Really impressive you walked and drove around Battambang City to show the vast differences between the downtown areas and a few blocks away. Crystal clear as night and day. Thanks.

*The US government has named Cambodia as one of the worst countries for human trafficking. According to the United Nations, human trafficking known as a human rights offense often linked to "modern slavery" has 2 forms: forced labor and sex trafficking. The US government described the Cambodian government’s human trafficking law enforcement efforts as “official complicity,” even though an online trafficking victim training course was made available to government officials in 2023. The report says “authorities did not investigate or hold criminally accountable any officials involved in widespread, credible reports of complicity.” Shamefully, Cambodia has been ranked the most corrupt country in Southeast Asia.*

I live in California and have been back to Battambang a few times, staying at my cousin's house. They have a villa/mansion, 5 km away from the central market. I asked them where the wastewater went. They said the sewer pipe went to a field, and the wastewater was scattered there. They still need a wastewater treatment plant. The dirty water you show is likely the wastewater from people's homes.

    • @urbansurvivorguy

They have yet to have a municipal wastewater treatment plant for most of the city.,, the sewer is called Stung Sangker and shit goes there and back as food and clothes washing water.

Thats why investing in a property in Cambodia from a foreigner would not be a good choice. Unless you have the money to hand to the high rank, you pretty much buying an empty property. who really own the land. Battambang was part of Siam 1907 until when the French colonization they gave it back. There is not title to the land for anyone but to the Kings on either side.

It’s never a bad location since the Thais , French and Vietnamese saw potential in Battambang.. it’s the number one rice growing provinces in Cambodia . Stop blaming locations for its problems.. its problems stems from the Top not the location.

@@urbansurvivorguy and yet, why can’t I import it to the USA and sell it? Because of bad logistics and not profitable. It’s only possible to transport on roads to export through Bangkok or Mekong through Vietnam. By the time it reaches a container it’s twice as expensive as Vietnamese or Thai rice. So Khmer can only sell to Cambodia not to the international market.

@@chaya973 According to the Cambodia Rice Federation website, 71% of exports goes to China, EU, and England. 13% goes to Asean countries. I suspect some Cambodia rice going through Thai and VN traders are relabeled as "premium" Thai/VN rice. I snagged some new growth rice fresh off a farm in Kampot and it was so good.
