You are exactly right about factories getting the lowest bidder to reman their engines. Every manufacturer does that. The bottom line is all they think about unfortunately, have had my share with reman stuff, and best you can hope for when a customer gets one is 50% of them living. Just my experience, and I rebuild mine every time it’s possible, screw reman junk.

I had that. Years ago I had a 50 series reman put in my old 8430. Tillage only. The very day the warranty expired I was disking and it threw a rod. I called the dealer at 4:00. The owner about had a stroke, but they stood behind it. Got another one and it has been in there probably 2500 hours. It has been a good tractor again - like it was when it was new. I hope that engine lasts the rest of my farming career.

After watching this, I finally subscribed!!! I've been saying for many years, if Kubota's are as dependable as some lead us to believe. Then why do you not see them in the fields as much as Deere, CNH or Agco tractors. 9 out of 10 on youtube that boast about Kubota reliability are those who are compact tractor owners with a couple acres. I have a good friend of mine that has owned Kubota's (100hp tractors) for many many years, he buys them brand new BUT will trade them off between 1200 to 1500 hours max on them. At the same time, he owns Deere tractors, these are 7 series MFWD's that he purchases USED with 2500 hours on the low end and keeps for the long run.

Yeah but most guys don't check the engines before they install they just go ahead and install it thinking it's all good without taking shit apart first. Thunderhead always takes his ford motors apart and checks them before he installs it. It's a bit different on these larger motors though .

That is exactly why I rather spend the money and do it myself and have all the machine work done. Where they do remanded engines is a factory a lot of them just do one part of the engine and are on some kind of production so many a day and when someone doesn’t show up that day they will move people around to keep things going. I worked in factory and seen people checking parts that don’t know how to read a scale, calipers on micrometers but in QA department.I have not worked on very many Diesel engines. But have put remanded engines in a few cars and trucks. Never had any luck with them. Have rebuilt a few old tractor engines and never had a problem with them. I am working on a 1956 super 55 olive right now. You are right to speak your mind about your coveralls.

when kubota first took a step into "farm tractors" i think was a 7950 model . it was a FIAT clone , nearly . kubota manufactured for sure , but a fiat design base unit with kubota front drop axle . worked good , but first one i saw from a farm . was pushed by silage wagon , floated a valve . rebuildable , but in late 80s engines ?? and wet brake tractor , was kinda weird .

Brilliant Warren and very funny. There's a Japanese field mechanic somewhere unhappy with US tractors. The culture is so different it makes you wonder why guys in the us buy Japanese kit. Kubota appear to have their engine DNA from the marine engine industry. The in-frame point is well made.

I was just talking to bobcat about a reman vs new kubota engine and he said they have an independent place that does the motors. It sounded like the same place does all the motors, so maybe they are doing better than how Ford does it. It was only 2k more for a brand new engine from kubota, so we went that route.

    To be fair to kubotu
Theyre a hell of a lot cheaper machine to start with
Cant really expect it to do similar hours as a John deere or case
In West Australia you can pick up a 4000hr 150hp kubota for around $20 25k
Cause that's about the stage you have to expect real expensive problems
6000hrs and you just park them in the tree line
If they improved everything to the point of matching deere then they'd be worth the same
Much the same question we posed to the new holland engineers during a European tour they sent us on
Why not fit drive lines more like earth moving gear so we can push more power and longer hrs, they said yea we can put a bulldozer drive line in a tractor but it'll cost 1.4 mil like a dozer
Of course it suits some people better to buy the cheaper tractor amd put 200hrs a year maintaining a small property or doing a small job
We have 20k ac but have a Chinese payloader that suits us fine because it does so few jobs we can't justify buying a cat or something thatll basically rot away before it wears out
You just gotta budget that into your business that you either output large capital for the top of the range gear or you buy the cheap stuff amd fully expect to replace it in the near future
Iv put a life span of 2000hrs on our Chinese loader I think itll do more but it would be daft of me to expect its going to do 20k hrs like a cat then can't afford to repare or replace it when it let's go early
All I can really say is dont listen to salesmen, do your own research on expected machine life, ask around and ring other dealers for trade in prices
If they're only buying or selling old machines real cheap then ask why

LMAO. I see on a daily basis the effect of multiple operators on one vehicle. I have over 600 000 kms (360 000 Miles) on my van (2017 ford transit). I have never opened the motor, repaired the transmission, I still have the Original spark plugs in it. My boss who I sub for has his own fleet and his vans (mercedes sprinters) are breaking down all the time. His drivers beat his equipment to death. They do heavy acceleration with a full load, I am sure they look for every pot hole on the road. Who ever is in charge of maintenance needs to do their job. Hell I change my oil like clock work. Every three weeks sun or shine. Vehicles will never stand up to multiple operators like they do to single self owned vehicles.

    @w056007568 3 роки тому

Whilst I agree with the points you have made about the large farm tractors from Kubota that they are not well designed at all I would say that exactly the reverse is true of their smaller engines which are used extensively elsewhere in industry (both agricultural and horticultural + landscaping [eg small 360s, etc)) where they have proved themselves highly reliable and efficient over the years. As I understand it nowadays they are about the most common engine running the compressors for reefer (refrigerated) trailers as an example.
The problems do seem to be much more of a serious issue in the larger engines such as tractors and some skid steers. One wonders if they have jumped into the larger engine / tractor market and at a lot lower price point than traditional brands much too quickly and without sufficient and adequate field testing making some/many? unreliable. One cannot believe that their trade in value would be great 5 - 10 years down the line!
