  • We're back to talk more Avengers, this time looking at writer Walt Simonson's time working with John Buscema and others to create issues #291-300, and Annual #17 for Volume 1 (as well as some of the books before and after by Marvel writer Ralph Macchio). We'll talk about his changes to the team, look at some of the tremendous strengths as the stories focus in on the likes of Doctor Druid, the Council of Kangs, Captain America becoming The Captain, and the Inferno tie-in.
Then we'll take an in-depth look into the drama going on behind the scenes of Avengers comics from this era that ultimately led to Walt Simonson suddenly leaving the series in the shortest run seen yet.

I feel like he also talked about chaotic behind the scene stuff with Fantastic Four too….he both drew and wrote the thing so visually it looks freaking awesome, so unique and stands out from other run drawn by marvel house style type artists but he must’ve said that he just had to move on after a while because Marvel as a company was getting less fun to work at.

Jocosta is named after Oedipus' mother and accidental lover. He made her based on Wasp's brain patterns and saw her as his mother. Oedipus complex indeed.

I owned issue 300 and knew almost nothing about Inferno. Though I thought The Captain in black had a colouring I wanted to like but did not. The involvement of Kang my sole interest. The Avengers story I loved was Proctor and the gatherer's. Always been a sucker for alternative realities/history stories.

Didn't Starfox joint the Avengers earlier. Which will make Starfox the first Eternal rather than Gilgamesh. Now I know Starfox is an Eternal from Titan while Gilgamesh is an Eternal from Earth who are generally more powerful as per the old Marvel handbooks.

@@ComicIsland There is an interesting history about the Eternals. The original ones were non super powered until Kronus had an accident and exposed all the Earth Eternals to cosmic energy and they developed super powers.
However by then the Eternals were already in two factions, ones which had migrated to Titan before the accident and the ones remaining on Earth. This made Earth Eternals somewhat genetically different from Titan Eternals ie they had super powers. They were however still genetically compatible since they could still have children.
The Earth Eternals split again with Zuras remaining the leaders on earth, while Alars aka Mentor aka father of Starfox and Thanos took his followers elsewhere and ended up with the Eternals on Titan (who at that time had been devastated by civil war).
So most "modern day" Titan Eternals are descended from the non powered original Titan Eternals and the migrants from Earth (superpowered). This is why Eternals on Titan now have super powers as well, although generally less powerful than Earth Eternals. The exception is of course Thanos.
