- The First episode of the roughhewn cinematic style video of our visit to Adak, Alaska.
While the reunion was in its planning stage Barry had a plan he shared with us. To have a rededication of the USMC Memorial Park and installing new plaques. Our group readily agreed.
I hope you enjoy
Thank you Gentlemen for your service as Marines. Thank you all for the service you performed in Adak and remembering Lt Lussier. Semper Fi Gentlemen !
@@stevelalor3886 thank you.
Thank you for your service gentlemen.
@@LensForgotten thanks.
I served in the U.S. Navy at Comsta, Navsegruact 1976-78. It was a blessed time with many amazing memories! A couple of Adak Marine stories. One night, Commander Blondin rode out to Marine guarded Zeto point without his I.D. The Marine guard threw him down in the mud at gunpoint until someone came to properly I.D. him lol. At my installation called Shotgun, there were always 2 Marine guards. If you had a different look, grew a beard(allowed) or shaved off your mustache and if it did not match your I.D., you were not getting in, even if you knew the combination. Last one is personal. A lance corporal Barrett USMC was a member of our church. I did not think anything of it by dropping off a Bible and some books for him at his barracks on Bering Hill, until i was greeted by hostile stares by the Marines as I did stand out since us swabbies were allowed beards on Adak, but not the Marines. I was greeted by not so friendly stares. So I responded with" hey guys, we're all on the same side, same military, aren't we? ...not one single reply. One more...some swabbies moved a howitzer in front of the Marine barracks, rolling it out of sight as a prank. All the Marines were ordered out of bed to go find it. After that incident it was welded in place.
Thank you for your service, my fellow Veterans! I lament the fact that H.W. Bush closed down Adak, and with all of its strategic importance and tremendous infrastructure and with the threats from China, Russia, and North Korea it should be reopened ASAP!
Im hoping to come up July 2025. I have plans to visit The Marine Memorial. Thank you, and God bless you gentlemen!
Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it.
Awesome dedication Semper Fi Marines. RIP Sir.
@@VitoMcqueen thank you.
Alfred Lussier is my family and it warms my heart to see him honored and remembered in this way. Especially so, this Christmas Day, reconnecting with other family and just now hearing about this. His mother was my grandfather's sister. Thank you all for your service and continued dedication, our whole family appreciates you all! God bless, and Merry Christmas!
@tgolden27 it was an honor and privilege to do it. When Barry found out and briefed us about it, we knew we had to. We felt a connection, a kinship of our Marine brothers having served on Adak. Lt. Lussier is a hero of Marines because he didn't have to go on the SAR mission; and yet he still volunteered to go. Please tell your family thank you and Merry Christmas.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.
@@terryroth2855 you bet. Thank you.
This is awesome! Thanks for doing this. I served 1981-2007...Semper Fi, brothers
Appreciate it, thank you.
I was stationed there 89 to 90 with Marine Security Forces Adak, AK! This is pretty cool!
Thank you.
I never saw any trees on Adak when I was there.
There was and is a small group of trees near the pet cemetery. Named Adak National Forest. Was there when we were there '79-'80. Now, there's a few trees scattered out and about.
The way things are happening in the world we should reactivate that abandoned bases. But first we'll have to raise enlistment in the military 🪖.
There has been talk about ol' Adak. But just that.
@ChuckAbles they've just reopened the abandoned coast guard station along the islands.
