    Sorted my problem. Thanks. 1 comment - you don't need to remove the top cowl and have the difficulty of getting the rubber back in the slots. Once you got the bottom cowl off, the top will fold back out of the way. Saves some scratting. Put a mirror behind to see the slot to release the audio control - I have some of my wifes old make up compact lids which are ideal. Whole job from start to finish took less than 30minutes.

    This video is a Life saver for me.
    I just could not figure out why my fiesta mk6.5 was more dead then alive.
    It turns out that the ignition switch is faulty....
    The whole dashboard stays black when i turn the key in the ignition position.
    Then i found that if i pushed it a little more into the starter position the dash would come up, wait a few seconds and i could start the car ..
    But there is a sweet spot , which is hard to find, and this the point between failure and success.
    I can find it, but my wife not and is unable to start the car.
    The Fiesta is at the repair shop now, hopefully tomorrow they can install the new switch before 17:00, if not i pick up the car and pay for the new switch and install it myself.

      @@eddiesfixes i'll keep you posted.
      They charge me €18,30 without tax for the switch.
      By tomorrow i will know how much the labour was.....
      Just like some other reactions, it started with the immobilizer blinking fast, random.
      In the spring/summer no problem at all, fall and winter the gremlins return.
      But now with the dash staying black, or come up after a few seconds....
      So i hope that the switch is the problem.

    I think i may have the same issue.
    I have to hold the car key hard all the way round and keep it there giving it a wiggle at the end but dash lights go off and engine does not turn over.
    On the second attempt, it usually starts but engine and dash lights turn off by themselves very quickly.
    On third attempt if I give it a bit of gas, the engine starts and I have never had to press the gas pedal before to start this car.
    After that our 08 Fiesta mk6 tdci drives fine.
    In addition, my car key feels really loose in the ignition barrel and steering wheel does not lock when taking the key out.
    Do you think I need to replace the switch and the ignition barrel together to get everything working again.
    Great video by the way.

    • @eddiesfixes
      @eddiesfixes  Рік тому +1

      It sounds like it could be. If you have an extra pair of hands ask someone if they can listen for a click from the starter motor (the starter solenoid) when you try to start the car. If there's no click then I would imagine it would be the ignition switch at fault. It seems to be a common fault with them. Also regarding the ignition barrel, if the key seems loose then a new barrel would help and I believe it could resolve the steering lock issue, if not it could be an issue with the steering lock pin. Just bear in mind if your key fob battery runs out then you won't be able to unlock the car with the new key without changing the locks in the doors too or keeping the old key with you.

    Thanks for the video. Curious as to what symptoms you had before changing? Every now and again my fiesta turns over extremely weakly and it’s confusing me as it’s got a new starter and battery. It’s hard to describe but it’s almost like it gives up. Thanks

    • @eddiesfixes
      @eddiesfixes  11 місяців тому

      I would say have a look at the chassis earth, make sure it's tight and no rust or corrosion on it. Also check the battery terminals and starter live just to make sure they're tight too. If it starts on the key every time then it's probably not the ignition switch at fault.

    • @eddiesfixes
      @eddiesfixes  11 місяців тому

      It's a cheap fix changing the ignition switch so there's no harm in ruling it out tho.

    • @Ben-bu2jg
      @Ben-bu2jg 11 місяців тому

      @@eddiesfixes thanks a lot for replying. Where is the chassis Earth located? I’ll have a look at that later. It’s just weird because it’ll do it very randomly like once every 70 starts and often if it’s been hot.

    • @eddiesfixes
      @eddiesfixes  11 місяців тому +1

      @@Ben-bu2jg if you follow the battery earth it should lead to the earth ring terminal with a bolt on the chassis, use a scotch brite pad or something similar and a bit of wd40 to clean the earth ring terminal, the bolt and the part of the chassis that the earth contacts. There should be another earth cable from the chassis to the engine (you may have to do a quick google to find that one). If you do the same for this too then you can eliminate any earth issues as the starter motor is earthed through the engine earth.

    Hi, great video when I try turn the car on I do hear the click, however it occasionally starts. Could this be the ignition switch as I replaced this only a few weeks ago. The mechanic told me it was an electrical fault.

    • @eddiesfixes
      @eddiesfixes  Рік тому +1

      Thanks. does it click or start every time you turn the key to start. Does it try to turn over or just click? I would check terminal connections first as it doesn't cost anything to check, ie battery terminals, engine earth and starter terminals. Just make sure there's no movement in them, good earth connection and they're all tight. It does sound like it's possibly the battery or the starter motor at fault. If you have a volt meter try to check the voltage of the battery when it's not running. It should be around 12.6 - 13v.

    • @eddiesfixes
      @eddiesfixes  Рік тому +1

      Also. It would be worth checking if the click is from the fuse box or the starter motor. If you have an extra pair of hands you could ask someone to listen for the solenoid click on the starter motor. If the click is from the starter motor then it's likely there's an issue with the main live to the starter motor, an engine earth issue, a faulty battery or faulty starter motor. I hope this helps.

    • @eddiesfixes

      Not that I remember, it shouldn't cause the immobiliser to flash quickly as all you're removing is a switch that feeds the live to ignition components and to the starter.

    Great Video how! How can you tell the starter motor is getting no power? My car is having similar starting issues where if you cycle the ignition or leave the key in the on position for 30 seconds it will eventually start.

    • @eddiesfixes
      @eddiesfixes  Рік тому +1

      Hi, if you hear the starter click (the sound of the starter solenoid engaging) when you try to start the car then there's power to the starter motor. My partners fiesta wasn't getting power to the starter solenoid so you couldn't hear the solenoid "click". The battery was fine, so I thought it was likely to be a poor engine earth, loose wiring terminals on the starter or the ignition switch. I hope this helps.

      @@chriss2410 no worries. It's certainly worth a try and it sounds like it might be the switch. They're usually pretty cheap to buy. I think I found one on ebay for around £15.
      Another thought would be to check the immobiliser light goes out when you turn the key to ignition, which would rule out an immobiliser issue.

    I have similar problem. Try to turn on the car but it was at first like rapid flashing of immobilizer, red dot light, but manage to start after couple of minutes. Now its like the key is loose in ignition and moving the key have effect weather there is contact or not, like there is delaye contact when turning the key. Is the soultion in the video same for this problem as well?

    • @eddiesfixes

      If the immobilizer light is flashing with the ignition on then that sounds like it may be a different issue but if you have £15-20 spare to rule out an ignition switch fault then it wouldn't hurt to replace the ignition switch first.
