This is just an update on some of the footage from the flood. Most of the water is back in the river now! I just wanted to document the events. Thank you!
Molly thanks for sharing this ! Keep them coming this will definitely be a storm to remember for sure! Things could be worse if we were to get a big snowstorm with so many roads that are damaged it really would be hard to plow ! Keep safe and keep your videos coming !
Thanks for the update enjoying your videos l never new that the floods bring in a lot of nutrients which help the land l just thought it was a pain with the amount of water, l have been watching you videos again from the taties harvest always enjoy your videos thanks ❤
Hi Molly can’t believe how much the water has receded in such a short time… Glad you’ll get the benefit from the silt left behind… Always look at the positive side.. Stay strong 💪…
Thank you. I was much glad to see this followup. Hopefully, you will make more. I feel really lucky. We only got about 2” of rain Monday but a hellacious windstorm. Internet and cable were out Monday afternoon to middle of Tuesday morning. We didn’t lose power here in the village of Waldoboro.
Thanks for watching! We got our power back and most of the water is back in the river. There will be some places we need to address in the spring where there are little wash outs. But all in all not to bad. Happy holidays!
I grew up on the Mississippi River, flooding sucks. we tend to associate water with cleanliness, but a flood is just the most dirty and foul thing imaginable. completely unrelated I really enjoy your videos. You’re really good at capturing things with the camera.
@@BellsFarming I’m a masshole of 40 yrs now, but still have my short arms and strong back😉 50 barrels a day of hand picked whites instills a certain amount of appreciation into a young person. Fortunately, the work ethic rubbed off onto my kids, who all became productive members of society. Proud of you both, and grateful for sharing the difficult, yet rewarding experience of farming✌️✌️
I see that the flood water actually benefits your fields. Our farms had both flat & hilly. During hurricane Sandy there was so much rain & the water followed the potato rows & dumped right into our barn. Dad didn't believe in contour farming till then.
Merry Christmas Molly, Shane and all the Bell family. Hope your potato barns are all ok ? Free silt is always good, plus flooding provides nematode control for future potato crops. Best regards, David
@@BellsFarming there was a farm near Cambridge, England that used to purposefully flood farmland to control nematodes, and it worked really well. Hope you are getting good prices for your potatoes, they are worth really good money here in UK.
Tks for sharing this one too.. have enjoyed your videos. Not sure how to say your rivers name. The river that my family was by in Michigan was the grand river.. easyer to say. Lol
Glad you guys and your equipment are safe. I know how it is to be without electricity. We went 3 weeks without electricity due to hurricanes. It’s no fun. Stay safe and be careful driving on those flooded roads.
I'm very sorry for all of you guys you work so hard to prosper and be successful but y'all will bounce back in Jesus name amen 🙏 That said you may never read this but if you do the name of that river has to be named after some relative of mine my people are hard to find we're Scottish bye family tree as my name indicates anyway just want all of you to know true Americans appreciate every hard working hour you guys go through many blessings to all of you.
It seems, from what I've seen, your soil doesn't compact all the hard. Is it sandy? You be able to drag a rack through it to break it up in the spring? How long has the property been in your families?
We do sub soiling every year, there are sandy places and heavy ground too. We will have lots of compaction because of the water this year. The farm was established in 1937. Thanks for watching Lee!
I live in Washington state, and we had some flooding but not quite as bad as what you got! I'm sort this happened to you, I'm sure you being a farmer and all makes this flooding a million times worse! Hopefully it will dry up soon!
Hey there thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Most of the water is back in the river already! It a good time of year to have a flood! No crops in the ground. Happy holidays🎄
I’ve watched your show for a while and just learned you are Maine iacs. Been thru Lewiston/auburn a lot in my big truck out of northern NH. For the best lobster bisque, go to dysarts truck stop up there on 95
@@BellsFarmingI’m retired now. Took me a full year to wind down from the rat race of trucking. Drove for a saw mill out of groveton nh, closed now. And Karl Johnson out of lyndonville by, sold out. And a few big fleets. Glad to see potato farms still surviving in our country. I was thinking a lot of taters come out of Canada now
Yeah, we understand flooding and Australia has just had a cyclone/typhoon. There is no need to die making a video about it. Sorry to hear your family is affected, the water will go down and life can continue. I understand these things are pretty stressful but keep safe. Only drive through flood water if your life is threatened because it is hard to see whether the water has washed giant holes in the road. Also carry something to break windows if you get trapped because the electric system in modern vehicles cuts out and there is no power to lower windows, move the car or get out. We have had people drown in cars waiting for help because they panic and did not know how to get out. Thanks for your vlog
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. We are lucky and in my area there was mostly just flooding in the roads. Everything is pretty much back to normal already! We have some water in the fields that will hang around, but 90% is back in the river. Thank care!

Molly, Two things: I have to guess that you've experience working as a teacher, and when are we going to hear from Shane. No knock on anyone, but Shane has to be pretty expert on so much.
Hey there, Shane is definitely the expert! He is getting a little better around the camera. I guess the last couple videos he hasn’t been to involved to much. I’ll get on him to on the ball. And thanks for the compliment. I do not have any teaching experience, but I am very passionate about what we do on the farm. Thank you again for watching! Happy holidays 🎄

Ok so according to Google Dysarts is still open and was named best food in Maine in 2014 and named America best truck stop food in June of 2023
Glad that your power has been restored. What a mess.
Very sorry to see all the damage . Makes a lot of work on top of already hard daily work on a farm. Hello Ray.
Hi John from Ray! Happy holidays 🎄
You are having power outages while the State of Maine is debating on outlawing gasoline powered vehicles?
I just heard something about that! Haha that will never happen here. This is not a state where electrics cars will work.
@@BellsFarming I know they aren’t selling very good here either. Is your power still off?
It would be interesting to calculate how many tons per acre of silt is added per acre..
Yes that would be very interesting to find out. I’ll ask Shane about that calculation!
Do the floods change your soil, good or bad?
Good for the most part. A little extra work in the spring to deal with the compaction.
