know.
God bless um
Wow compared to this guy I’ve achieved very little in this life. This guy was amazing.
