- TWO teenage girls have become best friends due to both having albinism. Lucy Carpenter, 14, and Sammy McCombe, 13, from Melbourne, Australia, have a rare form of albinism.The mothers of the teenagers immediately noticed something was different about their children as soon as they were born, but only received a diagnoses a few weeks after. The pair first met as just babies, when their mother’s went to a support event for families with children with albinism. After briefly losing contact, they rekindled their friendship and have been inseparable ever since.

i dont understand why people with this condition get made fun of, because they are beautiful, they look like angels.
THANK YOU!! I have albinism but the hair on my head is slightly darker than there's but everything else is the same. And my eyes have bit more pigment in them but I am albino and 14. So many kids at school judge me for it and I hate it. I let it get to me in Grade 7 and didn't want to go to school and tried to just hide myself but now I'm proud to show it and really don't care that im different from everyone else. I just wish i could find a best friend like that. The only difference is i colour in my eyebrows and put mascara on when i go to school because i still am not fully confident.

The only negative thing about Albinism is that their vision is affected and it makes me sad that blindness has to occur.

I’m a fellow red head. I used to have strawberry blonde hair but it turned a little more red in my 20s. I still have terrible skin even though I’m in my 40s. I use factor 50 or 100 in the sun!

I’m am Albino myself. I don’t really get teased a lot because everybody at my school is really nice. I’m really the only one who stands out in the crowd but everybody does. That’s what makes us unique!
I used to be friends with an albino. She was one of the best friends I've ever had. Unfortunately she died of skin cancer when she was 24. She always wore special sunscreen, but you can't get everywhere all the time. Best thing I can tell you is to wear loose fitting white long sleeve clothes in the summer made of cotton. You'll thank me when you grow old.

im super lucky to have basically the same hair as them, and i dont even have albinism. i just have naturally a very light hair.. although its getting darker from underneath my hair :(

I had a close friend who sadly passed away a few year ago but he had albinism. I never once saw him differently and he had best heart and soul out of anyone I knew. I miss you Sammy.

I literary when I saw people with this condition I wished I had it cuz they look so gorgeous/handsome.
I like how the mom said, "Instead of just *watching* them, why don't *you do* something like that?" That's a great approach to encouraging your child to do positive things they'll enjoy. It all worked out in the end too!

As a redhead I can safely claim that being different is an awesome thing. Although Albinism and red hair are two different things I still feel like their similarities is that they're very rare. Albinism and MC1R are amazing things to have. If you have either one or even both, EMBRACE IT!

I’m a red head and I have a boyfriend with Albinism.
I graduated with an albino, one of the most liked guys in our grade. He always kept a girlfriend and talked to everyone. We had a couple classes together and it didn’t take long for the teachers to separate us because we were always cutting up. We kept in touch some after school but marriage, kids, and life happened. It’s been at least 15 years since I him.
You girls should look into modeling, I can see you all being on Front Covers of a high in magazine ! Because its different, and you make different look absolutely beautiful ! Very stunning! !

A kid in my class has albinism, and he gets bullied everyday and I kinda feel bad.
Like he would get picked on about where his eyebrows are, why his eyelashes are white, why he was so pale, and why his hair was practically white, etc. Some people would also spot these huge pimples and just throws stuff at him like he wasn’t human, and it bugs me. I’m glad I don’t do that kinda stuff to others, like let the kid live ya know?

I have albinism too! This was awesome to watch! I love your guys story and I hope the best for both of you. I am 17 almost 18 and through my high school years I struggled with being different. It wasn't easy standing out so much and people staring. My big piece of advice to you two is to stay strong and stay by each others side. Through the highs and the lows. You may be "different" to this world but your just like anyone else! your heads high and just embrace who you are. What matters is your inner self. Not your outward appearance. You appearance is what people judge. But if people really get to know a person they'll find that your just like everyone else.

All my friends neglected me once i dropped out of high school before the 11th grade because my learning issues got the best of me and my health . The eyes
you have to figure in the fact that they are Paperwhite so like most white things they reflect colors around them like when they were wearing those bright jumpers they looked reddish. Plus they still have blood and it's still red so they can get flush. also their hair may be stained almost a yellowish from constant touching with their hands. skin oil and all. You have to remember they're not aliens they just don't have as much pigment as everyone else

I have albinism too, OCA 1b, which means I have more pigment than some people but my skin and hair are still rly light and I can’t see well. I love meeting/learning about other people with albinism too, and knowing I’m not the only one ♥️
