- Researching a law firm's deals for your application is important for a couple of reasons. It helps you develop a better understanding of the firm and what sort of work it does. But beyond that, by discussing it effectively in your application, you can show your understanding, research and commercial awareness.
A lot of people know the importance of researching deals but not enough people really research them in enough depth. If you're just name-dropping deals without understanding the context behind them, it's usually clear to see.
So in this video, I go through a 3-step process that you can use to pick the perfect deal for you and then really and thoroughly understand it.
I hope this video will help you out in your applications! Use the comments section to let me know your thoughts and what topics you want me to cover.

This was so useful! I really appreciate the examples, instead of the usual vagueries.
I'm so glad to hear that, Izzy!
That's my goal - to try and take things out the abstract as much as possible.
hi idin! this is such a godsend! i was so stuck on how to prepare for my vac scheme interview, and i found the three-part structure a great way of laying out the whole process. have also found your other videos immensely helpful, and i think all aspiring lawyers should be watching them. hats off to you, and thank you for taking time to help others
Thanks so much! I'm really glad to hear you found it useful.
If there's anything else you'd like me to cover, let me know and I'll add it to the topic list ☺

Hi Idin, I just want to say a big THANK YOU for this video. I keep coming back to it with every application!
Hey Naomi! Thank you so much for your comment. It really means a lot to me (and good motivation for me to keep posting, as I've got lazy with the schedule recently!)
Good luck in the applications 🤞
@@IdinSabahipour Honestly, they are more useful that I could ever explain. And I just got an AC from the most recent application where I used this method! It was particularly helpful since there wasn't much information regarding deal in the firm's website so I think that creating a personal link (as you suggested) really helped :)
@@naomisaenzcoloma1706 Yes!!! Congratulations on the AC - that's such a massive achievement. 🙏
Getting past the written app is such a challenge and I'm glad to hear you're passing that stage now! ☺
In terms of actually writing about this in the application, how much detail of the actual deal should you go into before talking about why it interests you? (I'm just curious because some firms only have 250 words for you to talk about why you're applying to them)
Hey - so it really depends on the question.
If it's 250 words on why you're applying to them, it might be worth discussing a deal you've been interested in that backs up a significant reason for your interest (e.g. I like your firm as they're established in the Real Estate sector. This deal X really interested me because...). I wouldn't spend the whole 250 words talking about a deal.
However, going through the whole process is still super useful as it will benefit you once you get to the interview stage when you may be able to discuss the deal in more depth.
Either way, it's a good process to help develop commercial awareness too.
This is a very helpful video. Idin is it possible that you can mentor me.
I'm glad you found it helpful, Mohammad.
I'm not able to take on new mentees at the moment (just cause of time commitments) but if you have specific questions you think I can help with, hit me up on LinkedIn or IG!
@@IdinSabahipour thank you so much for this i will message you on linkedin .

Yeah - Agreed to be honest.
I've tried to sort it in later videos, though! Thanks for the feedback.
