@mark-ish Estimates may come from local resources, but they'd be *very* local estimates. A home 2 miles up a mountain with washed-out roads will be very different from the town in the valley with some kind of limited road access.
Is it too early to say that we should be doing something about Climate Change, or should we just stick to thoughts and prayers?
Yeah, we don’t want to hurt people who don’t believe in climate change with confronting them with the reality of this situation. I guess it’s the same guidelines as with mass shooting events.

From some comments on earlier Helene flood videos, I take it we're no longer denying climate change; we're now blaming it on the deep state. These unheard of weather patterns are all government controlled. 🤪 Personally I blame it on Trump and his lack of control over the sharpie.
I have lost all hope. Each shooting 🔫 😕 I sarcastically send "thoughts and prayers"
Vance said that school shootings are "just a part of life". What is wrong with these people
What a dumb question to ask so soon after the damage.
Flooding hasn't even receded and media want specifics.
Buttigieg is so intelligent, caring and motivated. Thank you sir! 👍👍👍💖
How will these Republican states improve their situations by voting for Trump, a man who wants to defund NOAA and the National Weather Service (no more advanced storm/tornado/flood/hurricane warnings), who doesn’t believe in assisting people who are under insured or can’t afford insurance at all, whose plan for crisis response is “don’t have a crisis”, and whose approach to the poorest people is “Ew, don’t let them touch me!”?
He withheld money from the blue states the last time he was in. And his pubs left for yet another break without a plan in place for funding this time. All they did was get the govt shutdown date moved to 12.20. There was no money in that for disasters.

I trust that Pete and the USA is doing the best they can. My serious question is why was this so damaging? Was it the vast amount of rain that came so quickly? Was it creeks and river over running their banks? Would better drainage systems have helped this to be not quite as bad? What accumulation of forced cause this to be so bad? Can we prevent it in the future. NOTE: Seems we must all be prepared to some degree in our own homes.
They are expecting a lot not only can you not get out but the rescuers can’t get in.
Pete is so amazing
Collected, focused. Capable of bearing this much responsibility and having enough leftover to focus on political foolishness and ignorant strikers who should man up considering all involced with efforts to attend to so mant affected people's needs in this horrific emergency.
We're so lucky to have such a brilliant, capable man handling all this. What a tragic mess these people are waking up to now, every day, with so many still missing. Every family has been affected. It makes me feel so sad.
Mayor Pete will be President Pete someday. There is nobody, and I mean NOBODY better at explaining the situation honestly, rationally and empathetically better that Buttigieg.
Swing state Georgia has a chemical plant issue. North Carolina was forgotten about even with the Biltmore Estates. My heart hurts.
Why is your discussion so aggressive about what is a natural disaster event? The interviewers sound like the Secretary should have a magic button to help make everything OK in 2 days. Be reasonable.
I live in Asheville, I am in shock
As if in an instance of Karma, this all happened just as Trump was once again denying climate change a rally.
How will Helene effect mail-in ballots (receipt & return logistics)?
Well answered!
How much will it cost and how long will it take? Seriously? These are considered serious questions for the Secretary? I'll beg he's glad that he was able to let all those desperate people know the answers.
Look I’m in NC. Soldiers, National Guard, Red Cross firemen from neighboring towns are all working around the clock to air drop in food and water. We don’t know in all these small mountain town whose roads are destroyed who needs what and for how long What are you wanting people to do that they aren’t doing? What are you doing? Marxist using that fake news to destroy the country from within again 😂
FEMA is not perfect but they’re a godsend in situations like this and without NOAA to predict these things the damage would be so much worse because no one would have known to prepare for this at all. Trump would throw rolls of paper towels at them.
Reminder everyone should keep disaster supplies on hand in case of unexpected events like these.
Yes - at LEAST 3 days of food and water, gas, spare tire, first aid........
Personally I am prepared for a minimum of 30 days. All of it stored in a cargo trailer so if I need to evacuate all I need is to grab my paperwork bin and my dogs and leave. I would include chain saw, water filters shelter material, iodine. I also carry 5 portable solar generators and panels for power including a 12v fridge, lights, fans, heaters. @@alzabeesww As a Baptist, I hope that Baptist group will keep its stupid mouth shut. My Baptist group is gathering supplies and getting ready to go help cleanup and feed people .
People now expect repairs to be immediate, like when they get an instant reply from Google. That's just plain stupid. It takes time and often heavy equipment to remove obstructions. Bridges and roads have to be repaired in order to get to the other side. And it's not like y'all weren't told to PREPARE or LEAVE THE AREA.
And that dock strike was arranged by convict45 at the RNC convention, in case y'all missed that one. Leave it to convict45 to always throw a monkey wrench in something. He thinks he's going to ride in and wave his tiny hand and solve it in some kind of nick of time. What a brainless putz!

