Thank you very much for using the color graphs. I was able to see exactly where I was hurting and get a better understanding on the why. I have a herniated disc L4/L5 and also had a meniscus repair done on the same leg I recently felt that sharp pain. Surgery was back in 2015, been wearing a sleeve or tape for support ever since. Taking medicine 💊 for to numb my sciatica nerve pain. But these last 2 weeks I used a different type of knee sleeve as I ran my 2 miles (Army Physical Test), and suddenly I felt this horrible nerve/muscle pain. It was not the typical knee pain from running or doing repetitive bending. Until I saw this video I was not aware what could had caused the pain, but know I feel more comfortable going to my Dr and referring to this video. Thank you
I've had this exact problem for 5 years following a total knee replacement. My surgeon ignored this very painful problem and suggested he repeat the knee replacement and also cut the popliteal tendon, which isn't my problem, because I don't need the popliteal tendon anyway. Then he said I need to quit complaining about pain. Five weeks ago a different surgeon did a "knee revision" by replacing the top portion of my bionic knee but once again, ignored the peroneal nerve damage. So, I'm right back where I started. There's WAY too much money in orthopedic surgery for surgeons to consider alternatives to surgery!!!! I shouldn't have to become a doctor to get medical care!!! After 5 years of dealing with this I've concluded the peroneal nerve was damaged during the first surgery, probably by a clamp of some kind. So, why did two different surgeons ignore the nerve problem and decide I needed a 2nd knee surgery? Well, knee surgery pays $50,000 where as an alternative treatment only pays a couple thousand.

Thanks so much for your video, I really appreciate it! I have a question, I have very small disc budges at L3-L4 L4-L5 with a small annual tear, would this cause the radicular symptoms around the knees that radiates to the feet? The pain the intense! Thank you for your time!

Wow, really great content. I’ve been searching for about four days relentlessly trying to find why my right for toes are going numb. I do have a pinched L4 nerve, but I honestly feel a little bit of pain on the medial side of my knee and then my feet go numb. I’m confused because everything I read says the perennial nerve is on the outside of the knee.is there another nerve on the medial side of the knee that could be causing my right toes to go numb?

I've had something messed up going on for 2 weeks. My range of motion was limited and my knee was swollen. If I bent my knee too much it caused extreme pain and stayed swollen. Last night I was stretch my hamstrings and calves and then fell asleep with my knee off the side of the couch on the floor. Sounds crazy but it felt right... I woke up and rolled over on my back, extended my leg out and up and felt a sudden sharp pain and an ice cold rush went through my knee and instant relief ensued. I know have full range of motion, the pain is gone aside from it being slightly sore, and the swelling has decreased by over 50% for the first time in weeks. Good God what a releief... I assume I should take it easy for a bit. This had to have been what was going on.
Hi 👋🏻, thanks for this video 😊. I have been having this same pain you described here and it started just about a month ago after having severe pains from a pinch nerve up by my hip on the same leg and side. Do you think it could be caused by the pinched nerve? 😩🙏🏻
Hi @crystalandlagreenga - it is possible. We always want to look for the root cause. Think of it this way, having an unstable, weak hip can cause the knee to do more of the work, causing it to become unstable itself. A pinched nerve can be treated with Prolotherpy - here is another video from Dr. Hauser on this matter if you'd like to take a look! ua-cam.com/video/Q6SOnJTHRdk/v-deo.html
Thank you! Great explanation! I'm having this pain and is hampering my running. My L4-L5 is Bone on bone and my L5-S1 is almost there. Is there strengthening exercises or stretching that can help with release this tension?
Hello @user-gn6wx4sc3c, So sorry to hear - there could still be some instability that is causing the pain. The knee is the #1 area that we treat at our clinic, and often treat patients that have had knee surgery but are still experiencing pain and symptoms. Danielle is great with the knee and would love to help you!
I just had a total knee replacement four weeks ago and I have the same pain going down to my foot between the big toe and the others… Now this has me worried I will be living with chronic pain when I never had pain prior to my knee surgery only very limited motion

Then it stops when I keep walking as well as being at work moving around a lot it doesn’t hurt but still feel a little bit of pain at times. So is it because of coughing so heavily? Nearly 12 years I had a heavy cough for days and hurt the muscle of my back and shoulder.

