My head cannon is that the imperial soldiers are the French, the guard the British, the armada the Spanish, the islanders natives obviously, with the pirates pirating around the Caribbean and running into multiple factions on their adventures. This reflects history as well because the 3 European powers held multiple possession within the Caribbean. I can’t tell you how many guards and soldiers I bought on eBay growing up to stage epic Napoleonic line battles.
Instead of the two factions being different nations I think they're part of the same empire, with the imperial soldiers being the sovereign and the imperial guard being a private trading company based off the British East India Company.
Then they must both be the French? Or else how do you explain the fleur de lys Then again there definitely are Spanish so it might well just be representing the 3 nations most prominent in the Caribbeans
@@thierryandries1448 I don"t think they're french, british, or any real world nation, They're just based on them. Like how Lego city is it's own city within the lego setting and not a representation of a real city
I think the imperial guard is like some sort of special forces group, like the old guard for the frenchs, they might have been send by the empire and replace the imperial soldiers becuase of the pirates being to effective. That would be a interesting reason why they might have won agaisnt the pirates being more experienced.
I think the reason why they’re using plain black hats is because that’s what the imperial soldiers looked like back in the day. Still though, it’s a REMAKE, not a direct rerelease. Not sure why they couldn’t give fans better hats
@@OurToyWorld especially considering it's a high-end €/$200+ product, lol. 2015 Pirates line provided printed shakos in $10-30 sets, but we don't have those in a highly priced ICONS product cuz """reasons"""
I think there's something important to consider While yes, the British are known for their red coats, however their navy wore blue coats. My personal head canon for all this is that The Imperial Soldiers are the primary military, they're doing their thing, posting in forts and what not. But when the pirates became a problem, the Imperial guard was established to focus on combating pirates.
You’re actually not far off while yes the royal navies officers and some sailors do wear blue royal Marines are posted on ships as well, and wear the traditional red coat and act as protection for the captain and insurer order on the vessel is maintained they also participate in combat when boarding’s happen, or they are close enough to form firing lines
I love your headcannon of the 2 factions being British and French, also when you think about it you can have battles between The British and the Legorado soldiers for that American revolution feeling
Thank you Klay! I love your theory. It’s awesome how LEGO provided fans with all sorts of factions and groups with their themes in the 80s and 90s- not just one set of good guys and one set of villains.
WOW! I didn't know there was so much lore around LEGO pirates! It makes all my pirate sets have to much more meaning, especially Barracuda Bay! Thanks for the thorough explanation!
Thanks for the support Dalton. As someone that's done a lot of research, what do you think of my summary of the available information we have on the lore? Would love to hear your thoughts- good and bad.
I like to think that the imperial flagship marks the end of captain brick beard and that the imperial guards were transporting him to be executed for his crimes against the imperial crown and that his crew and ship were defeated by the imperial guards earlier on and that they were sailing away into the sunset as the brick bounty burned and sunk beneath the waves with the crew left behind to drown or get eaten by sharks and is probably the reason why he is never seen again in the next wave of pirate sets since his crew is dead and he has no one to come to rescue him from the imperial guards leaving him to be trapped with a horrible fate awaiting him when he arrives at the imperial guards fort once at the fort he is led to a court house where he is sentenced to death by hanging he is then dragged to a cell where he spends the night and then in the morning he is led to a crowd of people who are gathered to watch him hang he is then greeted by the governor who then addresses the crowd while a noose is put around his neck the governor then points to the executioner who pulls the lever which drops him he dangles for a few seconds then suffocates and dies the crowd then cheers since he is a pirate the imperial guards toss his lifeless body into the ocean instead of giving him a proper burial and watch as sharks feed off it the governor smiles as he watches the sunset over the ocean thinking how he has finally put an end to brickbeards reign of terror in the Caribbean kind of dark but pirates didn’t get happy endings in real life like they do in movies
