  • Here's an inexpensive 4,000 count true RMS digital multimeter with fully automatic mode and range selection. Is it any good? Let's find out, hopefully in one clean take! While this is a sponsored review, I review products only on the condition that I am allowed to be completely honest about them. In looking inside the meter, I did not find anything alarming with regard to its design and circuit board layout.
I am not sure if the mentioned blue and red models actually exist.

Not only was this done in one clean take, what you are watching is the first and only take. Since I know my life is a comedy and I've been bitten by its ringing before (in more than one sense!), I meant to disable the telephone while making this video. I forgot, but luck was on my side.

Thanks much for the review, I was looking for a new multimeter after my Victor TrueRMS VC921 broke. Just ordered one.
This is actually the second multimeter I ever bought after you reviewed it. You reviewed the VC921 back in 2016 and I mained that meter until the leads broke last year and have no complaints at all for my use cases. 😀

The Victor was a great meter for the money at the time -- and true RMS capability at such a low price was utterly unheard of. If you could afford a little more, the various Aneng/Zotek offerings were even better because you could replace the leads and they had more testing ranges.
These days, there are even more and better options for all budgets and skill levels. I think that's only a good thing.

    That's a very busy background.

It's my bed comforter blanket. It probably is a little over the top for use as a video background. I happen to like it, though.

I was looking for a half decent home multimeter and I think I'll get this one when I need a new one, probably sooner rather than later as the one I have has a chewed up cable

On the subject of backlighting, I used to have a Uni-T meter that had a backlight on this amazing invention; a Switch! Sadly that one died from liquid spillage (and I never got round to cleaning it out, has to be about 15 years back now) so long gone unfortunately, but why meters have to be equipped with timers on their backlights that time out when you're busy taking measurements I do not understand...

I have a Walmart one. I think it lies sometimes. It read that my car battery was good. It was not good.

To properly test any battery, you need to put an appropriate load on it. Your meter won't do that.

There are a lot of good choices out there for inexpensive and useful meters, though safety on a lot of them is questionable. To date, Astro AI has not reached out and asked me to review one of their meters.

astro is not ul approved, but has ce approval. i would never use it for pro work with frequent high voltage use, but for the diy'er like me it is a great option. @@uxwbill
