According to lead singer Isaac Slade, the song was composed and influenced by his experience while working as a mentor at a camp for troubled teenagers "One of the youngsters I was paired up with was a musician. Here I was, a protected suburbanite, and he was just 17 and had all these problems. And no one could write a manual on how to save him."
My first job was at a secured facility for juvenile offenders with serious psychiatric problems. Most definitely more than just a “camp.” But when I first heard this song, it immediately reminded me of my time there. I later found this reference and was shocked at the similarities.

This right here is why I am an India fan. So many other reactors on UA-cam try to sound wise or funny or mug for the camera in an attempt to get likes. You, on the other hand, are wise naturally. Like everyone, you have been through some things, but you don't shy away from expressing the effects those things have had on you, and the insights you have gained in the process. Whether laughing or crying, the genuine heartfelt honesty of your reactions is something to be admired.

I'm still here too but there are alot of people I've known that needed that ear and never found the right one. Now they are gone and what they needed to say never got a listen. I know so many who gave up and it killed their pain but increased others. It's sad and I actually have a plan on how, but I'll never give up. Listen to people. Feel through them. There was a reason I subscribed to your channel early on. You have the exact same reaction to this song as me and yeah, I've been in that place before and I am battling it right now. Half of my family have disowned me due to child abuse I experienced at the hands of my step father. No self esteem makes it harder, esp when you grew up in a house with no love (or fake love), no kindness and never being seen or heard.This song helps me to see I am not alone. Thank you India. My dad was a child/teen psychologist. I resented all the time he spent away. How he would drop things with us when the phone rang.
But we were always clothed,fed, safe and whether we thought so or not cared about.
It's been more than a decade since dad passed. I still hear from people who say they would not be here if not for him.

Most people don't want to stop living. They just want to stop living the way it is.

One of my favorite songs of all time ... just beautiful.
I always have a powerful emotional reaction to this song too. Probably because I've had to be the person to save my friends' lives on more than one occasion. Sometimes it felt like I was acting as an unlicensed therapist, which was a lot for ME to deal with too. I carry a lot of darkness not only from my own struggles, but from the struggles of those who've confided in me too.

This song was introduced to me by my daughter. She said it reminded me of my son when he came home from the war in Afghanistan with PTSD. He passed away 3 years later at the age of 29, in a motorcycle accident. It always makes me cry, but I still listen to it.

I've been around for a while. I've had my fair share of life's worst possible hurt/disappointments. Some to sad to mention. As Jim Morris said, "MUSIC IS YOUR ONLY FRIEND UNTIL THE END". it's what pulls me through in dark times. Your smile is contagious it makes you strong and puts light into others. Your a sensitive woman this is clear. But that sensitivity is what makes you good at your work. Some people are stronger than others, and are able to rebound easier. It's how to reset our minds back to the positive, when possible. Just a little crack will let light in.

It’s hard and I’m sorry your going through that. I find that listening to “Be Still” by the same band helps sooth my thoughts and heart when I need it the most.

2010 I felt so cold. I tried to act hard and dive into working three jobs to stay focused. The colder and harder I became the more fragile I was. I once had a day off and these destructive thoughts hit my head and I went to the movie the water at 11 AM. I saw the movie how to train your dragon I just needed to get my mind off myself. I watch this movie and it filled my world with color again I felt the innocence I walked out quit my two extra jobs began to run every morning and just my kind was in awe I felt happy the bad thoughts were negated and I always remember this song because it’s like I split into two. The stronger version that was in the verge of ending things and the weaker self who could talk to me and say come on now get up let’s get up and let’s go run

"what could i have done differently?". i dont think about her everyday anymore, but when i do i usualy watch the fray and have alittle cry time by myself. for some reason today i
thought that maby i could find a react video and someone to "share" the pain with. thank you for sharing and reacting the way you did, genuine and real! and stay strong, suicide is never the answer.
