    -Zero major battles in Illinois
-Thousands of rebels died in Illinois
    That's a good ratio👍

I’m an Illinois native, my family has lived here since before this land was made a state, my Great Grandfather was given a plaque by the state before his passing to prove it. I’m proud of my state to never once have been touched by Rebel hands, but to have given thousands of her boys to put down the rebellion and free the colored people of the south from the chains of tyranny.

I have a relative who served in the Eighth Illinois Cavalry. He served from July 1863 to the war's end and was promoted from 1st Lieutenant to Captain. Interestingly, he had four horses shot out from under him and survived a severe case of dysentery at the Wilderness.

I had hoped to hear about Most Southern Illinois. I understand Union troops were stationed down there thru the war as multiple towns had voted to Leave the Union.

The 8th Ill. did not fire the first shot at the battle of Gettysburg. It was in fact Cpl Hodges of the 9th NY Co.F at 0545. Prior to the Lt. of the 8th Ill. firing at approximately 0730.