Hi Akmal, In our center, we see many patients where surgery did not resolve the numbeness or other symptoms and we look further to find the underlying reason for the symptoms which is most often related to joint instability. Therefore, in our videos, we discuss the ways to resolve joint instability with regenerative injection treatments. We hope that you will be able to resolve your symptoms, and if you feel that you'd like our team to review your case, we're happy to talk with you and possibly see you in our center. Wish you all the best in health and resolving your condition. Take care.

Hi Robert, Good question, some people only need one and others might need more like 4-6. It depends on many factors with regard to the severity of the case, the person's daily activities and stress on the nerves, healing ability, etc.. It is something to bring up to the provider and see how many treatments they think you were going to need. We give our patients an estimate during the initial visit and check in along the way.

Often, patients tell us that we are the 10th or more provider that they've seen before really understanding their issue and getting a solid treatment plan to resolve it. Hope you are able to find a Prolotherapist who may be able to help you determine if this is due to joint instability and/or be able to evaluate if a type of regenerative injection treatment would be appropriate for you and help you get back to running without restriction. If you feel that you would like our help on your case in the future, you are welcome to reach out to us directly. We wish you all the best in healing!

Hi Abhisheik Athimoolam, Thank you for sharing your story and we're sorry to hear about your post-surgical nerve irritation. Without seeing you in the office to physically examine your knees we could not advise you specifically. We do treat many people after they had knee surgery and are then dealing with residual issues whether that is nerve pain/numbness or instability/popping in the joint with walking, etc. Patients usually come to see us when the pain or numbness has become a rather irritating sensation that gets in the way of them being able to return to work/activities/sports, is waking them up at night, etc. If you are struggling to get back to your activities and would like our team to take a look at your case, we'd be happy to discuss your case in more detail and see if you sound like a good candidate for our center. We wish you all the best in continued healing.
I had a TKR 1.5 years ago. The pain down the front of my knee is sometimes unbearing. A few days ago, I got a nerve block done and that pain is still down the front of my leg. If I stand, bend down to touch my toes, when standing back up the pain is terrible. What do you suggest because apparently, the docs aren't getting it to well!
Hi Melissa, So sorry to hear about what you're going through! Glad you are looking into some potential options. We would not be able to make a specific recommendation over the internet, understandably. But we use dynamic ultrasound to look at the joint more closely under motion and see if there is knee instability, nerve compression, or other structural issues when the joint is under stress that could be helped by Prolotherapy and/or nerve release (hydrodissection). It is something we see and treat regularly. If you would like our team to help on your case, you are welcome to reach out to us directly. We wish you all the best in healing and getting back to your full function asap! Take care.
Hi! I’m 25 and don’t have any injuries, arthritis, or nerve disorders. When I run, and pretty much only when I run, I experience knee pain which leads to drop foot. Could this be peroneal compression?

If you are in the Fort Myers, Florida area, we'd be happy to help. Otherwise, we hope you can find a provider who can do some examination and give you a proper diagnosis and recommendation so you can keep running for many many years to come. @@anthonygrant7819 I believe so. After seeking a second opinion and narrowing down where I felt like the initial pain was coming from (under my knee cap) I had another MRI done and they think it’s IT Band Syndrome. So basically my IT Band is super tight which causes friction with the surrounding joints, bones, and nerves. Doing some more research too, some of the symptoms I was having sort of make sense. Running on uneven ground will make it worse, which would happen to me if I consistently ran outside. Another thing I read is it’s also caused by the angulation of your knee and you sometimes feel a pop on the back of your knee if you move a certain way. This happens to me when I do a sumo-deadlift or sumo-squat and it sends a tingly feeling down my leg into my toes. Unfortunately, I haven’t felt much relief even after several rounds of PT, stretching and rolling everyday per the direction of my doctor. But I was told it can be tough because you can’t really stretch your IT band, only the muscles surrounding it. I’m going to continue working on that for awhile, then track my “progress” or pain level by running on a treadmill which is flat. Hope this helps some and things get better for you!