LMAO, dude, you've really got carried away with this one 😂 Ngl tho, this is a great argument to why we haven't seen Brickbeard ever since the Imperial Flagship release! Actually, I'd like to add something to your statement here: the last set in the 2009 Pirates lineup was 6253 "Shipwreck Hideout". The box art for this set depicts 2 Imperial Guards arriving to the Brickbeard's hideout, which was built (well, funny enough) upon the shipwreck. But what can also be seen in the right corner of that box art is a silhouette of a big ship anchored nearby! Given what you've said here, sir, I guess it's safe to say the hideout was built upon the shipwreck of the Brickbeard's Bounty, which has gotten into the storm or was hunted down by the Imperial Flagship (or maybe the former was a direct consequence of the latter, lol), that's why the location of this hideout was eventually tracked down by Imperial Guards, two of whom went to do some sort of recon, got their аssеs kicked while doing so (as we can see in the comic provided within the instruction manual of 6253), then returned back to the Imperial Flagship, reported everything to Governor Tierney (the 2009 Governor's name according to Brickipedia) - and the rest of what you've suggested followed 😁 DANG, I feel like we've discovered some fine storytelling behind 2009 Pirates wave here 😂
@@OurToyWorld that'd be fun 4sure! 2009 Pirates reboot was my introduction to the theme & actually - my first LEGO experience 😁 Love the content, m8, keep it all up 😉🤜🏻🤛🏻
What about a possible comeback as Imperial Privateer, raiding Armada trade ships? Wouldn't it be awesome to have a set where he boards an Armada treasure galleon? :)
@@OurToyWorld ok sweet! I have 8 of the old islanders and 2 of their ships, classic monkey and my own MOC of their island 🏝️ cant wait. They did have a more recent CMF of new islander but I have the 1990’s old ones.
I have always favored the Bluecoat Soldiers sets. Better equipment and figures in most sets. I don't like that Lego felt it necessary to include Pirates in most of the Imperial sets in general. Both factions were already significantly outnumbered as it was to begin with.
@@OurToyWorld I think the set looks awesome. I will probably get one sooner or later. Unfortunately I'm probably too late to get the Barracuda Bay set at a reasonable price.
The Red Coats are Infantry, from the Army, and the Blue Coats are Marines or Naval Infantry. It's pretty much exactly like the British Uniforms of they time, they varied from Regiment to Regiment.
It feels so great hearing someone like you using the proper name soldiers and guards. The laman just calls them imperials and i’m too invested in the lore of pirates to not get triggered by that
One day Imperial Flagship, one day thou shalt be mine! Can you imagine how great it would be if they reimagined Imperial Flagship? At least then I would not have to rob a bank before I got my Imperial Flagship.
The Royal Navy wore blue The English army wore red, although artillery in the army wore blue. So it seems like the pirates got the best of the Royal Navy and they called in the English army East India Company Division to sort out the mess as their main interest was trade not conquest unless that conquest benefitted trade.
nice lore compilation and connection with the treasure chest on the pirates’ new flagship with the defeat of the imperials. Would you mind sharing what kind mic you use for your videos?
Didn’t the armada flagship devastated Captain Red Beards new ship (Red Beard Runner) and that was nearly the end for him ? Sneaking out of the situation leaving his crew behind while the armada ship annihilated the Red Beard Runner ? That’s what I read somewhere
What if in future Lego would added a new Pirate faction which would be Asian theme pirates based on( or inspired by) China(Ladrones) and(or) Japan(Wokou)
I look at it like the western and eastern roman army. They roam different parts of the Caribbean under different leaders whilst having similar purposes 🤷
The new Eldorado Fortress is amazing, and was in my collection on day 1. I also obtained set 40504 at the Lego House during my Billund trip. What do you think about my theory of the 3 Imperial factions being allied under the king?
I see the Imperial Soldiers as French, and the Imperial Guards are English. While the Imperial Armada is obviously Spanish.
I wanted to say the same thing :).
