SOCKS!!!!! I FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT SOCKS!!! Haha I ALWAYS wear wool socks! I have some thick wool socks from Costco I like in the winter, and thin merino wool socks in the summer. Check the package and make sure there is at least 70% wool in the wool socks you get :) Thanks for watching!!
Those Costco socks are very very similar to the brand name Smartwool socks of the same weight. Love them
I’ve found that Fox River heavyweight thermal socks are awesome, they offer fit sizes, about 15$ a pair but they last years, and they clean well when washing them on hikes with just a little bit of dawn dish soap
Was just going to say you forgot SOCKS! Thanks for the tips. I swear by my SmartWool crewneck base layer! The best.
Let me guess if it goes below -5 you wear socks ?🤔 lol great tips, thanks!
I have a whole sock system to make up for my crappy boots!!🤣 I love the Costco wool socks too
A dang mountain woman head to toe omg 😱 🥰 (I never skip your ads.)
Hahah I don't skip yours either, UA-cam sistaa!! ❤️❤️
Ladies! I recently discovered that was a thing! I now play thru ads (and remember to hit that Like button). Showin' the love to my UA-cam Peeps!!!❤❤❤
Very helpful and concise advice! Nice way to keep the snow machine in the clip. Just right.
Must watch for many viewers!
Just got to your channel! I love stuff like this, because I don't live in the snow (did 20 years ago, so it's been awhile), and it's always good to see gear that can help when I go into the Sierra or other cold places.
I love the deep breaths I can take outdoors. Some people dont like wool I dont know why they say layer
Love seeing all your videos! Doesn't matter what the topic or adventure just as long as we get to see your beautiful eyes, hair and smiles! Nothing beats a pretty woman in the great outdoors!
very good video good advice for the cold thank you Alexis see you soon.
Thanks for sharing. ✌️👊
I think one thing a lot of people in Ontario don't really think about or realize is that because of how humid this province is that down-based insulation loses performance very quickly. Down is incredible for extreme dry arctic climates but in humid environments wool is king because it retains its ability to keep you warm even as a dampness in the air permeates it.
Side note, if you want to up your sock game Alpaca Wool was a game changer for me. Just as warm as normal wool but way softer and comfier with none of the itchiness. I like to support Alpaca Time as they are a great local company here in Ontario.
THE LEATHER GAUNTLETS ARE THE BEST QUALITY AND PRICE !!! I GOT A SIZE UP TO WEAR WITH WOOL GLOVES INSIDE AS WELL. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ADVISE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great show
wool yes, but always red! Just like the snow mobile RED, which you rode in on. yes indeed.
Winter in Canada used to be even longer.
Most winter days in Quebec are bright and sunny. White snow and clear blue skies.
As a fellow Canadian camper, skier, hiker, I swear by sheepskin mitts with the woollen inside. Wind proof and warm. I also have sheepskin liners in the bottom of my boots to keep my toes toasty. And wool socks always. Great tips, those Bison mitts look interesting 🤔 👍
Thanks Alexis!
Hi! I'm from Russia, I often watch your channel, I really like how you shoot videos, it's cool, I even saw something from your own experience))) Keep up the good work!!
Totally agree wool and real goose down are the two best, warmest materials to wear! The higher the percentage of wool the better. Love your videos.
If there is a camping event at the Winter Olympics, You are a Gold medalist ^^
Great watching your video, seeing you riding snowmobile trails on a nice sunny day! Thanks for all the cold weather tips on keeping warm! Love the channel’s
Wow, anyone that can make winter gear look hot, is awesome!👍
An interesting thing I noticed about Baffin boots is that, at least for men, the listed weights indicate that the industrial boots tend to be a little lighter which is the opposite of what I'd think. I've had Baffin Barrows for years as I used to do a lot of winter forestry work, and they have the same insulation in them as any of the "regular" boots--I've never felt cold in them even at -20 deg F, and I have the added features of a safety toe and plate which have been tested by very large heavy logs and passed with flying colors. They're still heavy nonetheless, though.
Regarding the rest. I am also a big fan of wool and try to avoid synthetics when I can. Good wool and down can be pricey, but they have great value in the long run and perform so well. I won't go into the specific pieces, but my winter gear is a mix of Merino wool, rough wool, yak wool, alpaca wool, and down.
For wool glove liners, check out Icebreaker. They're great and not even that pricey.
Very helpful video, never miss them
Would be interested in seeing a video about firewood. You've inspired me to get out there and camp by myself, but I'm left wondering what wood is best and how to find wood that's not rotten or green. Thank for being authentically you, love the videos!
Great suggestion!! I will keep this in mind when making future videos!
Yet a nother great video thank you. Those are the perfect layers along with on outer wind proof shell for the really cold days. 🥶🥶
Great video. Your gear makes good sense. I second the idea of layering.
Hello from Minnesota USA!!
Hi again. As usual, loved your video. Keep up the good work. Aussie Pete
Something agrees with you... You've never looked better. Great video.
