Love your Videos Mike. I started collecting antique vintage outboards over 10 years ago. But I kinda lost interest after amassing over 100 units. Then I went on to collecting Stationary and Hit and Miss Engines. Started seeing your videos and I’ve caught the fever again. When it’s -40 below up here in the Winter, watching your videos and working on Outboards are a great way to get through the cold months. Keep up the Great Work Mike. 👍👍👍

Good one Mike. I've seen folks with the head of vehicle engines hit the cylinders with a wood block but this is great for old outboards to try for sure.

I love vintage outboards. I personally only have 3 but they are all three very low hours. The 1979 6 H.P. Evinrude I have is mint with only 10 hours on it, and the 1968 6 H.P. fisherman is also near mint with an estimated 30 hours on it. My pride is my 1988 8 H.P. Johnson that i bought from an estate sale in 2009 and it was still in the factory crate it came in and it now has 6 hours run time on it. I'm also a longtime fan of vintage hot rods and customs and have restored many of them over the past 55 years and still have 2 that we drive and show. A 1949 Ford mild custom with a hoped-up flathead V-8, and a 1932 Ford roadster with a Roush built 450 H.P. 351W. I love your videos, and you make them a pleasure to watch. Keep it up, and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

My granddad add acetones to the transmission oil because he said when they mix together the acetone will help bring the oil deeper into tight crevices and break down the rust a little. I don’t know if it actually helped but together, we broke open many seized engines from tractors to old cars to small engines. Love that you’re going to be able to bring back that engine.

One of the reasons I have seen them cease up is when people use the motor and then lay it down or turn it upside down, even for a minute. The bit of water that remains in the water pump flows up and into the cylinder. I've seen some nice little motors get ruined by this. Always keep them upright.

Thanks for sharing this great tip T-Mike! Do you you have tip for a seized transom clamp screw as well? I have one i tried to unseize by applying carb cleaner and sticking it in the vice, but no luck so far. I'll try transmission fluid too 🤞🏻

I've drilled a small hole at a 90° angle to reach the clamp's threads and injected a 50-50 ATF+acetone mix that I let stand for 12 hours. Works wonders ! Regards.

T mike, I have a 300r merc that had 10 hours on it. It hydrolocked. The head is beautiful. The plugs are all clean . How would I go about seeing what has it ceased? I drove it for 15 seconds when it was smoking .

Hey T-Mike! Hope you can please help. So I put the ATF in and it seemed to just keep taking it, a lot of fluid and never filled. I had it tilted up with plugs pointing in the air as shown. I tilted it back to normal position and all the atf came out of the lower end. Do you think it just came out of the exhaust or slipped past a lower crankshaft seal? Do I leave it tilted up for the whole day soak? Will it leak backwards into the carb if I leave it titled up? I appreciate any guidance.

Leaking out exhaust port. That is ok.

I GOT IT TURNED OVER!!!! Thank you T Mike, my late uncle Mike would be proud I’m making progress. The coils are shot, I’m about to buy coil 18-5181 on your store, are the ignition systems the same for these gale buccaneers as all omc johnson/evinrudes of that era? If so and 18-5181 is the correct coil, what would be the appropriate condenser part number? The points and plug wires look great. Thanks again T Mike!

@@michaeljsimon SHE’S RUNNING! After I broke her loose, I used a carb kit and changed the coils with your used ones you sell on eBay, got spark and put her in the tank and she runs! Pumping water and all. Broke the pull rope but once that’s fixed she’ll be on the water. My uncle Mike would be proud. Thank you T Mike!