We wish you all the best in health.
Hi Christian, Thanks for your question. Referral pain and tightness is common with ligament injuries. So as the old song goes "the hip bone's connected to the knee bone..." etc. Ligament injury in one area can refer pain to others or cause other areas to overcompensate and become tight or fatigued. This is why a physical exam is so important for chronic pain cases. Someone who is skilled with doing a thorough physical exam and ultrasound exam can determine the underlying cause of the pain and then appropriate treatment can be recommended.
I don't see how a "shot" of anything can release the pressure on this nerve, or how this would be a lasting solution. If it was this easy no one would need a surgery.
Hi Sam, Prolotherapy is a REGENERATIVE medicine technique. Meaning when you get prolo, you are promoting the grow of normal cells and tissues, healing those ligaments, tendons, and joints. It is a lasting solution because it is stopping degeneration from happening. Degeneration happens over time meaning if caught early enough, it can be reversed. Unfortunately, there are times where Prolotherapy cannot be an option for example when there is a bone on bone situation, we cannot make a new ligament or tendon out of nothing. We have a lot of great information on our website if you'd like to look further.
I’ve been having knee pain and numbness all along my shin for the past 4 years. Could this be the same thing? The pain made me medically discharge from the armed forces. I’ve been told that all the ligaments are fine as well.
Hi Alex, Thanks for sharing your story and so sorry that the condition forced you to be discharged from the armed forces. Sounds awful! We would not know for sure without seeing you in person and being able to perform some physical exam tests and motion ultrasound of the knee and possibly further up the leg, low back to determine what exactly is happening, and then develop a treatment recommendations. Our team is happy to review your case in more detail if you wanted to be considered as a possible candidate for our Florida treatment center. Whenever i rest my knee or sit down i get a fluctuating pain now and again and has become an interference when trying to sleep, but when i put pressure onto it i feel no pain and i feel a lot more comfortable. The first time I have had this problem was back in school which was 2 years ago and had to sit on stools in my science class which maybe led to this problem whenever I would ask my parents they would just tell me its growing pains but i only get it in my right knee. So I’m hesitant to get a MRI or CT scan but it might not be that big of deal, What do you think i should do?
Hi Tofty, sorry to hear about your knee pain that comes and goes. We do not think that chronic pain should be ignored and hope that you can get in to see a specialist.. MRI/CT are usually used when patients are considering surgery, but many non-surgical providers do not necessarily jump into tests like that for everyone right away when a lot can be determined by a proper physical exam, history, and ultrasound. We discuss a lot of that in our other videos and webinars. We hope you find a provider who will take your concerns seriously and be able to do a physical exam and determine if there is some joint instability or other concerns that can be treated. If you feel that you need our Prolotherapy team for your case, we would be happy to talk with you in more detail, and you are welcome to contact us directly through our website.

Is the peroneal nerve pretty deep within the knee? Or is it more superficial. Is it more running along the back of the knee then the side
Thank you!! This was Great!!
I’ve had 3 Discectomys & 1 laminectomy L4 & 5, L5 S1- these bulging discs have been operated on twice now. I now have left side of my thigh totally numb
What about for inside of the knee ? Near the bursa , any video for that ?

I had knee surgery for a tear in my meniscus and I get this pain on the side and it’s a sharp pain to my shin when I do cardio.
Hello @user-gn6wx4sc3c, So sorry to hear - there could still be some instability that is causing the pain. The knee is the #1 area that we treat at our clinic, and often treat patients that have had knee surgery but are still experiencing pain and symptoms. I just had a total knee replacement four weeks ago and I have the same pain going down to my foot between the big toe and the others… Now this has me worried I will be living with chronic pain when I never had pain prior to my knee surgery only very limited motion

Thank you for posting this. I got a question, so you’re telling me if I had an ultrasound it would show what was going on with the nerve?

Hi Akmal, In our center, we see many patients where surgery did not resolve the numbeness or other symptoms and we look further to find the underlying reason for the symptoms which is most often related to joint instability. Therefore, in our videos, we discuss the ways to resolve joint instability with regenerative injection treatments. We hope that you will be able to resolve your symptoms, and if you feel that you'd like our team to review your case, we're happy to talk with you and possibly see you in our center. Wish you all the best in health and resolving your condition. Take care.

How many times do you normally need PRP to help with nerve issues? I have had it done three times.
After 2k run I get this nerve pain which is dabilitating. I have to stop running but when walking its fine. Driving me crazy. Been to 4 physios and cannot get it sorted

Hi Ren, Glad to hear you are otherwise healthy! It would be impossible to know for sure without a proper physical exam and we'd likely do an ultrasound of the area too. If you are in the Fort Myers, Florida area, we'd be happy to help. Otherwise, we hope you can find a provider who can do some examination and give you a proper diagnosis and recommendation so you can keep running for many many years to come. Wish you all the best in health!
Did you find any solution? I have this exact same issue
Thank you for sharing this!

Otherwise, you could try searching for the therapy itself and see what comes up around you. We wish you all the best in health.
Would this cause the groin area to be tight as well?
