While I agree with Johnny being east asf, what you're describing (a 50/50) is one of the most common mix up mechanics in fighting games, and if you have a problem with them then fighting games are not for you

Only 3 characters in MK1 have real 5050s you know 😂 Grabs are fundamental parts of all 2D fighters, for a lot of characters they’re the only way to force people off of block. But really, what I should say is: Skill issue