Great information & video, the 1 thing I add as a layering is a vest over my sweater or pullover then my jacket, raised to believe if you keep your body core warm the rest will follow, just a thought 🤙
Thanks for sharing!!
I work at a thrift store and just bought a Smartwool pullover for $6! Super good deal and is warm for being outside. Always keeping an eye out for the wool and down fabrics to keep me cozy in winter. Thank you for sharing this, I love knowing what other people wear that is sustainable.
Great find!!! I've found a few merino things in thrift stores over the years too! Thanks for watching!
I've been so excited for this video! Thanks for all the helpful tips and ideas!
I'm so glad!
Great video.
I have not even seen a snowmobile since I was about 6, LOOOOOL! xD
Good watch and I too love Fjallraven, well explained, clear and great demonstration. Certainly giving that snowmobile a belting.
Would like or ask politely for you to show how you sharpen your you knives in the field like in a past video I’m showing the importance of constant batoning can dull their knives. Your the only person that has shown that and oiling your leather. Still pretty and good bush crafter. You do an excellent job!!!!!!!!
SEMPER FI
Thank you for sharing this good information!❤️👍🙏😊‼️💯✌️
Good advice. For cold snowy days I like ragwool gloves under shooter's mittens. The shooter's mittens have a foldaway flap that lets you expose your fingers and thumb.
You and Lilly! My two favorite Ladies on YT. Love tough Women who get out there alone, and DO IT!😳
You looked absolutely stunning in that hat.
Thanks for the video!
Snowmobile overnights would be awesome to see! Love the videos, now I want a snowmobile.
Your videos Never seem to Disappoint.. Great Video
I bought my first pair of Baffin boots earlier this year. They are the Classic Alaska version.
Best pair of boots I ever owned hands down!
I don't do any camping, or haven't in many years but I do have to snow blow my driveway ;). Definitely layers and a good hood and mask for me.
Hello from Finland 😀 I found your channel by accident and became a fan right away! It has been awesome to follow your trips with and without Grizz, especially as woman!!! I just wanted to say hi and thanks to you, me and my best friend are planing our first bushcraft trip next summer 😀. I am hooked and wanted to start sleeping in our back yard until my husband pointed out that our back yard is full of water... So I have to wait little longer 😀. So thank you and keep filming your trips, here is at least one student who wants to learn about building shelters etc. Stay safe ❤️
Your efforts are appreciated deeply !
Thank's Alexis !
Thank yo use much!! I deeply appreciate your support and comments, makes everything I do worth the effort!!
I am with you !
@@careenaalexis Alexis , I tried replying but the daft thing runs out of room at the bottom , sorry ?
Nice one Alexi. Yep wool all the way. What I really liked were those gauntlet bison mits. They look super comfortable, especially with the finger lining inside. They don’t look cheap, but if looked after they’ll last a lifetime.
thank you
Great ideas on staying warm. Like the snow machine. Great shape for its age.
Thanks Alex! Yeah it's in immaculate shape, previous owners took amazing care of it.
Great video nice sled, wool is great Evan in the summer. I have wool U.S. military glove liners that are fantastic
Oh my gosh! I love you! Friggin awesome channel, subbed ya. Sweet sled! Keep them coming!!!!!👍❤️
Thanks for all this info, much appreciated. Best.
Great little video. Always have to layer lol. Keep up the awesome videos
Great video as usual! Absolutely love your hat!
Haha thanks so much Mikaela!!
Your videos are so kickass and amazing the outdoors are so beautiful and peaceful
Thank you very much!
@@careenaalexis ❤️
Yes! I wear a goose down coat (Canada Goose..pricey but good) and a fur cap. Fox or coyote fur. Water repellent. Pants just Striker snow pants. A shemagh is great for face covering if you have to. Plus they look cool. Socks I wear whatever I got on Amazon lol some wool whatever brand. Love you lady!! Stay warm! Keep making vids
Great video.
Great video🤘
SMITHFALLS REPERSENTING lol
Enjoyed the ride 😎 👌
Agreed. I do the same. Mechanics gloves with a cheap set of kits that is lined with Sherpa material for cold weather. Under armor cold gear balaclava for the face. Mad bomber hat with the wool, moisture wicking long sleeve shirt, with wool button up shirt over that, and a outside layer that depends on the conditions as needed. Insulated pants for now, but looking for wool trousers for the future. I have the same boots. They are awesome. Paired with wool socks. My feet have never felt anything slightly cold in the winter. Great gear for MN as well.
Awesome!! Greta layering system you have!! Thanks for watching! :)
Thanks for the tips and the snowmobile ride! I liked the video.
Thanks so much for watching!
I'm going to the store to go shopping 😊😊😉😉
You are totally lovin that snowmobile huh? I love that you love it. Keep posting positive vibe videos please.
Great Video learned something Thank you
Great video, Careena! Dear ol' dad said wool keeps you warm even when wet, and he was right! Also, I agree that wool base layers don't get that "funky" smell compared to synthetics!
