Hey John, love the video, been lookin forward to this! A correction for 11:00 Fearsome Strength doesn’t trigger Tomoe’s ability, I asked this exact example on discord and Justin replied confirming for it not triggering. Because the swapping of spaces happens simultaneously.
This set is amazing. I love how Restoration games getting bigger and bigger. Everything about this set is pure perfection. From art to mechanic, to vaulue of cards. Incredibly job
Thanks for the great detail in your overview! A must get for me. But waiting patiently till Valentines Day, as Restorations' shipping costs are exorbitant (and multiply even when you add a second unit to the same cart)
I noticed something unique about the map that’ll make it awsome for ranged fighters. The red and yellow zones have spaces on the opposite sides of the map.
If you wanna check other games in this Samurai theme, find Senjutsu: Battle for Japan. Its a new Unmatched like skirmish card game, with strong focus on positionig. It also have optional deckbuilding rules. You should love it :)
Hi Zero, Great review as always. I have a question about fearsome strength. This is an issue of "games that don't have magic the gathering's rules precision." Let's say we're adjacent. I'm in zone A, you're in B. I Play fearsome strength and we swap. You say my ability will damage you for leaving my zone, but we were never in the same zone. Are you saying that at the end of resolution, I'm in zone B, which is the zone you just left and that's why you're damaged? When is zone status checked and redetermined? Continuously? If so, you never left my zone because at the moment we recalculate that I'm in B, you're now in A. You were never in "my zone" before you left. So I guess we need clarity on the timing of these effects. Follow up question: what about if we're in dual or tri space zones? If you leave your space, and that causes you to leave 3 zones I'm in, will the trigger happen 3 times? Thanks in advance
As noted in another comment the ruling is no damage for fearsome strength because the swap happens simultaneously. So you are correct. But if Tomoe is in multiple zones, the opponent would have to leave ALL of those zones in order for the damage ability to trigger.
@@zeroskatr12 got it thanks. That's intuitive. Sorry, didn't scroll through all comments. And in your example, if they leave all of tomoe's zones, the ability still only triggers once right?
I personally like only getting one map per set. Otherwise I feel it gets to be too much, especially for competitive play. Too many options that really aren't needed. This map is very normal, but it still has a cool layout so I think I like it.
Probably for the first time Im ok with 7 value cards in deck because of how punishing it may be to use it and because other card values are so low in Tomoe deck. And Oda feels like a "healthier" version of Electra - reliant on sidekicks, but not with such dumb crazy OP mechanics.(or maybe he will turn out to be even more crazy, who knows) Btw I have kida personal question - as one of top competitive players, so you still enjoy playnig "low tier" fighters or if he is not meta relevant you are not interested in playing it?
Invisible Man is still one of my favorites. I enjoy playing low tiers in matchups where I feel I have a chance. If it's hopeless then it's definitely not fun anymore. With that said anything in mid tier is usually competitive enough to have a chance into most characters, so that is the sweet spot to me.
Also I won't invest too much time into a low tier because I won't end up playing them in tournament, which is my main source of playtime now days. But I still have a blast playing all new fighters within their set on release!
@@zeroskatr12For me I feel like one great thing about Tales to Amaze is that it gives a great outlet to be able to break out the weaker heroes more often. If I’m trying to beat a friend I might not break out Angel or Spike, but if we’re going to play a fun cooperative game together it gives those characters an outlet.
Forgive me if I’m mistaken, I love the game but I’m not expert enough on small rules intricacies. If you play Skirmish on defense with Tomoe, and the opponents hero is at the edge of her zone, are you able to use the two movement to move them out of her zone and then back in? If you can, would that trigger her ability since they did move out and then still keep them in her zone for a potential double attack?
@@schwantzfrancalanza1036 What about how she works with multicolored spaces? Say she’s in a yellow/blue/red space, does she trigger when someone moves out of yellow into blue, or does she only trigger when they completely leave all of her zones?
Just keep in mind that her ability doesn't care on were the opponent hero ends his move, as soon as the hero leaves her zone he instantly takes 1 damage, and he can take multiple damage in one card effect The card " A warrios way " is able to deal 2 damage if the positioning is right
Ah, so a character that is awesome in Adventure Mode and a character that's basically incompatible. Hope that's just a quirk of release order being shuffled by delays, and not something they'll intentionally do going forward.
@@zeroskatr12i think RG said something similar, they don’t want to limit their design space just because of the new UMA mode. If they have an awesome design idea they will go through with it even if it would suck in UMA/not work
She won’t be as good in Adventures but you can probably often still position to take advantage of her ability. It says in the rules that if there’s multiple routes tied for the shortest, the player chooses the route, so you can probably set up routes that involve them dipping in and out of your zone before getting adjacent. I’m not positive, I’d have to look at the maps. For sure she won’t be one of the best in Adventures but I don’t think she’s unplayable.
Well I meant if they were adjacent and in two different zones. But I guess the ruling is that it still would not trigger in that case, because the swap is simultaneous.
@@parkourse2457 The flanking ability works very poorly in anmached, especially in defense. The loss of even 1 guard is a much more tangible loss than the death of hunter, Watson or 1 of the raptors. Oda himself is very weak for ranged attacks and those who shorten the distance. Corridor maps are a pain, there are few good gains for maneuver, and at the same time 2 legs.
