And just how rich the words are with meaning, the way the metaphor is kept running throughout the scene, the natural flow while still using archaic language, dialog in games hasn't been on this level in a long time.
be careful what you wish for they dont have writers on the level of matsuno at square anymore. its likely to end up full of ghosts mini games and a cameo from the crazy frog.
The combat in particular needs a complete re-haul. It aged horribly, and even back when it came out, it felt tedious as hell. The story though was amazing.

The combat also needs a bit of balancing as break arts aren't very effective and magic is only occasionally effective. If this were remade today, all that would be needed to make me happy is quick set type buttons to switch to specific weapons on the fly and a bit of balancing as mentioned
Still amazes me how good this game is in terms of art and direction. From the opening sequence with the credits to the very ending, every cutscene is so well directed and have such good dialogues, it's truly a masterpiece.
I know that Matsuno wanted to have multiple party members, but just couldn't fit it in. A remake of this game could be amazing. Just streamlining the combat so you don't have to pause the game and sift through menus just to switch to an optimal weapon would be a vast improvement.
This is indeed one of many Squaresoft's greatest RPGs. I remember playing it many times and there's just so much to explore after you're done with the first playthrough. The Iron Maiden, finding the best workshop, the Damascus crab. Such a great game indeed.

I've gotten bored playing the new games lately and went back to ps1 and played vagrant story again after so long and to this day it's still a great game with an amazing story it be interesting to see a ps5 version of this game.

Anyway, this was one of the greatest experiences I ever had playing video games. Still have the title and can still play it on my OG PS3. The presentation and execution of the way this story was told was on a level not done before or since imo. MGS is the only game that is on par in regards to storytelling etc.

I think those are my two favourite games from the entire franchise as well: Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy VIII, although Final Fantasy 7 Remake (Part 1) is also pretty darn good.
I know the main creator didn't want to associate this with the Ivalice saga, but if it is, then it's like the epilogue of Tolkien's Middle Earth. There was more magic and more species all over Ivalice (Middle Earth), then it all started to just fade away, barely any magic left and it in time became Valendia (Europe). People started using more bland names like Ashley and Sydney (instead of Balthier or Penelo etc).

I actually beat this game numerous plays to get the Holy Win sword which was extremely tough. I always thought Ashley's hair antenna gave me cool "Sprite" or "Faerie" vibes. I truly loved this game when I understood the smithing weapon combinations.

The first chapter (after starting a new file) is like a prologue, with the events at Duke Bardorba's manor leading into the rest at Leá Monde. Super cinematic w/credits and such. If you let the title screen sit for a bit though, you get to see Ashley's briefing at the VKP Headquarters then meeting Merlose just outside the manor. It gives some good political background/context to everything else, but maybe they left it as a separate extra prologue since it'd get in the way of how nicely the first chapter flows. I don't know if Matsuno ever explained fully, but it's basically a subtitle/alternate title, possibly as a chapter in a much larger story. There's also an in game ability called that. Def bears meaning to some of the plot. Kinda like "Final Fantasy Tactics: The Zodiac Brave Story"

Yasumi Matsuno's script and Alexander O. Smith (English Translator) are GoAT, this is why i enjoyed FF XII and Tactics Ogre dialogue so much

Good thing PSX games are playable almost as easily as SNES games. The PS2, PS3, PSP and Vita can all run them natively.