So far, the critics to him sound like he should own all means of production, have the ability to nuke a hurricane away, or clean toxic spills by himself
A better question is how Hurricane Helene will now affect the vote for Americans caught in this tragic catastrophe.

What's the best way for people to help, Red Cross donation?
I wonder if Congress is sitting their way " oh shxt, we should have listened to James Hansen's warning in the 80's?"
By 2050 the cost per year for these disasters will be in the trillions per year. Maybe earlier.
We MUST elect someone next month who - unlike Trump - actually believes in climate change, or we will see more and more of these terrible events coming closer and closer together. Harris/Walz are willing to tackle this issue and have plans set to go to do so. Voting blue up and down the ticket will give them the backing needed to get 'er done. My prayers are with everyone suffering now because of the storm(s) this week across America.
I wish they could pararchute the National Guard into the smaller towns and hamlets, even if only to assess and triage.
And if anyone votes against expanding our infrastructure investment into a massive public works project, they're just un-American. With AI taking over our white collar jobs within years, all the damage that was done, and these poor folks losing their livelihoods, we've never needed a WPA-style initiative more.
Looking forward to Buttigieg as President
News people 🙄 What part of “we can’t say how long it will take” don’t you understand? …I’m pro union, but to use times like these to get what they want and essentially holding progress hostage is BS
Frankly without some sensible readjustment planning there is no point rebuilding those properties on land that gets repeatedly flooded. This will become an increasing problems as it has in Africa, resulting in inevitable population movement.
Can you also book Art Laffer as a guest? He can then opine on how wise Trump's $1 trillion tax cut was and how trickle down economics, aka "voodoo economics" by Bush 41 (who thanks to Trump is now viewed as a Founding Father), will fix everything.

Only watched this channel bc Secty Buttigieg was speaking, knew he would be spot on in his evaluations, composure, and plans to deal with this horrific disaster effectively, efficiently, and as we now know, still be able to prevent the strikers from adding to the already dire conditions facing the affected areas…otherwise I wouldn’t be bothered to watch, the talking heads were, imo, combative, just this side of disrespectful, and practically demanding answers regarding restoration to ‘normal’ before any reliable assessments can be or have been done, not to mention the trauma that people are going through and where they can turn to for help…there’s no magic wand to make everything alright, it’s too enormous, and now another hurricane, a cat 5, is happening on 10/10 looking to destroy Florida…the old world is ending, we cannot and do not need nor want to rebuild it, but we can and will build a better world if we choose to do so…adapt to change or perish with the past
Lets not forget, its less than 60 days before temperatures will be fatal for the seniors and gery young.
Its already October!
And who do you think is going to clean up the mess ? Immigrants, we all know it .
He is transportation secretary, not labor secretary or the wizard of weather patterns. Maybe the newscaster should be better informed before he/she begins the conversation. Part of their job is to help inform the public, not spar with the interviewee. If you want drama and gotcha, go over to FOX.
The topography and remoteness of the region alone is a huge logistics issue. Having said that, because of these issues, National guard and choppers should have been in full rescue/recover and help mode from the day following the flood. Rebuilding will take years but the recovery/rescue mission has drug its feet severely.
Maybe they should ask folks on Puerto Rico or in the Houston extended power outage area for some life hacks and other insights.
If resources were more equitably distributed locally and taxes owed were paid and oversight departments are seen as helpful vs predatory…..
That strike is entirely on the heads of USMX. Pay the workers!
Helicopter evacuation to a safe central center is what is primordinal. There are many Private Americans that have aircraft that could be used in mountenous regions local pilots known terrain. This what happens in most Democrat Countries in Europe.
I LOVE how locals, outsiders, charities, military, and governments work together! Especially how fast roads were being opened!!! Reminded me of my military days! Sad that local republican and democrat elected leaders, who know best, said partisan conspiracy rumors were hurting rescue efforts. PS I've looked at many videos from those there. Of course help can't get to every person fast enough. Of course some bad instances. One sheriff got in the way. An army helicopter accidently flew close to supplies and a report is being made. But other rumors were contradicted. Musk thanked Buttigieg for correcting his confusion between FAA and FEMA. And several rumors were nonsense like the government made the hurricane (they are natural but the unnaturally heated Gulf of Mexico makes them worse). America is great when we work together. Thanks.