I'm a huge fan of Ice breaker, a clothing brand using merino wool. I recently purchased gloves - inliner from them that can es especially for layering. I haven't tested it in lower than 0 degree, but so far I love them!
Alexis!! You may have replaced those little gray gloves by now, but there are US military surplus gloves (green) that are cheap and they’re wool! Check them out!
Great video Careena! The sled is awesome ❤️i started using synthetic base layers that are sweat wicking instead of wool just because wool is so heavy !
The merino wool is much much lighter and not so itchy lol, I also have some synthetic base layers too, mix it up sometimes. Thanks for watching as always Chuck!
Great video...thanks for the tips...freedom for all people..
Thanks, Careena! Great video!
Thanks so much Jon!!
I’m wearing Keb’s right now while watching this, just got back from camping. Good tips,,
This is such a useful video... thank you!
Yep, Merino wool all the way - whether it’s cold or hot (as here in Australia).
Very informative video - love your work! As for other topics: you mentioned bugs - a dedicated video on how you deal with insects when they’re really bad, how to treat bites etc. would be interesting (though potentially a nuisance to make I’m sure …).
Great tips Careena!
Thanks Josie!
Really making me want to buy a snowmobile! Love those bison mitts. Thanks for sharing your gear tips for the winter season!
Hey thanks guys!
Your content is bomb. Can’t wait to see what you make next.
Thank you so much!!
Amen!! "No Bugs!!" Gotta love bombing around on your snowmobile. I used to ride my Dad's whenever I went home on leave in the winter. Used to be a lot of fun..... until I got it stuck once in deep powder, wasn't to thrilled about that!! Sweat my butt off getting it un-stuck and then froze it off on the ride home. Wasn't really well taught about "layering" at that time in my life. Watch out for barb-wire fences - those things will mess you up bad!! I laughed pretty hard at your boot modeling, not the easiest to model with the camera on a tripod. Loved the video, thanks for sharing!!! Looking forward to the next one!!
Hahah that's awesome. Yeah I spent many a time digging out my stuck sled too growing up!! Hahah I actually even forgot my tripod this outing so I had my camera precariously placed on my sled 😂😂
Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for watching!
I've found flea markets be an awesome source for wool clothes, so many people dump hand made stuff basically unused. I once found a brand spanking new 100% sheep wool shirt for 5€! I've worn it on daytrips with just a baselayer and shell anorak, I love it.
Yes, I find wooden mittens ( from Newfoundland), full mittens, three fingers and full " 5 " fingers are the best to wear. ( for SNOW blowing too).
And ski mittens are better than 5 finger ski gloves. You can add hand warmers in them very easily.
But, you can't take layers off if you don't take them with you. ❄❄❄👍👍
Good Job girl.
Awesome
US Army wool gloves are pretty decent. I find a lot of wool gloves (at least Merino ones) are made thinner that what your ones look like.
Awesome class very informative
Glad you think so!
I love first lite or kuiu wool for my base layers. Def wear wool socks year round!! First lite has some wool gloves to. I own several pairs in case I ever lose a pair.
Great video. I appreciate you putting time to put the links in. Thanks.
No problem! Thanks for watching!
…love anything gear/tools/resources/etc…also yay to my trapper hat-“hug-on-my-head” any season 😂…wool 100%
Thank you SO much. I’m just starting bushcraft and I have desired so much to have a good explanation of how to dress in the cold.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video i like wool to i enjoy your videos and good Luck.
Awesome episode Ma 👊🏼😎🤙🏼!! Cheers from California
Thank you! Cheers!
No bugs! Woohoo! Nice sled!
Great video. You are amazing!
Thank you so much!
Great video..! I'd like to see more cooking on the fire with your titanium plate.. I think I might see if that works for me too.
Thanks!
Hello 👋 Alexis, greetings from Northern California. Thanks for sharing this informative video. You always do a great job. All the best to you. Stay safe out there. 🤗
Thank you so much!
Awesome video
Thanks!
I use a silk base layer and wool mid layer we don't get a lot of snow but cold rain so outer layer is gortex, socks are always Poly base and some of the bass pro lifetime wool socks I have had two pairs for almost twenty years they are truly lifetime socks and very warm. Stay warm my friend looking forward to the next camping video with your favorite boyfriend Grizz 🐕. Thanks for sharing information about properly laying in cold climates.
Great layering system, thanks for sharing!! And thanks so much for watching :)
You know I'm Down!
If you ever come to Australia, I’ll give you tips on surviving the heat 👍
Haha go surfing all day long :P Thanks for watching!
Excellent I enjoy your videos Keep it going
Thanks so much!
@@careenaalexis My pleasure I do miss the snow go but no use for one in Florida lol
wool is very good
I ordered a pair of those Bison mitts because of you. Awesome mittens. Only thing wrong is, I ordered the wrong size...! So now my wife has a very nice pair of Bison mitts! LOL I will be ordering myself another pair in the future.
