well cocaine was legal back then but at that time day didn't call it cocaine day didn't even know it was a drug back then day called it medicine thats wat day thought it was to them and u see day talked different back n those days like we talk different n our days so yeah everyone was on cocaine back then literally

This is a take on His Girl Friday, a movie from 1940 starting Cary Grant and Rosalind Russel.
Actually 30's and 40s not 50s.
This is a specifically trait of screwball comedy (30s-40s as mentioned), not all "old" films. I personally found His Girl Friday a bit obnoxious in its exaggerated witty (and pretty abusive! :D) banter and hectic pace, even compared to other classics in the genre. Conversely, I really like Bringing Up Baby and love Arsenic and Old Lace.
@@urbaniteurbanizer1612 yep that and Barbara Stanwyck in Meet John Doe. Katherine Hepburn did that kind of talking in some movies too. Jennifer Jason Leigh did a great take on it in the Hudsucker Proxy.

Finally someone admitting how hard it is to follow that fast "Screwball Comedy" talking! Kristen's old time accent was great and loved Zooey's
"you guys are whacked" bit is such vindication to people like me who like it slower...Loved the way she parodied it and tried unsuccessfully to do it lol!

I never had any problem and they left out the overlapping dialogue. Which was done to make sound even faster than it was.

I miss the mid-Atlantic accent.
You can buy CDs today that teach it, believe it or not. You can find the same for just about any accent, they're produced for actors.

I'm not a native English speaker but I'm seeing always snl cause I love this show. And when I started to watch this one I thought "this accent from the old movies..how they could speak so fast?" And to my surprise the skit address exactly this issue through Zoey. Loved it.

I'm fairly certain the Bojack Horseman reporter lady was meant to evoke Katharine Hepburn and especially her character from The Philadelphia Story and His Girl Friday.

Loved Kristen Wiig’s accent and acting in this. Spot on! Amazing fast delivery of lines. LIVE! And I used to watch those classic films, and wondered if they somehow sped them up in the recording playbacks. But, seeing Kristen do it live, so fast, is so amazing. Talent!

The new audience only appreciates stupid plot, poor writing, and so called uncontrolled/ out of character laughters of one of the comedians. The comedians of course only laugh when the audience is not laughing yet because the skit is so bad.
I am in love with this entire skit. I cd have watched hours of it, a whole movie or even series. It’s how I’d feel in that environment, but it’s an environment I admired in those movies! Executed to perfection except Zoe’s makeup was really smeared. How come she looked all blurred and shiny? Kristen and Jason were on point 100%.

When I first saw classic movies back in the 80’s when I was a kid, I was so impressed by how fast they spoke. I also really liked the accent. It’s transatlantic. They had to learn how to talk like that.

I just watched "His Girl Friday" for the first time. Racism and gratuitous sacrifice of a secondary female character aside - - ha! - - a great film. This skit is methadone to the heroin of that film. Thanks, SNL!
